Like Saddam or Khaddafi. Did U know that there are many special Saddam watches? Often presented as gifts to Bath Party Members. Some American vets brought these home as souvenirs.
I agree Mass Murderer Rodrigo Duterte is a known watch lover, having visited the Jaeger Le Coultre store in Manila recently. And rumored to favor Panerais.
This is an outstanding piece of research into history's most infamous gangsters and their watches. Apparently, infamous gangsters had amazingly good taste in watches. Thank you for the insight, TGV.
Absolutely fascinating. When you can tie together mobster lore, some personality snippets, and top it off with horology I could watch this stuff all day. Thanks TGV.
Dear Urban Gentry, thank you for such generous effort in research and video production. You are reaching documentary level quality content in a youtube video production. Much appreciated, looking forward for much more to come.
One interesting exception is Tony Accardo, who headed the Chicago Outfit after Capone. He was the polar opposite of Capone; he spent almost no time in jail, never went to prison, and died at age 86 of natural causes. He wasn't flashy like Capone, so I think he wore an Elgin, or maybe a Hamilton.
The Bugsey watch is a Bulova "Knicerbocker". They were made in the mid to late 40s, 17j 8AH mvmnt. I have a 1947 manufactured Knickerbocker in my collection. The watch head was also paired with other bracelets and were known by other names. It has been seen as the Clinton and the Chief...both with different bracelets.
Bulova peak was in the 1960's when they sold millions of Accutron watches around the would, maybe you might remember "The World Runs On Bulova Time" ???
Man, I'm 21 years old and Everytime I watch a video of yours it just gets me more and more into them . My lady thinks it's the most boring thing lol. But it brings the most genuine smile when I put on a casio , timex or a bulova. Please keep it up.
all that ice kills the value though. my first rolex was a datejust that had been fitted with a diamond bezel, it dropped the value considerably. after buying it i had an original bezel installed and when i sold it i got 1000 more than i paid for it. my current watch and all time favorite is the rolex explorer in stainless steel.
An excellent Mini Documentary TGV! Absolutely fascinating to learn about what watches they wore. Gangsters...Like them or loathe them, they're part of history. Love to see some more documentaries.
Amazing video as always TGV I'm an American crime buff not to mention watch addict and huge fan and supporter of your channel I can't thank you enough for your insight and wisdom many thanks.
It's very interesting that of all the things a person possesses a timepiece can define you.the reasons behind the choice and what it says about your individuality. A personal choice that others judge you by.good work fella.
Top notch as always! Nasty rumor about Hugo's forthcoming Jurassic Gentry channel...keep your friends close and Hugo closer TGV... This needs a part 2 : ) Film Stars of the 30's / 40's / 50's, etc...TV Stars of same period, etc.
Haha, great idea! I love it, thank you. As for Hugo, he is far too lazy to start a channel, besides, I think he would consider it beneath him LOL Best regards, TGV
The picture for Capone's cell is actually his cell at Eastern State Penitentiary. In 1929 he was stopped in Philadelphia on his way back to Chicago and was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, He served 8 months of a one year sentence.
I’d have to say, Capone’s Rolex is the pic of the bunch for me. I’m not much of a dress watch type person, but that Prince was very alluring. I agree with GuitAural’s suggestion for you to maybe do a piece on Film Stars of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s era TGV. Exellent idea👌🏻.
Fantastic well researched video TGV! Gangsters can be a touchy subject for some, but history is full of uncomfortable subjects, doesn't mean people can't learn from them. Great video full of knowledge without "glorifying" the subject. 👍
You always surprise with new themes and doing a fine research. Never a dull moment with you. I do not flatter when I say. You are simply the best....just the truth.
TGV - The shot up car in the Dillinger segment is actually the car Bonnie and Clyde were shredded in. Not related to Dillenger at all, although the end result was very similar. This was a most interesting video!. More videos along these lines would be greatly appreciated.
Well spotted, it was indeed. You hit the nail on the head with what I was trying to show there via the bonnie and clyde car. Hopefully more soon, time permitting as always! Thank you :D Best regards, TGV
By far one of the best ! Thanks for putting this piece together. John Dillinger was one of my favorite gangsters. Of course, I grew up in N.W. Indiana where his celebrity was immeasurable.
This was an interesting a fun one. Can't really add to real gangsters, but fictional ones, I have to say Tony Montana's Omega La Magique from "Scarface" always stood out to me. It was the perfect watch for the character. An 80s luxury quartz watch. The design was innovative and unique and in some ways exotic for its time with its cold case and floating hands and transparent dial which you could see clear through the center of the watch. The unusual thing about it in the movie was it appears to have been worn upside down.. Or rather inside out (backside up, front down) for most, if not, all of the movie. Not sure why that was, but a cool and proper watch for the times for one of the greatest gangster movies of all time. This may be a topic for another video in the future, fictional gangster watches.
I approve of this video TGV! Interesting to see gangsters tastes when it comes to watches. My favourite has got to be Luciano’s Patek - it screams class and elegance and as you said it’s understated. A true gangster doesn’t have to be flash.
Please upload your pc wallpaper collection again! A few of us missed it and want it so badly. Big fan of your work and can’t call it a day without watching atleast one video or two from you, keep being great!
A fine and creative piece of videography on watches, I enjoyed it very much. Your videographic style is becoming nicely refined - it captures and keeps our attention through the word and the pictures you present. Job well done, keep up the good work - U&O!
The irony of TGV being Italian himself is entertaining me more than the fine taste of watches! How much did it help with research, may i ask with the utmost respect and humor?
Have been absolutely busy but Hugo is baaack hahaha I love it! Should do Q&A with him for examole you asking diameters and then Hugo giving the specs etc hahahah. This was an interesting angle. You should do more of these with different "important" and historical figures.
What an interesting and fascinating show this time about famous American Gangsters. Great topic! I learned so much and hadn't even realized that these crooks wore a watch, let alone luxury time piece. Plus, they had style. Also Hollywood built up a romanticized view of them. I have to say, being a Rolex fan, that Al Capone's watch was my favorite. Just classy. The precursor to the modern day Cellini collections. My second favourite was Bugsy's Bulova. Interesting how small, slim and elegant watch cases were in those days. And what is old, is new again.
Great video and history lesson! I must say the gold Bulova is by far my favorite, or the Patek Philippe...(heck they are all beautiful with the exception of Pablo’s Rolex).
I can't say a bad word about this episode, it was a pleasure to watch.
That's worth the Watch right there. No pun intended.
please do modern dictators' watches. I beg you TGV
Haha, great minds obviously, it is already in the works.
Hopefully in a few weeks.
Thank you sir!
Best regards,
TGV
Like Saddam or Khaddafi. Did U know that there are many special Saddam watches? Often presented as gifts to Bath Party Members. Some American vets brought these home as souvenirs.
Chili Prepper the king of Morocco too
I agree Mass Murderer Rodrigo Duterte is a known watch lover, having visited the Jaeger Le Coultre store in Manila recently. And rumored to favor Panerais.
Donald Trump would fit perfectly.
May I suggest a new series?
"Watches of Hollywood Golden Age". Timepieces worn by actors from 1920's to 1950's. :)
OMG, that is genius!!!!!
Grazie Luca,
Best regards,

Excellent idea! :)
What an amazing idea!
Great idea!
Here, here!
This is an outstanding piece of research into history's most infamous gangsters and their watches. Apparently, infamous gangsters had amazingly good taste in watches. Thank you for the insight, TGV.
It certainly seems so, thank you sir.
So glad you enjoyed this.

I would love a part 2 of this series. This was a joy to watch
Gangster commonalities : incarceration, untimely deaths and gold watches .. crime doesn’t pay kids - get an SKX
Haha, I love it!
Very well put, thank you KLC!
I hope you are well my friend,
Best regards,
TGV

Great "timing" mate, I JUST got my first one!
Live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse.
Crime doesn't pay? I beg to differ and one only has to look at every government around the world to see crime pays, handsomely too.
17:33 so you're telling me Pablo was the first person to "ice out" a watch? if so , that's dope! (no pun intended)
Based on his son's declarations. Pablo Escobar was a big fan of Cartier and Patek Phillipe
The Bugsey watch is a Bulova "Knicerbocker". They were made in the mid to late 40s, 17j 8AH mvmnt. I have a 1947 manufactured Knickerbocker in my collection. Hands-down the most fascinating video I've seen in months. Fantastic work as always.
I honestly love pablo escobar's "iced out" rolex day date even though I usually hate iced out watches.
all that ice kills the value though. my first rolex was a datejust that had been fitted with a diamond bezel, it dropped the value considerably. after buying it i had an original bezel installed and when i sold it i got 1000 more than i paid for it. my current watch and all time favorite is the rolex explorer in stainless steel.
Josh Dude We know we’re talking about the looks not the value
@@vrsce0178 people who actually own stuff like this tend to think about both. just part of being able to enjoy it fully :-)
Does "Iced out" mean diamonds encrusted to the watch?
@@Parocha yes
Great introduction. Rolex is the preferred brand for gangsters maybe not for Hugo. I'm sure he would wear a diamond encrusted Daniel Wellington.
LOL, thank you Roger, you are too funny!
Best regards,

I'm a history buff myself, so this video was very interesting for me. Great video.

Tony sopranos day date is the greatest monster watch 🙌🏻
Such a well done video. This is a familiar topic, but done from a unique perspective. Bravo!
What a cool topic. Would love to see more of it. These elegant styles, man. Thx, TGV!
HUGO the biggest gangster of them all, definitely stole my heart ! :))
Its becoming a norm for a pure class vlog by TGV... setting the bar higher with each vlog.. bravo.. 👏👏👏
Very good! I love the history and depth of information! These are part of the foundation cornerstones of your channel!
Expertly done and excellently entertaining. Way to go TGV!
You’re the best because of your amazingly well done documentary style episodes like this one!! Now F1 and MotoGP racer watches!
