The Dalai Lama is a lover of neat things. So, that Patek Philippe really suits him. Very expensive but a real appreciation of watchmaking craftsmanship.
His love of mechanical watches began very early: At the age of 6 or 7, the Dalai Lama received his first watch, from none other than the U.S. American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Rumours and assumptions grew around the watch itself and its reference, as the Dalai Lama’s headquarters in Dharamsala always rejected journalistic questions. It was known for a long time that it was a Patek Philippe pocket watch - but then in 2016, pictures appeared on the internet for the first time. They were posted on US Senator Patrick Leahy’s Facebook page, who is known by cameo appearances in some Batman films (including Batman & Robin, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight Rises). They show the watch presented by the Senator to Dalai Lama. Eric Wind identified the watch 2016 in a Hodinkee article as a pocket watch with Ref. 658, of which only 15 were made between 1937 and 1950, a truly special gift! But the watch is probably just as special as its story, which Thomas Laird tells in his book Tibet - The History of a Country: The Dalai Lama in Conversation with Thomas Laird. Roosevelt did not hand over the gift personally. Two agents of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the predecessor of today’s CIA, offered the watch along with a letter from the president. Brooke Dolan and his colleague Ilay Tolstoy, who was allegedly the grandson of the famous author Leo Tolstoy, strictly followed the protocol: visitors silently handed over their presents and received a so-called ‚katha‘, a prayer shawl traditionally handed over. The two had a mission to find out more about the possibility of building a road from India to China, which was strategically important to the United States for supplying China during the war with Japan. The German watch company A. Lange & Söhne makes one of the best watch’s in the world, Im debating on owning one since I been a Rolex guy my entire life
fascinating; very well done. I would have guessed that Putin would prefer something like a 24K gold Audemars Piguet (45 mm, or whatever the largest diameter they make); the ones that look like a gold hub cap strapped to your wrist. The production quality here is astonishingly high--pretty much equal to a segment on a regular TV show
Hi Teddy. What is your opinion on watches from Armani, Guess, Hugo? Why dont you do a video on them? Are these brands any good when it comes to watches?
How about videos about what kind of shirts to wear with what watches? Like what watch works best with polo shirts? What type of watch with an oxford button down shirt? What type of watch with a t-shirt? What type of watch with a dressier shirt with a tie? What type of watch with a sweater? You get the idea.
The best watch to wear when taking a shit. Yet another know nothing doing watch porn, there's a new one every day. Best watch to wear when jerking off to watch porn?
Great video!!! I did not expect this video(out the ones I've seen of yours) to be my favorite. I also did not expect to have Putin's watch be my favorite.. That A.Lange & Sohne is maybe the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. I was also plessanly surprised by find out that for 5+ years I wore the same $10 Casio as Pope Francis. I've even got some really meaningful compliments on that Casio.

Prince William only wears his Seamaster unlike his brother that alternates between his Explorer 2 and Breitling Aerospace (if I remember correctly). William has no known second watch other than that midsized Seamaster
During the time the UK was involved with the latest war in the middle east. They both wore the Explorer ll. One with the black face the other with the white dial.
*If you had to pick a first watch for your collection, what watch would you want to start it off with?* That's my current Dilemma XD. Right now sporting an MK and the occasional Cyma and Poljot that I got from my grandfather I guess those can be the ones that 'start' it off but I really want to get a legitimate watch to start off my collection. Got a fashion watch that dragged me down this rabbit hole now I want to develop this hobby. I even looked at a Seiko Presage today but I still need to save some money for that occasion...
I guess it depends on what kind of watch you're looking for? Most reviewers would recommend an Orient Bambino for their price point, movement and variety in dials or if you're sporty, you could splurge a little more to get yourself an SKX. A little further up on that price range, you could consider getting yourself a Hamilton Khaki if you're looking for something sporty or go the other route and get a Jazzmaster. Considering how they're owned by the same company that owns Omega, you're gonna get yourself a Swiss movement in one of those. Either that or you can go the route of getting your hands on a vintage Omega Geneve or the like. Those cost upwards of 500/600 USD if you're not getting them from guys like T&H/thosewatchguys who spend a tonne on marketing. While you are guaranteed a good servicing from them, you could head to watchuseek, eBay or the like if you're feeling adventurous and confident in your skills of identifying an authentic vintage. Sorry for the long message, but I faced the same dilemma a while ago, so I understand the pain. The key is to just get your hands on something and learn what you like. On a side note, a brilliant collection so far, courtesy of your grandfather. You're very lucky. Good luck on picking something!
I was into watches and bought a lot of them a few years back. Then I bought a used Armitron from a seller on ebay for under 20.00. It is quartz and is 100 meters water resistant. I wear it in the shower and no problems. The time is incredible for the price. I bought another one since the first one was used and the light didn't work. I synced the watches around 6 months ago and they are around 2 seconds off now. That is incredible accuracy for under 20.00. Spend your money for expensive watches if you want to. 20.00 will buy you a watch no Rolex will keep better time than so that it matters! Armitron Pro Sport...MD11237(R)40/8252.

The two had a mission to find out more about the possibility of building a road from India to China, which was strategically important to the United States for supplying China during the war with Japan.

I feel like a more accurate title would be, "Think You Have a Nice Watch? You Don't"
Do one about historical figures!
Thanks for this video. I will now do some research on the A Lange & Sohne and Vacheron Constantin Geneve. I have never heard of these brands before.
Been watching your videos for awhile, but just now subscribed cause of the fresh breath unbiased 🙂
Would love to see a video on musicians watches
The German watch company A. Lange & Söhne makes one of the best watch’s in the world, Im debating on owning one since I been a Rolex guy my entire life
Nobody gives a fuck.
fascinating; very well done.
Still "Casio F91W" is the most valuable watch for me. 💚 Nothing can be comparable with this. 🥰
Thank you for just reviewing the watches and not the people wearing it, your a true professional Teddy just like Roosevelt.
P.S Teddy R was a great man and a elegantly true badass, a great name to have
I would love to see a video dedicated to the watches of jazz musicians or musicians in general
G'day Teddy from Australia!
Great Channel!
Cool list. Thank you Teddy :)
From a quick glance I can honestly say I'm proud of this comment section. Bravo.
Another classic video. Teddy you really do some awesome videos you think of things no one else is thinking. That’s creativity an that is really hard to find in the vlog word. So I’m just thankful for all the hard work you do!
Realy nice video. Thanks
Thank you for this video. I learn a lot, new brands, new watches . ou video are professionnal quality and addictive.
Watches of prominent CEOs.
I believe Bill Gates wears a Casio Duro.
Love the Pope's $10 dollar watch. That is my favorite one.
Pope just needs to know time when to pray, and Casio shows time even better than Rolex, Movado, or Patek Philippe. Simple as that. True luxury is in simplicity.
@@tongotongo3143 I wore Casio in Spain in 1981.
Prince William only wears his Seamaster unlike his brother that alternates between his Explorer 2 and Breitling Aerospace (if I remember correctly). William has no known second watch other than that midsized Seamaster
That is quite charming to think of and also quite sad. A part of his loving lost mother always with him.
During the time the UK was involved with the latest war in the middle east. They both wore the Explorer ll. One with the black face the other with the white dial.
Hi Teddy, have you done reviewes on Shinola watches..
Am using a Casio MQ 24 7B since 2016 got it on an offer for 7€. Never knew that Pope also uses the same.
RIP wearers of the Movado Museum watch.
Actually i would love to buy one, knowing he wears one give it more class
Tbh that makes it even more of a "statement" watch.
Hey Teddy, how about sports figures. More specifically boxers (Mike Tyson!!!) I really don't know if he just bought customs!
Agree I am sure athletes and entertainers have some nice watches.
Favorite in the group? The Pope's casio obviously. It's the only one I can afford...
The Seamaster shouln't be too expensive either. Putin's Lange and the Dalai Lama's Patek are unreachable, of course.
What is the brand that made that button-down shirt that Teddy is wearing?
GREAT WORK Teddy! The Vacheron was the best.
Scoffing at the Casio at its modest $10 price point says everything about you Teddy.
Daniel Svensson you judging a man’s entire character by his mild and brief reaction to the Pope’s watch says something about you too.

No.
Teddy, do a review about Japanese brands specifically citizen, I would really appreciate that.
Tomasz0216 Find a good deal on a Grand Seiko, then retire from watch collecting, lol😁
Save up some more and buy a used Breitling Chronomat. They are relatively cheap now and U can use them daily ...
Great video!!! Congratulation Teddy!!! Thanks! Viktor from Hungary.
Great content. Thank you 🙏
Recommendation: Watches of famous artists (painters, musicians, architects and so on)
I was into watches and bought a lot of them a few years back.
I got a casio calculator watch

Great Video and information...
love this channel
And the use of capitals and proper punctuation is deemed supervacaneous in YT comments... Sad.
