Omg I was searching all over the web for this fruit salad!!! I had this in Malaysia 2 months ago, but sadly I didn't know the name of it, because the waitress just gave it to me as a side dish and it was indeed delicious :) thank you so much, I'm a happy girl now!
I want to tell you how much I appreciate your show and the way you present it. I live in the USA and my roots are from Singapore. I don't have all the ingredients all the time and have to be creative with what is at hand. Thank you and God bless.
Augustine Liew I understand what you mean because I too live overseas. Fortunately, I can get almost everything here :) Otherwise, getting creative is definitely needed when living overseas. Hehe
This is my favorite. I tasted it first in malaysia and love it so much. My favorite is guava. Oo. .crunchy spicy abit and sweet.love it. Thank u for making this receipe.
my mother used cili padi and pounded them using mortar and pestle with some sugar, and then the soy sauce.. i've also seen a quite different rojak buah..they put in sliced calamansi and bunga kantan.. i dont know what it tastes like but its different
Thanks so much for this recipe. Now I know how to make the petis. I love your videos. Keep up the great work!! Btw, I'm from Melaka now living in Los Angeles. :)
Not sure if I like this kind of sauce with fruit, but I've been thinking about fruit salad and "heat" and I think that goes very well together. Heat as a spice to me is something neutral, neither sweet nor savory. So it ought to go well in either dish. I may try this recipe or a variation of it anyway.
Very nice. .can we use regular soy sauce??what we have here is either dark/light soy sauce. .i generally use dark, until a recipe specifies light variery.which sauce can i use here??
Hi... i'm from Indonesia. Do you think that belacan is same like terasi? Because in Indonesia we call "terasi" which made of shrimp. We usually use that if we want to make sambal or rujak. We can also use another fruits for rujak like mango and jamboo. And we can only get "petis" in Indonesia. It comes from east Java. But anyway, it sounds good taste !!!
What a wonderful play on flavors! I love the whole sweet/salty/spicy combo :) Just wondering, what's the difference between the balanchan and the shrimp paste? (is it just that one is sweet and one is salty? I'm aware that they're both shrimp based but that's it..)
Emaline L. Belacan is the one that comes in blocks while petis is in a semi liquid form and it is sweet. I would say that belacan has a more pungent and woody smell.
+Koulu Koti I bought this in Europe too. Try indian stores, they might have them. The closes would be adding different type of shrimp paste into the sauce.

Eh Grace! I dunno what it's like across the Causeway but in Singapore, rojak is very unhealthy! Especially since we add Yu Za Kueh!
what is yu za kueh?
***** Deep fried breasticks I guess? It's like a donut, but Chinese, straight and crispier.
Yamibakeru Haha...everything delicious is unhealthy :P
Yamibakeru Is it cakoi aka patongko aka chinese crullers?
Rujak sambal petis is from indonesia not from malaysia
