OMG thank you. I grew up in Singapore, moved back to Australia, now living in America, Nyonya cooking is my absolute favorite. This channel is a gem. I'm looking through your video library and, theres nothing but dishes i use to eat as a kid and miss soo much. Have you ever made Char tow kway/carrot cake?
Thanks ... I have crispy fried the vegetables in with some panko crumbs then put it in the spice mix. Taste fantastic! Just leave the vegetables in the mix for 15-20 mins then have it with steam rice. Obviously my take is not authentic but taste great!
Hi Grace, I love your 'Acar Awak' video. I had given up eating Malaysia/ Singapore food after moving to the USA many years ago till the era of youtube 'how to videos'. I love your simple explanation and colorful presentation.
Augustine Liew Thank you! I know what you mean. It is not easy to look for Malaysian food in Germany too. There are a few really good restaurants but home cooked food still the best
Your food always looks SO delicious! A local restaurant makes a couple of dishes I would love to see you recreate if possible….the first is a spicy eggplant in a thick spicy sauce, and the other is a stir fried mixture of eggplant, beans, tomatoes, okra in a belacan sauce! Keep up the good work, love your videos!
Not only you are very good at cooking, the Achar really looks delicious, I am also very impressed by your presentation. You have great personality and very genuine natural beauty. I ❤to get to know u. If u coming to Singapore I would love to host you. 🎉🎉

Thanks so much for this recipe. I grew up eating it from my nyonya aunt's kitchen. After watching your presentation a few weeks back I immediately went out the next day and bought all the ingredients. Had myself a great appetizer for several days. Terima kaseh. I tried posting my acar photos here but couldn't make it to work. Any suggestion?
chilipadi2306 Yay!! Glad you made it and enjoyed it even. You can't post photos on youtube unfortunately. Try to send it to me through facebook? ;) I'd love to see it!

Hi pretty , my boyfriend loves acar and I'm learning to cook it. Thanks for sharing ! But I don't have a oven at home, can you please advise me how long do I have to leave it under the sun to dry it ? Will appreciate it if you can reply me asap ! My boyfriend will be happy to see his favorite dish on the table !! Thanks in advanced :)
hello i always try to cook youe recipe its come out good but my madam want me to try cook bukhala chichen.which i dont know hope u can show how to make its thanks.
hi. I so wanna try this. But i have 3 questions. 1. Can I use tumeric powder instead? If so, how much should I use? 2. what is the temperature of the oven? I didnt quite get it. 3. If I want to add pineapples as you suggested, at which point should I add them? Thanks :)
+Vlum88 Yes you can, I would only use 1/2 a teaspoon of tumeric powder. Temperature of the oven was set at 50 Celsius while the pineapples can be added along with the vegetables to dry in the oven. Good luck!
Hey Gab, I would prepare a week in advanced. You can keep it longer than a month if it is sealed tightly in the refrigerator, scooped using a clean spoon, etc. Anyway, just like how you would check other any refrigerated food, take a look in the bottle before enjoying them - incase of any spots of fungus.
Many years ago, I tried to cook belachan with my spicy veggie in midwest USA , my neighbors thought there was a dead animal around , So I stop using it since Can I try making this dish without belachan ? Will the whole dish be different ? Thx

if adding pinapples, do i need to dry it too?
Hi Grace, when Do you use the lemongrass?
jeslene yap Sorry I didn't show it in the video but the lemongrass was blended with the chilies :)
but why do you dry the vegetables since you are going to coat it with the paste later on?
Sufri Hadi to minimize the mousture in the sauce as it may dilute ur sauce and make it less crunchy
She put in the oven for crunchiness
Can i know how long do u put it inside the oven and what is the temperture?
anne ong 50 celcius for 15-20 minutes :)
Yum, I can't wait to try, Thanks.

Can I try making this dish without belachan ? Will the whole dish be different ? Thx
Sook Wilson of course it will be different but try substituting with some shrimp sauce (similar to fish sauce). I think that would help!
