4:044:26 The Sunda Kelapa Port area was the old port of Jakarta before independence when it was colonized by the Dutch, now more activities have moved to the Tanjung Priok Port area. This area is often flooded because it's often affected by coastal tidal flooding. 12:0512:3323:13 Many people in Indonesia continue to smoke due to a combination of cultural acceptance and psychological factors like stress relief and social belonging. The act of smoking is often perceived as a coping mechanism for stress or as a social ritual and gatherings, serving as a form of social glue. For instance, offering a cigarette is considered a gesture of friendship and hospitality, which can make it a prioritized expense even over basic necessities like rice and eggs. 26:03 Many people in Indonesia frequently smile, greet, and wave to foreign tourists as a reflection of their deeply ingrained cultural values of hospitality and warmth. This behavior is rooted in the hereditary culture of Indonesia, which places a strong emphasis on "gotong royong," (mutual cooperation) a Indonesia term for communal cooperation and social harmony, leading to a desire to make visitors feel welcome.
- Cigarette's price in Indonesia also plays a major role as to why many Indonesian people are constantly being tempted to smoke, being so affordable (especially it's widely available for purchase as little as per piece by street vendors). Sadly for the same reason, under age adolescents are often seen smoking during or outside school as well. - Despite being under "attack" on your very last bill, and yet still being very generous. You have a heart of gold, Ken. Good Karma will come to you.

The best way to know and understand a country for a tourist/foreigner is by going to the not so touristic place or non tourist place at all. It takes skill to be able to get close to the locals and be accepted as a special guest and not as strangers, this way one will be able to experience the true life of the people (country). This is how the chinese survive living in Indonesia or other country.. they have this specific skills to "adapt" to the new/foreign place they visited.. and eventually have no difficulties surviving in the future.

Hi Ken, thank you very much for this authentic vlog. In 1991 i had been to Jakarta and went into the slums, which had only wooden huts and looked poorer as the area, where you have been. But it might be possible, that over 30 years they exchanged the wooden huts to the simole buildings, that you showed. It could be the same area, because i was also nbear the port as i remember. But 2 years later i had been to Calcutta (nowadays Kolkata), where even in the citycenter is was more difficult to cope with. Even 10 years later Calcutta was a lot better, and this is around 20 years ago.
I really enjoy seeing you wandering around the local areas. You are so kind to the people you meet along the way, and the little children. I think you are brave also climbing around on ladders and boats! A really interesting vlog. Thanks so much.
There are uneducated and uncivilized people like that everywhere in the world. I applaud Ken for taking that risk and going to non-touristy places. The good experiences outweighs the bad.

We have been last year also in this area, close by is a bigger slum area. Our big learning: Even though the people there have almost nothing, they spread happiness🙏 🇮🇩
the fact is that 40% (112 million) Indonesian are poor and midle income (world bank report 2017) the rest 60% (168 million) are high income, look like its twice germany population (84 million on 2022). Indonesia is not bad at all, its in the right track to become wealthy country.

8:00 The man tried to say that they would take the cement to Riau, one of the provinces on the island of Sumatra, not Rio de Janeiro Brazil which is what you mean. 29:40 Be careful if you start giving small money to people without a good reason, because it's not educational, and later if there are other foreign guests they think everyone can be asked for money, and this will make our culture of politeness disappear because we misjudge the kindness of guests and money. can change a person's character from good to evil.
I like to look on Google maps to track your journeys...that is a HUGE distance from Jakarta to Brazil! Wow. But I need to quit stopping the video every few minutes to comment, I have much more to go.

Dia udah dateng ke SCBD Dan kayaknya ya biasa aja orang di negaranya banyak tempat yg sama "maju" nya, jadi dengan Dia datang ke Getho nya Jakarta Dia bener bener nyari pengalaman ngerasain semua sisi realitas Jakarta Dari area Maju nya sampai area kumuh dengan orang orang nya. Wkwkw
nice one ken . i really enjoy watching this kind of raw and long vlog not too many cuts .. keep up the good work ken ,
Happy to hear that, thanks 🙏
That was very generous of you to treat all the kids and some of the locals. They all look thrilled to see you.
Sangat membanggakan mental orang indonesia yg katanya ingin maju itu dihadapan bule 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
ya liat wilayahnya jg bule dateng ke pemukiman kumuh lo mau ngarepin masyarakat yg kaya gmn wkwkwk di semua negara jg gitu bro jangan mengeneralisasikan semua orang Indonesia sdm rendah
I really liked this video. You should do both some tourist places and also such places where we actually experience life.
I'm enjoying all of your videos, love seeing all the local areas and how friendly you are with all the local people
Apologize fot that rude bro, may be that's kid didn't has brain..
but I like the way you responded, stay save dudes👍
Hello and good evening, Ken and everyone. Yeah, it's always interesting to tag along again, to go beyond the typical tourist spots. "Jom, jom" let's explore, Ken 😂😅😄
Jom jalan jalan 🙏😄
@@KenAbroadNext destination Ken , hopefully it will be Yogyakarta the Special Region of Indonesia, full of Cultural Event there and also Bandung that known Paris van Java in Indonesia, visit the Braga Street and try the street food there 👍👍🤩🤩
The Last but not least, my homeland : West Sumatera Indonesia... 😍😍❤️
Cant hardly wait for your next Vlog in Indonesia, Ken ❤ 🙏🤩
Be carefulll my friend walking on the loading boat, safety first, that guy mean Riau not Rio in Brazil 😂😂 Riau its not far from Batam once you were cross from Malaysia before
wow.thank you for the most epic experience shared by you Ken. stay positive, stay healthy
Good you show this. 👍👍This is the REAL indonesia!! And not only the beautiful cottage and resorts like in Bali.
Nice work. I visited Sunda Kelapa about ten years ago and the dock workers were baffled by my picture taking. I did not go as far as you did but wish I had. Thanks for venturing beyond the malls and traffic of Jakarta!
Wow, you are very brave, even though I am Indonesian, I don't dare to go to that area
Weren't you born n brought up in that neighborhood? As if...
@@atoknasir8466 I have reasons, things that make me traumatized, because I am Chindo
YOUR FELLOW INDONESIANS ACT LIKE UNCIVILIZED MONKEYS AND ARE RUDE TO TOURISTS, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! 🥊😤🔥 PWEH! 🥊😤🔥
GAGAS 💙💜💙💜🩷🍼🐷🇯🇵🇨🇦🍓
Thank you for showing someplace never been shown in indonesia , keep on these content. Thanks Bro
Great vid! Was there just before you, the dockworkers & local people were wonderful, loved it!
Love your video ken great content, its great you help locals.
22:58 So rude, he think he is funny or cool showing finger like that but actually showed how uneducated he is, somebody should give him a lesson
We're very sorry for this Ken 🙏🥺
memalukan, semoga bukan gambaran sebagian besar rakyat Indonesia
Gayanya angkuh, sok cool tapi salah target, teasing ngomong ganja" tar ditonton polisi diciduk baru tau tuh bocil kumisan.. 😮💨
26:53 miskin sampai tahap kena mengemis dan minta bule belikan tauhu..hahahaha
lu ga diajak blog... urus aja negaramu sendiri, komentar ini hanya buat internal kami, kamu ga ada bedanya dengan dia yg kamu bilang mengemis, kamu mengemis perhatian di negara orang@@brandenlowmalaysia28low62
Well, what do you expect from people with a mentality of a 🦍🤷♂
Jakarta actually is..DHAKA of asean..the situation is similiar like dhaka in bangladesh..with dirty streets so many slum house are around jakarta no clean water no electric city with the most dirty river everywhere in Jakarta..and most people's live in jakarta they lack of knowledge of cleanliness and their 3rd class mentality is to bad..
24:13 im Indonesian and alot of time have encountered this type of people ,He was ask you money to buy him a cigarette and yes the better things to do is leave that area, that of dude is ready to harass you more😅, be carefull. If you want experience the welcoming well manner local go to village in country side or if in the city just go to more educated area in that city. Enjoy Indonesia
🙏
@@knock-knockwhosthere9933 i don't know tho, but if you Indonesian you will know alot of uneducated Indonesian think that white westerner are rich so they expect them to spend and give them money, and here we see the working man basically ask money probably to buy some cigarettes and coffee for the crue since the white man are roaming around to their boat. The best I can say don't go to area that not design for tourism, this man seems really like underdeveloped and kind of dangerous area in Indonesia and if so then you get what you want, you get the real world. Hes lucky not get robbed
Enjoy your trip my friend, i like your video, you are the good person , You are a very extraordinary person 👍👍👍😊
Jangan terlalu lama di jakarta ya...nanti semakin banyak video kumuh nya..hahaha
Luv these kind of vids! This is the real deal and not the touristic places
That road through the local village looked absolutely stunning
Ken, always look forward to your videos, unlike other YTB's, your videos have less special affects and music just love that about your videos very informative and entertaining.
I ❤️ your generosity towards 🇮🇩 people, kids & street vendors. I bet only in 🇮🇩 you find locals called you “bule” or greet you with “hi Mister” and then asked for a selfie 😅
what is means for Indonesians Blue as word?
@@AshrafMasaa bule is Indonesian called for foreigners (Caucasian) it’s not an offensive word it’s just greetings to the non local to say hi
@@camps5938 I lived there in bandung almost two months no one asked me to have selfie because im arabian from North africa? or indonesian like blue eyes people that is why called blue?
@@AshrafMasaa yup that’s for Caucasian only, I think taking the selfie because Ken did video for the TH-cam but if you go to rural areas, many locals will ask for a pic coz not many tourists visiting. I hope you enjoyed the stay in Bandung and able to visit other parts of 🇮🇩
@@AshrafMasaais not Blue for color but bule
hello Ken, I always binge watch your videos when I'm in Indonesia, I really like it, look for friends here and can accompany you or tell you more about what's in Indonesia
Really appreciate your kindness to the Indonesian. They are not very rich and really appreciated your generosity. GOD bless you Mister. 😊
Good job, Ken!
You are a kind and gentle person. Blessings on your journey!
Thank you 😊
Health and Safety is what stops people getting near wharves in the western world. Good content by the way.
I like to look on Google maps to track your journeys...that is a HUGE distance from Jakarta to Brazil! Wow. But I need to quit stopping the video every few minutes to comment, I have much more to go.

Totally apreciate your content. Very very good.
Bagus bang vlok nya biar pemerintah cepat merapikan tata kota dan mereno pasi daerahkumuhnya, siapa tau pemimpin kota/kecamatan/ desanya. Bergegas menata kebersihan lingkunganya..

This video is such a refreshing take on travel! It's great to see the local side of Jakarta rather than the usual tourist spots. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned from the locals so far?
Fun video from beautiful country of Indonesia although truth be told my migraine ain't improving after watching

Hi Ken, I love watching your travel videos. I am originally Indonesian who have lived in US, Singapore and currently live in Canada, and I love travelling too. However, your travelling video kind of style really interested me, especially one of your Singapore video as my family and I will go back to Singapore on 26 April, I hope you are still around south east Asia as I really want to meet you in person and hang around in Singapore, there are many more interesting places in Singapore.
