  • WITH: DR ERIC GARLAND IN CONVERSATION WITH FRANK LIDDY OF MINDFULNESS BELFAST.
“Dr. Garland is arguably the world’s leading expert on the use of mind-body therapies to address opioid misuse and addiction among people with chronic pain. In 2020, Dr. Garland completed the largest randomized controlled trial of MORE to date and found that this innovative treatment reduced opioid misuse by 45% nine months after the completion of the treatment-demonstrating the efficacy of the intervention. Few if any other interventions have shown such clinically significant decreases in opioid misuse among people with chronic pain. To meet this void, Dr. Garland has developed an effective treatment for two of the most prevalent and pernicious public health crises of the modern age. In view of these contributions, Dr. Garland’s impact on the field has been highly significant.” - University of Utah Distinguished Professor Award

great video, i almost worked in his lab. ok, be mindful, reappraise pain, and notice the positive of life. Addiction cycle is strengthened by the pleasure of the substance/behavior and its alleviation from underlying pain. build appreciation for normal, healhty pleasures.

I love the ideas in this conversation.💫 In particular that hating our destructive habit - did not work a in overcoming it❤‍🩹 - It seems to me👁‍🗨 that this MORE therapy focuses on 'training and strengthening the mind' -and I am sure that by allowing ourselves to accept and address some 'automatic unhelpful habits of thinking and behaving - and replacing them with sufficiently 'powerful, pleasurable and positive substitutes >>>we can recover and transform our losses💝 (Bill W talks about this in Step 11 (page 84 of the Big Book : encouraging conscious contact through the act of meditation - which somehow I equate with falling in love with awe (or savouring experiences in a trance state) 💎🐛🦋
