Mid 1980s Honda 10hp long shaft 4-stroke

If 4 strokes we around in the 80s why were they not popular? Being carby, did they chug lots of fuel still? Were 2 strokes just lighter and faster so more popular?

These were, and still are, great engines. Great on power & fuel. But yeah, 2-strokes are lighter, faster, cheaper/easier to maintain/up-keep.
