When they play the phone calls between Maya and her mom, you could tell that this woman was putting on fake smiles. Maya even described how she would be rolling her eyes and acting like a toddler when Maia would talk to her mother. This woman is unhinged, and the damage that she caused is irreparable. The hospital just needs to write the check.

When you privatize certain industries there is a conflict of interest imo. In order for companies that privatize social work or insurance to make money, someone has to suffer. They could t make any money providing the top standard to everyone, basic insurance principles will show you that the many pay for the few. if you then try squeeze more and more profit out in that mix to be beholden to investors, it gets ugly

I believe every citizen is entitled to free health care @ any hospital across the United States including any tests, procedures, consult with a specialist or needed surgeries & admission to hospital if needed. People who need medications for themselves or their children should never go without bc of money. They could set up a program that looks @ one's yearly income & charge a fee that they can afford that goes back into the program. Private hospitals can bill insurance companies $5.00 or $15.00 for a band-aid which makes obtaining descent coverage impossible to many! If Governments used tax dollars to sustain hospitals it's a winning situation for everyone even private insurance companies that offer employees pay into @ some jobs. The hospital and the social worker needs to be punished financially big time. No small settlement will deter this hospital, you need to hurt them in the pocket book so they never to this to another child again. Imagine Maya in the hospital for 87 long days with no adult helping her. Ketamine is FDA approved as safe for treatment in children but often times used "off lable" for difficult to treat or rare diseases such as CRPS.
The hospital is acting like it not being FDA approved for a particular diognosis means that the medications are unreasonable or unsafe. This is not the case at all. I work in a hospital and I rarely see a day go by without seeing several doctors prescribe or recommended "off lable use" of medications.
Getting FDA approval is very expensive and time consuming. The FDA is often more concerned about studying new medical interventions and from what I understand they often will not deligate funds or precious time to studying previously approved medications because they have already proven the safety profile for those medications.
I see Mya was prescribed Gabapentin at John Hopkins hospital for pain This is an anti-seizure medication used off lable for pain. Just because it is not FDA approved for a specific modality doesn't mean its unsafe or not recommended.
In fact,John Hopkins actually prescribed Gabapentin for her pain this is an older antiepileptic drug used "off lable"for pain. So that tosses the "not FDA approved" argument out the window because they infact were prescribing and administering medications that were not specifically FDA approved for pain control.

Cathi Bedi is hiding behind the Florida statute. Stop saying she had orders she had to follow. We all know there would be NO orders or DCF involved had she known about CRPS, believed Maya, and not let her ego get in the way. DCF needs to also be held accountable and investigated, regardless if they are a state agency. They should not be untouchable!! Furthermore, Maya WAS INDEED diagnosed with CRPS in the 🇺🇸 prior to entering Johns Hopkins and Beata was not asking for the same treatment that was done in Mexico, just the same medication. Stop conflating things! This is why WE need to watch trials ON OUR OWN and not listen to the media - "mark 1 eyeball." Even Court TV can't get the story correct! The actions of JHACH are reprehensible. Cathi Bedi should've never been in the position she was in and did not have proper training to make complex medical/ clinical decisions. Furthermore, I was Dx'd w/ CRPS after an ankle fracture and surgery 10 yrs ago. I only have it in one limb. I can't imagine having full body CRPS, esp as a child. Maya had many of the diagnostic criteria for CRPS (as Dr. Chopra said) and this disease IS actually VISIBLE. Most pain you can't see. You can see many signs and symptoms of CRPS (dystonia, discoloration, swelling, sweating on affected areas, muscle spasms, lesions). Above and beyond the excruciating pain & allodynia she was experiencing, there was ample proof that she was suffering from CRPS!! It's a shame the family had to go thru hoops to get the hospital to believe them. Instead, they accuse them of child abuse? Deplorable! Johns Hopkins abused Maya, and they are at fault in so many ways. I hope and pray this never happens again. Shame on this despicable hospital & the evil, unprofessional, disgusting people involved.

Also, to their credit, unaware of how to treat, uncomfortable with ketamine treatments, BUT we can do (ACHJH fills in blank). For me, this scenario did not warrant CPS being called.
The only reason I would have called CPS/DCFS is if Mom/Dad has a sick child and decides if the hospital isn’t going to treat my child the way I want them to then I’m leaving with my still sick child. *insert Call CPS*

The fact is, they didn’t believe Maya, they thought she wasn’t in pain and the only time she complained was when she spoke to the mother and others. Hence why this social worker kept recommending to limit contact and take the child away.
And what was her qualifications in crps to determine if Maya was lying or doing better in their care and the mother was making it worse? 0
Cathi Bedi was wrong. The Dr’s were wrong. And they can’t blame DCF or the court orders because they’re the ones who kept advocating and recommending to keep this child away from the family, just because they didn’t agree with her other Dr’s treatment with Ketamine. Which caused irreparable harm.
They had no right to force their treatment on her and not release the child to her primary Dr’s and family’s care.
They had no right to listen in on phone calls.
And Cathi Bedy certainly had no right to sit this child on her lap and touch her. How inappropriate and disgusting! Then to blame a child because she ‘asked for it’ Gross.

Exactly. And who wants to vent about pain to someone who believes you’re faking it and thinks you’re a liar?
Or who, after one wrong move, has the power to take away what little control of your life you have left and takes every and any opportunity to do so?
My theory is that the reason Maya was trying to go out of her room for (supposedly) 95% of the time according to Cathy Bedi is bc she was trying to get the f away from the ab*sive employees and avoid more physical a*saults.
Cathy claims “this level of activity isn’t typical of patients with CRPS.”
      1. No two people with the same conditions are alike and

The hospital admitted they were not familiar with the disease and subsequently, not familiar with the treatment, symptoms or anything else relating to her condition and therefore, making an assumption of abuse absolutely cannot be determined!!! Neighbors and family members of the Franke family reported to child services yet all the children remained in the home like countless other ACTUAL abused children. Broken system that needs amending. This didn’t only happen to Maya. Lives were horrifically affected by false allegations and imprisonment to so many families because of these same people. I did not think the video substantiated any abuse. I contacted my mental health attorney to see if I needed to make a report to DCF because I was hesitant to do so since I didn’t see any abuse being reflected. He told me that I did not have a choice. Once we are advised that there is some form of abuse, we must make a report to DCF in order to protect our license. I always said their marriage was in trouble before they kept Maya from her mother. It's not unheard of when a child has a prolonged illness. It does takes a toll on a marriage & other siblings too. This isn't anyone's fault it's the stress of dealing with this. Maya's Mother wanted the hospital to treat Maya's condition that was not diagnosed by them yet. The hospital can't take the word of a doctor from Mexico that couldn't practice in the 🇺🇸 without going through Medical School in the 🇺🇸. They did eventually find her complex condition & treated her. The FDA hasn't approved use of this drug in hospitals yet. I think the problem started was with Maya's Mother's choice of words telling a doctor that if they don't give her this treatment she'll bring Maya to a hospice to be treated until she dies. That set up a lot of red flags yet the hospital treated Maya with ketamin. This is a complex disease that deals with depression, stress pain & anxiety. This social worker suggested this diagnosis to what she perceived Maya's Mother to have. There was a lot of mistrust after that how Maya treated anyone she perceived was against her or her mother. This Social Worker was the antagonist that they should be suing if anyone not the hospital. Doctors & Nurses aren't perfect but they have to put the needs of the patient first & trust the social workers are giving them correct information. They had been to many hospitals to which they didn't have answers. John Hopkins did their best with the knowledge they had @ the time. They also have protocols they have to follow when administering potent narcotics especially to a child. You can't blame them for Maya's Mother's suicide the woman was burnt out & her marriage was failing. It's a horrible story that everyone can learn from including hospitals. Miss Beaty & Maya's Mother seemed to be what this case is really about not the hospital. Ontario, 🇨🇦

Do you know what os the first thing that any hospital shpuld know when a patient comes in? Patient's medical history. So its normal that she
was telling the hospital about that. For example. If you have an illnes where you can'y t find any remedies in the cpuntry wouldn't you go to another country that has that remedy for you? Any mother would risk everything to make her child free from illness.

I don't see how after 3 months of not physically seeing Maya but could talk to her by face time that the hospital is solely responsible for her Mother's suicide. I know she was depressed & stressed dealing with Maya's illness & her marriage falling apart a son that came second bc of Maya's illness. Maya's counseller stated that her Mother was stressed bc of her daughters illness & her marriage was suffering due to a lack of communication that was taking a toll on her marriage & the ketamin coma Maya suffered when getting high doses of ketamin in Mexico. The Attorney had to drag the information out Maya's conseller only bc he had some of her notes other than that the counseller would say I don't recall! Her Mother was upset having the hospital state on Maya's chart that she had Munchhousen by proxy & not willing to sign the form to have her transferred. She could have proven that later in Court. It's the job of any hospital to rule out everything especially with this complex case that isn't well known. Maya's condition would vary @ times just like now when something stressful is going on in her life she has flare ups. No one case is the same in each person which makes it hard to diagnose. Everything has to be ruled in or out & Maya's Mother had a huge influence on how Maya acted towards nurses & doctors bc the trust was lost between the Mother & the hospital.Maya picked up on that & I'm sure the tention in their house. It's a very complex case but Doctors & Nurses did their best & I doubt every nurse was mean to Maya you'd see her smiling in the videos. Theirs a lot of hurt & finger pointing but she was diagnosed & was given the ketamin a long with counselling.
so she wouldn't sign the papers that they needed to transfer her. As a Mother I would have signed it & fought it later in Court. Suing for $400 hundred million dollars is insane to me & it will have dire consequences if it's awarded. Many Attorney's & physiatrists watching say Maya's case was so complex & if a social worker sees or hears something concerning its mandatory they call Child Seervices. Maya's Attorneys are bringing up testimony that wasn't allowed to be used & once heard by Jurors they can't unhear it. I guess they want to win for the money they would make. Ontario, 🇨🇦

I think the mother killed herself to free her daughter from the suspicion that her illness was her mother's fault. So sorry for Maya and her family. I hope they win this case. Social worker was horrible, horrible, horrible. Unforgivable behavior. Sadistic and mean to Maya.

Mother wasn't getting the constant attention she craved, so she suicided. Kind of fits with a MBP diagnosis.

As someone who also hasn’t chronic pain, I understand why.
She was also Polish and their culture is much more direct and say-it-how-it-is than it is here.
Sadly, I have learned how to be a certain way around medical professionals because it’s the only way to get them to listen to and believe me and so would never do what she did in the beginning with giving all the details to many people for the exact reason that after experience, I now foresee it resulting in dismissal and ab*se.
But at the same time what choice did she really have. Heartbreaking. 💔
