We show you how to remove your old dirt bike chain, cut a new chain to a custom size, and install your chain with the proper tension on a KTM 500 EXC-F or similar motorcycle.
Many people show you how to saw off the old chain using a cutting wheel or simple hack saw. That's fine for removing a chain, but it's not going to work if you want to change the length of a chain. For example, on this bike, I have lowered the gearing to 13/52 and the larger rear sprocket meant the stock chain was too short.
To fix this, I need to buy a full length 120 link chain and cut it down to 118 links so it fits properly. Cutting down a chain you're planning to actually use requires a special tool.
