Great video, thanks. As a senior golfer, this will be useful as I move into off-season. Well done.

I did your exercises before my round today and had the best round I had in a long time. My shoulders were loosy goose and swings felt almost effortless. I recommend doing this for all you other senior golfers out there.

Want to really thank you for this @MrShortGame (first I ever heard of you). Just turned 65. Fortunate enough to still be fully healthy. None of the torn this, strained that, or any artificial parts, etc., etc. Still a single cap. But am definitely getting older. Can feel it every day in a hundred different subtle ways - I'm on the downhill side of the hill. I just am, and there's nothing that can be done about it. But I can try to maintain health and flexibility as long as possible.
Started doing yoga over a decade ago. Extremely helpful. Not a fanatic, but I do a little bit every day. Weird, I can't exactly point to anything dramatic that it does (e.g., you don't get bigger muscles or anything), but I really notice if I go a few days without doing it ... i.e., I don't notice its presence, but seriously notice its absence. Yoga is a great practice that contributes to health and flexibility in all sorts of general ways. But your exercises (which are, in fact, quite like a form of yoga) specifically target flexibility for golf. Every one of them immediately and intuitively made sense.
    Many thanks.

I think these work outs and surfing routines are so good for your body mind and game thank you. I'm surfing again a fair bit so will be doing on land training for this as well. This will complement golfing and long term hopefully keep me in the game stronger injury free for longer

Excellent video! This one and last week’s Over 50 video were exactly what I’ve been looking for. Great stretches, I’ll be incorporating them into my daily routine.

I am a senior (65) golfer and very fit. I have worked out my entire life and still lift three days a week or so and do some cardio another two or three times as well. It is frustrating for me that I am strong and fit and still not able to generate any decent club head speed and it has really been that way my entire golf career. It's nice having some extra muscle, but I think it is inhibiting my shoulder turn. I feel a lot of resistance and all tight when I take a back swing and cannot get a full turn. No pain just tightness. I do yoga for my back which helps a lot, but need something to help improve my upper body flexibility. These look like some good moves. I am going to start making this a part of my exercise routine and do them two or three times a week and see if it can help me get a better more full and less restrictive shoulder turn. And I have a GC3 to help me measure the results. I'm geeked. Thanks MSG - I'll send you $5 for every MPH I can gain !!!

I feel your pain so to speak lol. I have been working out religiously for 36 years (56 year old) and recently getting back into golf after a back injury. It has been very frustrating to literally come up short on almost every shot and get outdriven by pretty much everyone no matter their physical condition or age lol. I have very poor shoulder turn and have finally come to the realization that I have to increase my flexibility. I hope you were able to make some progress in the last 8 months.

@@timk2853 Hey Tim. Sorry for the long reply, but since we have a similar issue and you did ask and I have the time....
I did try the stretches that MSG showed but wanted something a little more specific to my upper body. I found a channel by a young man named Tom Merrick which has some real good stretching routines. They are very similar to a lot of the yoga moves which I already do regularly so I just added some of them to my routine and try and do them 3-4 times a week or more. I have not spent a lot of time doing them yet, but they are getting easier and my range of motion has improved so I know I am making progress on that front.
As far as getting more distance goes, I started working on a speed training program. I am a member of TSG (Top Speed Golf) with Clay Ballard and started to work on his speed training module. He has a very formalized training regime that resonates well with me so I figured I’d give that module a try. It’s based around the driver but any speed gains you might get are translated down to other clubs as well.
In a nutshell, the idea is to engage different muscle “types” by pushing the limits. There is a lot of science around this too so it''s not BS. My initial base line max speed, swinging as hard as I could, was about 89 Mph. After about only four or five sessions I hit a max swing speed of 98 Mph which was pretty cool. Now that is swinging as hard as you possibly can not caring about where the ball goes, but it also raises your normal swing or gaming speed, which I managed to get to about 90 or so…which is a significant improvement since I started around 82 mph. My goal was to get to 105 max or between 95 and 100 or so for a normal gaming swing speed which should net me drives in the 230 to 250 yard range which would be awesome for me. Unfortunately I ended up with a pinched nerve in my neck so had to put the training on hold and ended up finding out I have degenerative arthritis in my spine…so yeah - something else to deal with...but I was making progress and plan to resume the speed training as soon as I am able.
After some physical therapy I was able to work with irons and did some filming of my swing using the V1 App and found that I was clearly flipping just as I came into contact with the ball. This surprised me a bit as I thought I had worked that out, but it was still there right at impact. I have always struggled with hitting the ball first and then taking a divot which is how I happened across the TSG system. I had gotten a lot better, but still not making that real good solid contact and if you are not hitting the ball first, you can really lose some distance and control.
Then I found a swing tip from Tom Saguto (SagutoGolf). It was all about keeping your left arm straight and putting your weight on the left side. I guess it’s built on the stack and tilt system? I don’t know, but dude, it has been a game changer for me. I was so fixated on getting a huge full turn I had gotten real lazy when it comes to keeping my left arm straight. Once I started to use his method of just making a natural full turn that is comfortable but keeping your left arm completely straight while loading your weight on the left side, I started to strike the ball so much more pure and taking a divot after hitting the ball about 90% of the time.
Unfortunately I was sidelined again due to another health issue that resulted in surgery so I have not been able to continue practicing until about two days ago. But so far I am still making real solid consistent contact just taking 3/4 swings. I have just been hitting Birdie Balls for the most part just to get the swing down but also a few balls into the net. I have not pulled out the GC3 since I am not taking full swings quite yet, but just based on the consistent contact I am making, (using impact tape) not to mention the solid sound and feel, that I will be getting more distanced with my irons.
As soon as I am able I will be going back to the speed training too. Hopefully between the speed training, the swing changes I made and the flexibility training I can start getting those 230-250 yard drives and more distance my other clubs as well.
Anyway, thought I would share that with you since we both seem to struggle with the same issue - not getting distance even though we have the muscle for it. Take care and if you have any questions just let me know.

It isn’t limiting your turn. A lot of golfers are muscular. Flexibility issue isn’t an over abundance of muscle. It’s a lack of proper technique

Thanks Matt...just re-visited this. I work out 5-6 days a week and in good shape but have recently realized how inflexible I am. I am so tight thru the shoulders and hips and it has greatly reduced my shoulder turn in the golf swing. I injured my back a while back and didn't play golf for several years. I have gotten back into the game but lost a lot of distance and power and figured out that I am using mostly arms and not getting much of a shoulder turn. Hoping these exercises and others will help me gain back some flexibility.

I liked these exercises. I have had a complete shoulder replacement (removal of 3 out of 4 rotator cuff muscles) and cervical Spinal fusion operations which have caused tightening of all of my back muscles and whilst I can't get the full movement you show, these exercises have really benefited my practice sessions at the golf range whilst we have been in lockdown here in Australia

I'm doing all of these along with you. They are really good so far. Gotta remember these for when I go play. I'm getting ready to hit some foam and plastic balls in my front yard right now. Those balls are super good for practicing when you live in the city and don't want to bust anyone's windows out.

I see that that first exercise will help the spine flexibility but I also see that your left arm is not going very far back relative to your chest. I know that that's not critical but I have good spinal flexion, but my shoulder angle between my chest and my arm is wider than I want it to be. Is there an exercise that will allow my left arm to get closer to my chest on the backswing?
