The biggest flaw in this entire discussion is considering Ramayan and Mahabharat as religion books. They are books of Dharma. Dharam is theories of societal, familial, and personal behavior patterns. The Jaishankar family's success in Indian diplomatic structure is largely due to their roots of understanding Dharma. Mr Bashani also forget to mention that Gandhi that he appreciate so much openly says that all his work is inspired from Bhagvadgita.

Dr. Jaishankar didn’t says India/Bharat’s foreign policy is based on Ramayana or Mahabharata. He did say that one can learn a great deal from the diplomats depicted in these epics. I don’t think that endangers India’s secularism. For instance, western diplomats are inspired by Kissinger, who was a Jew. That doesn’t make them follow the Jewish faith.

First of all india does not look at Mahabharat and Ramayana as religious texts. These are Indian classical works. Learning from them does not tantamount to bringing in religious elements at all. Contradict this with the state of Pakistan - it is officially an Islamic state by itself!

No doubt it's difficult for Pakistan to differentiate between religion and civilization. Ramayan and Mahabharat are the classics, which are part of our heritage and civilization and not religious books in typical sense.

Bharat is the birth place of three major religions Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, so Hinduism has always been a tolerant religion unlike Islam.
There is no religion called Hinduism - PERIOD. The religion is called Sanata Dharma, with 5 core principles, Karma(good or bad deeds come back to you and become you), Dharma( do all duty, to best of your ability), Moksha(by good deeds get free from cycle of life and death, matter never dies, only changes form hence reincarnation), Yoga (mental and physical wellbeing) and Ahimsa (dont be unnecessary violent to humans and animals alike). The core principles of Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism is no different than what you are referring to as Hinduism, infact all of them are Sanatna Dharma. I am a Jat Sikh, but i am a Sanatani first, inside Sanatan the type i follow is sikhism. I can be a Nastik, not believe in any god and still be a Sanatani, if i follow or believe in the 5 core principles, that is why it is often called way of life who study it deeply, than a religion. *Be proud to be a Sanatani* (buddhism, jainism,sikhism,hinduism are all part of Sanata Dharma)
Actually that’s not entirely accurate, there was a violent reaction to Buddhism from Hindus one time. Read up on AjaatShatroo son of Bimbisar.

Even in sikhism, there are documented fights of people who believe only only 10 gurus with those who say this is 11th guru. Does that mean both are not sikh. So everyone fought with each other and inside with various sects.* But lets examine physical evidence, can you find any old Bhudda statue in India destroyed, is any old documented budda monument of significance destroyed - answer is no. On the other hand you will still find temples in Himachal pradesh and WB Darjeeling etc, where half the temple is dedicated what you consider hindu gods and other half to bhuddism. In Ladakh you will find inside monasteries both Lord Bhudda and Ma kali, you can clearly see its ma kali, even though name is changed to ladaki dialect, you can see its same due to hands and objects inside it, tiger and person below feet. All bhuddist scriptures and prayers are in old Hindi dialect from that time as used in North UP/Bihar and South Nepal. *So you will find overwhelming evidence of coexistence but very little evidence of destruction.* Also if you look you will find multiple old books documenting a Maha debate with sages of both Sanata Dharma and newly formed Buddhist, where Bhuddist lost debate as got proved everything in bhuddism already exist in Sanata, this lead to reversal in Bharat, when these sages reconverted back due to loss in debate. *Read about the Shankaracharya debate Vs Bhuddist monks in in the Shastrarth debate, where loser will convert back to Sanatan or convert to bhuddist* which marked the revival of Sanata which was losing to newly arrived bhuddism at that time.
