Gangaram Aggarwal was from Muzaffarnagar UP. Muzaffarnagar and sorrounding areas have lot of Banias . Gangaram later migrated to Punjab which was major centre for British after bengal due to Military HQ and most solider recruitment from this Belt after 1857 revolt by awadh and Delhi. So lot of project were goin on in Punjab. Gangaram made career there and contributed a alot after that
I have been living in model town for past 14 years but I never knew this that the map and architecture of model town was made by sir Gangaram... I am from a single village that still gets electricity from renala khurd hydroelectric power plant designed and layed the foundation by sir Ganga Ram. In past when whole Pakistan face electric crises, we were only a single village to not face a single second electricity shortfall, courtesy sir ganga ram's hydroelectric power plant. Our village also have the Havelli of sir ganga ram that he used for his rest. Truelly a Legend❤.
Sir Gangaram was an alum of my college, IIT Roorkee (then Roorkee College of Engineering). I graduated from there in 2015. There still is a sprawling hostel named after him, called Ganga Bhawan. Everyone who has graduated from Roorkee knows about Gangaram, and takes high pride in that.

I attended school and college in Pakistan but nothing was mentioned in Pakistani history books about great contributions of Sir Ganga Ram. I am from South India. I had heard about gangaram hospital and maybe a gangaram college. But did not know anything about this great man. Thankyou for this educative video. This man has to be studied in indian schools as well to gain some inspiration.
Even though I liked the way have celebrated Muzammil and I myself do, make no mistake, he also wasn't born a intellectual. In fact, nobody is! He had to cultivate a curious and skeptic eye and work hard to get over the biases that were spoon-fed to him just like all others around him and therein lies his merit and greatness. Anyone can learn, grow and change themselves but you need to be brave, hard working and honest but unfortunately it is something in short supply in this land of pure of ours.

My mother in law very fondly remembered her lahore days and very proudly used to tell me that she studied in the most modern ,updated and if it is ok to say fashionable Lahore college for women....and the girls from the cream of society took admission in this college...the years probably were the late 30s or early 40s .her father was a well known Doctor of undivided punjab of that time.....and then partition happened.😢😢

Notable names include Narain Jagannath Vaid, Hiranand Karamchand Advani, a prominent businessman and philanthropist; and Sadhu Hiranand, a spiritual leader and reformer. Their contributions have left a lasting impact on the city's social, economic, and cultural development.
And those Sindhi later build and developed cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Gandhidham, etc. Hiranandani's are the prominent businessman in India who has built many skyscrapers in Mumbai.

I am glad to share that growing up in Pakistan I knew about Sir Gangaram. The reason we used to read English newspaper. The content of those newspaper were much different than Urdu newspapers. I had read several articles about Sir Gangaram in those newspapers. I also know much of what you are telling in this video.

Sir Ganga Ram stands today as one of the most important figures of Lahore ane Punjab as a whole. It is a shame that people do not know more about these heroes. Dulla Bhatti, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Bhagat Singh, Lala Laj Patrai, Sir Ganga Ram and so many more heroes must, AT ALL COSTS, be remembered and revitalized.
In India we remember all of them. We learn about them in our history lessons from Ranjit Singh ji to Lala lajpat Rai to Bhagat Singh to Sir Ganga Ram to Uddham Singh. (However, it's another story that children find history boring!) but some of these lessons stay with us for lifetime.

I am 73 years old living in Delhi n I know some families who had come from Lahore n adjoining areas there n how they used to mention Sir Gangaram for his visionary profile n development of his country. Having grown up in India and having lived in Delhi for several years, even quite close to Gangaram Hospital, I had not heard of this great man. And I’m ashamed to say that I was not curious about the person after whom it was named. The nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture of Pakistani, erstwhile Indian, cities were not part of our curriculum or even discussed outside, possibly, the best architecture colleges. I was aware of the rich history of education and culture of Lahore, from Mughal times through the Sikh and British rule. I knew about Lahore Fort and the Jama Masjid, but little else. Who are the contemporaries of Sir Gangaram? We have Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, a civil engineer in India on whose name "Engineer's Day" is celebrated. He too constructed many dams and cities. We've Sir C V Raman who got Nobel prize for conceptualizing "Raman effect" pertaining to behaviour of Light in water. Sir Gangaram belongs to that category. Gangaram Aggarwal was from Muzaffarnagar UP. Muzaffarnagar and sorrounding areas have lot of Banias . Gangaram later migrated to Punjab which was major centre for British after bengal due to Military HQ and most solider recruitment from this Belt after 1857 revolt by awadh and Delhi.

In past when whole Pakistan face electric crises, we were only a single village to not face a single second electricity shortfall, courtesy sir ganga ram's hydroelectric power plant. Sir Gangaram was an alum of my college, IIT Roorkee (then Roorkee College of Engineering). I graduated from there in 2015. There still is a sprawling hostel named after him, called Ganga Bhawan. Everyone who has graduated from Roorkee knows about Gangaram, and takes high pride in that.

I am glad to share that growing up in Pakistan I knew about Sir Gangaram. The reason we used to read English newspaper. The content of those newspaper were much different than Urdu newspapers. I had read several articles about Sir Gangaram in those newspapers. I also know much of what you are telling in this video.

This is an inspiring story. 80% of humanity advances due to the 20% of people like Ganga Ram. It has been going on since the dawn of time. They are forgotten in the history but they DNA remains in their work. They worked becuase they though it was the right thing to do and advance the cause of this carbon based society that made them. Sir Ganga Ram stands today as one of the most important figures of Lahore ane Punjab as a whole. It is a shame that people do not know more about these heroes. Dulla Bhatti, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Bhagat Singh, Lala Laj Patrai, Sir Ganga Ram and so many more heroes must, AT ALL COSTS, be remembered and revitalized.
In India we remember all of them. We learn about them in our history lessons from Ranjit Singh ji to Lala lajpat Rai to Bhagat Singh to Sir Ganga Ram to Uddham Singh. (However, it's another story that children find history boring!) but some of these lessons stay with us for lifetime.

Muslims cut his entire family into pieces and Milkha Singh ran to Delhi by train and later win medals for India. On one side they kill all Hindus and sikh and force them to leave Pakistan. On other side Gandhi appeal all Indians to not kill any muslims. That's why today 15 percent population in India is muslim. But in pakistan there is less than 1 percent Hindu.

Thank you so much for your lovely podcast affirming my knowledge about Sir Gangaram. I am 73 years old living in Delhi n I know some families who had come from Lahore n adjoining areas there n how they used to mention Sir Gangaram for his visionary profile n development of his country. In Hindi there’s a phrase, “ Yatha Naam Thatha Gunn “, one’s name is personified by one’s trait. He’s truly a Bharat Ratna.

Having grown up in India and having lived in Delhi for several years, even quite close to Gangaram Hospital, I had not heard of this great man. And I’m ashamed to say that I was not curious about the person after whom it was named.
The nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture of Pakistani, erstwhile Indian, cities were not part of our curriculum or even discussed outside, possibly, the best architecture colleges.
I was aware of the rich history of education and culture of Lahore, from Mughal times through the Sikh and British rule. I knew about Lahore Fort and the Jama Masjid, but little else.

We have Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, a civil engineer in India on whose name "Engineer's Day" is celebrated. He too constructed many dams and cities.
We've Sir C V Raman who got Nobel prize for conceptualizing "Raman effect" pertaining to behaviour of Light in water.
Sir Gangaram belongs to that category.

I was born in OKARA in 44 where my Grandfather had a textile mill called Sutluj cotton and weaving mill in partner ship with G D Birla
We came to India as refugees so don’t know much about it except my mother used to say it was big ,wonder what happened to it,may be

Since I left India at the age of 18 and got stuck here in US perusing one degree after the other that lost touch with India also except the name Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi where I had to go for some treatment on one of the visits to Delhi
