- Gigantic Phantoon clone. I have no idea why it's chilling in space but here we are fighting it again. It's not very hard but it can be a pain to dodge the millions of flaming blue eyeballs that it shoots out. They're pretty much just for sensemoving and quick charging the hell out of it's eye. It goes down quick if you can deal damage fast enough before it kills you. Most of the battle is dodging and countering. Screw attack the hands to kill them quickly, and if you can't kill it quick enough, dodge efficiently to avoid the red gravity fields it summons on the floor. When you see it's eye fall to the floor, rush in and use a finisher.

This scene brought this entire game justice. It brought back an old boss, Samus didn’t talk for once, and the music is downright amazing.
I was honestly SURPRISED they brought this guy back in this game. He was always my favorite boss in Super Metroid, and also the hardest, but having both of those in Other M just truly made it worth my while.
He is not even that hard anymore in Super, just dont use super missles on him
Was it really that surprising? He is an interdimensional being that likes to collect abandonned ships. When you know the lore its really not that surprising tbh.

Hate to break it to ya, but it's no clone. Phantoon is not from the Metroid world: it is akin to an Eldritch Abomination: You can force him out of the material plane, but he'll always return. What's worse, he feeds off of negative emotions, warping his hosts into distorted beings belonging more to his world than ours.

Phantoon has a feed off of energy, not emotion. (Why would you think that?)
Note how the entirety of the ship is completely devoid of power until you defeat Phantoon. He's soaking up that power big time.
If he fed off negative emotions, he'd be at least the size of a small planet, given how annoyed everyone is at Other M in general.

You've got the wrong idea. They mean that Phantoon is actually in outer space, not just on a planet or in a ship. The actual void of space.
If you had only shown this clip to everyone as a trailer before Other M came out everyone would be saying that this would be the best Metroid ever.
I don't care how much the rest of Other M might suck, its existence is justified by this one mind-blowing scene.

@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 Agreed. Played it because i'm a metroid fan, but unlike any other title in the franchise. It and Federation force are the two I have no desire to pick up again. the 'idea' of it being a precursor to fusion was interesting, and set the stage of environmental testing satellites to be the norm rather than some ship that had no real purpose aside from being a plot point. But while the story was piss poor as it completely shat on all prior character development before and after in the timeline for samus, the gameplay was average at best. The speedbooster in this one was the least impressive of all titles lacking that visceral impact and idea of speed. The controls were clunky as heck, which can be excused as being a Wii title thing, but there was literally zero reason for missles and grapple to be activated by STOPPING ALL MOVEMENT AND POINTING in a game that's trying to emphasize movement and agility with dodges and such. The idea that Samus can just think really hard to regenerate health and missiles is also idiotic as if she could do that, there'd be literally no threat to her and completely invalidate the purpose behind recharge stations. If she just had to concentrate. She could have refilled herself in Super and the Baby wouldn't have had to bail her out.
then there's the whole "oh woe is me, I'm having a sad so my suit dematerializes" That's not how the power suit has worked. Ever.
The Power suit when inactive is stored on her ship and transported to and from her via mental link and the chozo runes on her zero suit. In Zero mission, she can't summon it because she'd just taken it off and then said ship was destroyed. If a moment of weakness was all that was needed to cause the suit to dematerialize, then the first time she fought ridley it'd have done the same and she'd have burnt up in Norfair. Or god forbid fusion when she's literally knocked unconscious and no longer able to concentrate due to X parasite infestation, it also would have dematerialized. Don't forget Prime 3 getting knocked out after shooting down the Leviathan at the start, or any impact strong enough to knock or steal upgrades out of her.
Like in the end, there's so many bullshit plot threads that if the story alone was removed and it was a purely action game, it'd still be a less than average title. With them? it's a black mark on the franchise.
And for those saying "well the missiles and grapple beam were done with the wiimote due to the limitations of the controller!" and to that I say. Lolno. it was because everyone and their mother was trying to get in on motion controls at the time. Wanna know what would have done just as well? Grapple beam you still had to hit A to grapple in 1st person. so instead of that. Just make it proximity based that only activates out of combat. Oh. Kind of like how it worked at the end of this fight. Gasp! and missiles? two actions can be bound to one button shockingly enough. (-) was your map. easy enough to make it so a tap of (-) would switch you to missile mode, and tapping again would be back to beams. The obvious tradeoff being high power for limited quantity as it's always been. and if you held (-) then it'd pull up the map. Simple as that. As for concentrate? Sure leave in the piss poor mechanic and leave it set to point straight up. Give people a crutch. oooor. Use the previously established method back in Fusion for these ships. A recharge station right next to the save room, and change it so missile packs give more than +1, this way instead of having a total of 80 missiles that you can recharge on a whim but never use because they're slow as hell. make it like classic, maybe not +5 which would give 360 missiles (10 to start and 70 packs), but +2 or +3 for a total of 150 or 220. People would be more willing to shoot them, but still be mindful about their ammo count. And it'd make the game feel a lot less clunky.
But no, they had to do their own special brand of bullshit and make a promising title into hot garbage. The fight with Phantoom wasn't even fun or 'epic' it was literally spam dodge and shoot charges. Don't wanna worry about fireballs or hands? screw attack around. No risk. No difficulty. Why? because they made him a huge target and his most terrifying mechanic was gone due to that. The action of turning invisible and attacking you while you can't see. If they brought him back down to proper size and gave him that? it would have been a much more challenging fight because dodging constantly may have you run into him which would do massive contact damage. Making people have to put some thought into the fight again.
But that was the whole theme of this production company. Instead of challenging fights. Just make them 'look' challenging by making them big.
So no, I don't think bringing back a boss from a previous title gave it any brownie points. If anything it just made me more annoyed with how bad the game was.
At the very least, Phantoon was helping out with the destruction of the Bottle Ship by causing a lot of damage.
Trivia: If you just shoot Phantoon instead of using the lethal strike, his eye will explode.

Metroid has to be dark, kids already have mario and pokemon so get the hell of ma face, i wish metroid prime 4 would be dark they can also call it darkness (like echoes and corruption)

Honestly the game was meant to clarify Adam Malcovich and his relationship with Samus since she talked alot about him in Metroid Fusion. It’s why I loved the ending scene where she is shown shedding a tear while clutching Adam’s helmet. She wasn’t so dramatic in that and I did get emotional. Got turned off by Samus’s personality display when Adam said he had no choice but sacrifice himself to destroy the unfreezable Metroids in Sector Zero. Definitely not necessary to show too much emotion. While Adam was so...idk..lifeless? Samus was...too human...because if she’s supposed to be a seasoned, well established respected and feared bounty hunter then those qualities needed to be shown to give us that side of her while still showing us that she is still human which the retrieval of Adam’s helmet scene showed that the best. Plus the backstory. During her time in the galactic federation was fine. I do like lore but I dont like how they handled her emotions during her fight with Ridley, and Adam’s sacrifice
I was never drawn to the classic Metroid or Prime games, but I thought Other M looked fun and ended up really enjoying it. So much so that it made me want to go back and play the old games, and even though they're still not my favourite it introduced me to a universe that I now love. So for me personally, Other M was a great game :)

@@eonflutehza131 Same here. I grew up in the Super Metroid era and never felt the Prime trilogy to generate the same look & feel like the 2D games did. It just didn't "feel right". As Other M had a somewhat "direct connection" to SM story-wise via the opening cutscene, I instantly was propelled back into the "old-fashioned, natural SM feeling" that I loved. Whatever anyone has to say about OM, personally, I'm still a fan of it.
Yep. I have finished every Metroid there is, even the spin-offs, on hard and I keep coming back to Other M. It's the only one I've beaten on hard more than once. It just feels right.
Sure, it gets shit on for being linear, Samus' portrayal, and as I say the "Resident Evil plot" (swap out Samus for Jill, the space station for a mansion on a lab, the creatures for zombies, MB for maybe a Wesker clone, and you've got a solid RE story that's known for its cheesiness), but gameplay-wise it feels so nice. It's a shame Phantoon only appears on Normal mode.
I just wish we had a full story mode Metroid that gave us all the details to the story instead of having to read manuals and wikis. I imagine the opening segment with a young Samus without a power suit escaping the city during the pirates' invasion, hiding and so on, as something like Last of Us
@@Rhys-Lightning Indeed, M:OM has nice cinematics, which caused goosebumps especially for "veterans" like me who always wished to see the Mother Brain fight from Super Metroid in a "more photo-realistic version". For my latest "Metroid: Organ Transplants" album teaser (see th-cam.com/video/HOEWikdP2jI/w-d-xo.html for reference), I found a nice 4K UHD upscale of the opening cutscene from Other M, which is pure eye candy IMHO.
Imagine fighting this version of Phantoon in the original game
I can seriously imagine using the grappling beam to yank the eyeball out of it's socket and inflict massive damage on the boss attacking it directly!

i think they didnt put a mother brain battle for 2 reasons:
1. Its too simple of a battle (just shooting the eye really?)
2. Phantoon seems like a better choice because of the way he floats all around.
plus i think they intended for the AU battle in metroid prime 3 to be sort of mother brain battle
Shooting at the eye when it opens to deliver brain blast while freezing rinkas circles screw-attacking to go through lasers having to destroy zebetites being careful to not fall in acid. Too simple of a battle indeed.

how come i never got to fight this boss? the game ended for me right after the metroid battle. ._.
From what I gathered it seems that the playable epilogue is missing from Other M's hard mode
Juan Lopez If I remember correctly, the game does seem to end after the Metroid battle, you have to reload your save file to play the epilogue.
Also, in the hard mode, I believe the game ends at the Metroid.
People complain a lot about Other M, but in Other M we have:
Adam's death and sacrifice
Adam brother's death and past
Metroids that can't be frozen
The explanation of RidleyX body
A Metroid Queen fight
The explanation of Nightmare' body
The epic Space Jump/Screw attack cutscene
The epic Gravity Suit activation scene
The return of Phantoom
A bit of Samus feelings
Other M might not be a perfect Metroid Game, but it was far from terrible.
I always wished there was an alternate ending if you killed him with the lethal strike instead of just blowing the duck out of him. Maybe a hack could fix that?

Metroid was so good at telling stories through things happening without any need to use much dialogue at all. This was the exact opposite

For what it was worth, I think the objective in this game was to delve deeper into Adam Malcovich, who he was, and his relationship to Samus Aran since we got that plothole from Fusion. Also if this game was supposed to establish character development for her, it should’ve been executed better. Especially during her encounter with Ridley and “permission” to use her Plasma Beam. I get that she restricted use of all her abilities bar morph ball just to show us it’s a sequel to Super Metroid. Using everything she obtained against Mother Brain with that flashback. Definitely her personality couldve been shown better. But I did like the ending scene with her hugging tightly to Adam’s helmet. That was a good scene. Not too dramatic.

This game was awesome, like a real Metroid game. The Primes always just felt like any other First Person shooter with a Metroid skin on it. This one has the correct platforming, timing your jumps and somersaults between shots. I always felt like Metroid was an open mapped version of Megaman with a creepier atmosphere. Just like Megaman Legends doesn't feel like a Megaman game, I'd say the same about Prime. Though I do enjoy the stories of the Primes still.
Also given it was said Phantoon fed on star ships power, as well as the Brain waves of Mother Brain, and Other M takes place right after Super Metroid. From fleeing the exploding planet, to wanting vengeance on Samus, to it sensing it's Boss Mother Brain's signals again, to Ridley respawning and wanting to take his vengeance with his Pirates, there are too many reasons for Phantoon to be there.
Alright man, it's cool if you like this game, but saying the Prime games just feel like any other FPS is just a bad take.
pretty epic final boss battle!
This game played pretty well (could have done without forced first person sections though) and I think the bosses highlight this. All but MB are a blast to play (MB is just too quick), especially the Queen Metroid, the Vorash, Phantoon, and especially Ridley (cutscene aside).
I still dont get it,how Panthom can stay in a room with the other members of that group of villains:Ridley ,mother brain etc

@@Artemis-os7hn Besides, GalFed has also replicated Mother Brain here with explicit reason of using her telepathic powers to control Zebesian Pirates and Metroid. Might be, that those telepathic actions also served as beacon to Phantoon.

Idc what people say about metroid other m. I loved this game so damn much. I just hated the whole "missile system". It was fucking stupid. But the bosses, gameplay, it was very fun otherwise. It felt like a mix of Super Metroid and Prime.

Cato I gotta agree I love other m too but if people would stop complaining about the story they should know that this game takes place right after super metroid due to the intro sequence and such the middle system was terrible but other than the fans arguing its place in the timeline this game had some really good graphics/gameplay
The main complaints were "Samus is a badass but in this game she's a bitch" but uh... I also think those people forgot Fusion.
Samus had no such moments in Fusion like she did in Other M. Her personality in Other M is an overt exaggeration of her personality from Fusion. I don't necessarily think it was done "poorly," but Samus' personality and tendency to whine, become overcome with grief and fear didn't sit well with me.
Honestly, there's a shitload of complaints about the gameplay too.

Never really played MEtroid Other M but I for my part thought thatt he Story telling was good and the Sound effects, Music and Design is amazing.

Hmm, I thought at the beginning of the game someone said Power Bombs could destroy an entire station...
Maybe if the bombs were put in a certain location that it might. As he said before It could with the destructive force they carry.

No joke about it one bit. I actually don't mind seeing there is logic behind of being restricted for not a kill everything mission in a place you start out with of little to no information about.

I wonder why they decided to bring him back of all the space pirates, and the final boss at that. I'd say that He's the least popular of the og 4. Definetely less popular than Kraid.

Why the fuck is Phantoon of all things the final boss? He went straight from generic boss in the middle of the game to generic boss shoehorned in at the end. Granted, he is awesome, but that doesn't excuse the development choice.

I get what you're saying, but personally I think Phantoon should be given more presence. This is immediately after Super, and Phantoon is a cosmic horror ghost thing. I'd be very much down with it becoming a recurring enemy, like Samus made an enemy of a force of nature itself. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this, in an otherwise horrendous game. It also fit due to the "broken down and desolate ship" environment, like the wrecked ship in Super. There are many worse things to bring up with regards to Other M. As for the other guy saying they should have put Kraid in, how exactly? Ridley's existence was explained through "cloned and went through its 'natural' life cycle" but Kraid? He's probably as big as the room you fight Nightmare in. I don't see how, within the context of this game, they'd make it happen. Kraid isn't as popular for some reason either unfortunately. I'm not shit-talking, I just can't think of a way to put him in.

Phantoon was one of the only things Other M got right. That moment in the beginning where he floats up silently like that made me go "ohshitohshitohshit" in a way no other boss aside from the Queen Metroid did.
You know, kinda like that feeling Metroid Prime managed to pull off with every single major boss ever -_-
This, and Quadraxis are about tied when compared height wise. The tie breaker is, Whose more bad-ass?

Quadraxis: Giant possessed mechanoid Guardian.
attacks by shooting Annihilator beams, producing it's minions, Spinning like an electrical top, and attempting to crush you.
Quadraxis wins easily (in my opinion)

Why the fuck was phantom the final boss that makes no sense and is super random i feel like the mother brain fake or ridley where more deserving of being the final boss i mean they had actual build up this is just a random space ghost that happens to be there
its not the final boss, phantoon is a secret boss fight not more
I kinda don’t like this boss fight, I love the reference to super Metroid, but it doesn’t feel like phantoon
Think about it, in the Super Metroid, Phantoon never died like the other bosses. It just, vanished. It probably went to that station to refill it's energy from MB, a familiar woman(?) that gives off familiar thoughts to Phantoon(Phantoon stood at Zebes because it leeched off Mother Brain's strong and dark thoughts). So yeah, it is a surprise, but it makes sense. Oh also, that Phantoon is most likely not cloned, but the real deal.
@@emiriye im just saying that it doesnt feel like phantoon fight, in super metroid he would vanish into thin air and then reappear to shoot blue fireballs at you and his movement would be flowy, in other M he just sorta sits there and the only thing that returns from his fight in super metroid is the fireballs, he doesnt disappear or float around the arena
@@bartlegoof5949 you have a point, I'm just obsessed with Phantoon for some reason, I thought you meant he doesn't belong there. The fight could be done better if he could dodge the attacks at will.
The only good boss fight in this game
Phantoon is my favorite metroid character. He looked so intelligent and wise in super metroid but this looks more like a mutated clone. Phantoon was a sentient cephalopodian spectral entity originally and was possessed my mother brain, the cause of his evil. He looked very beneficial in super metroid almost like something that would be in league with the chozo he was on their ship after all but it got shot down and mother brain possessed him when you defeat him he is free and crosses over in and orange light. But this new version is more evil and grotesque. It's likely a cruel expiriment of the galactic federation yet they were not able to copy his true form; his soul. So you get this mutated disfigured physical incarnation devolved of its spiritual power. This new phantoon clone is physically more powerful but he lacks the intelligence of the original. I love the orginal design he was so cool he was just what I would expect to see from an alien from another dimension. Originally to me he just dos not feel evil almost benevolent. But this clone is just a disfigured body-only copy and that is why he so evil. This clone had no soul so when you kill ur it simply explodes!!! Phantoon's true form appears to be the soul of a highly advanced cephalopodian race he was probably not even evil originally just trapped and possessed by mother brain. It was mother brain who was the evil one!!!

I mean, I like Ridley and Crocomire but I would not say that "Ridley is not really evil it's Mother Brains fault. And come on! he only killed Samus' parents once" that would be stupid. And Crocomire is also just misunderstood. I mean he was just chilling there and this bitch threw him into the acid/lava. yeah sure...
Phantoon is as evil as Mother Brain, Ridley or Crocomire.
Though I have to agree that this Phantoon in Other M was just a clone that is not as intelligent as the one from Super Metroid.
Ridley and mother brain are evil as fuck crocomire and phantoon don't seem to be as evil. Crocomire was just defending itself and phantoon was possessed. The phantoon in other m is a hideous monstrous expiriment. He looks evil and grotesque, howeverthe original phantoon Looked very intelligent his eye looked almost... Sentient or kind... It's just a theory. I think the original was just an sentient otherworldly entity from another dimension whom was possessed by mother brain. Phantoon was on a chozo ship. And mother brain was once good and worked for the chozo. It's likely that when mother brain turned she enslaved phantoon and controlled him. Another thing is that phantoon does not die in the original. After being freed from mother brains controller arms he crosses over in an orange light implying that he was finally free...

Well if you think about it. Your right if we look into it as having a soul of a nice guy, but this wasn't. This thing was given the chance to grow and feed exponentially from the bottle ship and if what you said is true. Than just imagine that the only real thing it was considering to be right and true was from the new mother brain feeding all of the creatures hate and evil including at Samus as well.

I think this is a completely different entity from the original in super Metroid. he just looked very wise for some reason. I think of an alien and that's the image I get. the original had so much biological plausibility. you'd expect a real alien to look like him... something from another realm... I take it he has a very big brain under that fused shell like structure. he's an enigma, phantoon and I don't think well ever know his origins as far as super Metroid. but in the other m its a different entity. it relies on brute force where as the original used mental power!!! I think either the galactic federation or the space pirates took some of his residual DNA and made a half formed clone to use for evil. his organs are visible in the other m and he looks very mutated... but in super Metroid it said he was a spirit who was in league with the chozo on their ship. even mother brain was once benevolent. she became corrupt. I think she possessed the original; phantoon and used him. did you notice that mother brain dies in agony (good riddance) but phantoon crosses over almost like he's transcending. and in other me he just physically explodes. remember in Metroid prime 2 how the luminoth said there was them, the chozo, and two unknown species were described. the N'kren and the Yila... and were said to be enlightened. I wonder if phantoon in his original super Metroid form is one of those species...? I just feel like he has good in him... I have no idea why... but whether I'm right or not... that's just what my subconscious is saying to me...
