    I know it's an old video but it's the first time I've seen this, this came out very cool Bro. fantastic job as always.

    I subscribe to a number of modeling channels and I haven't seen ANYONE do an explosion in process until now. Beautifully done ,sir!!

    the terrain being thrown up and out really sells the explosive sense. very good work. i think you have a knack for snowy scenes.

    Yeah, that is nice. Your paint job on the speeder alone is a showstopper. First time I've seen anyone put snow/ice in the window corners. Classic.

    One of the the unique things about THIS channel compared to other modelling channels is how you cover some things you DON'T see elsewhere, even on Boyd's TrekWorks channel and that's saying something because he covers a lot in earlier videos of his build-ups.
    I hate to say it but we do learn quite a bit from your screw-ups! 😱
    But it generally comes out well in the end...😁 👍
    Patience and acknowledging you have ADD helps in these situations! 😂

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this great comment and observation. I leave the screw ups in just for that purpose. Just want modelers to see that "crap happens" when you're building and you just have to be patient to fix them.

      @@InterstellarModeler I try to give my observations unfiltered and hopefully within the bounds of good taste MOST of the time!
      I do like dark humor, though. It's a consequence of being exposed to 1970s SNL as a child AND seeing things like Flash Gordon/1980 and Time Bandits/1981 before my teens. I'm much older now but the damage has been done!
      This turned out to be one of the better Snowspeeder dioramas I've seen.

    For better coloring of the cotton balls, get RIT DYE from a craft store like Michaels. You boil water, ad the dye, and drop in the cotton.
    It's similar to making "tie dye" T-shirts. For something like this id suggest yellow or orange. Then you can still paint on more color.
    Note that the longer you leave the cotton in the water the darker it will turn out.

    Looks great! I've always liked the "flaming cotton" effect when done well. Incidentally, you can vary the LED intensity by adjusting your resistor value - if it's too bright simply increase the resistance until you like how it looks. I'm not quite sold on the flickering effect for this application. Flickering looks great for burning fire effects, but an explosion (which is often just a second or two on screen) would be just a burst of flame and not really "flicker" much. In my opinion, a diorama with explosions would be like taking a still from an action sequence and the animated flickering effect makes it look more like a continuing burning fire than an explosion. (Just my opinion, I still like the overall effect.) Another thing you might experiment with for increasing the 3D look and realism of the explosion is add small bits of plaster to the cotton so it looks more like it was blasted up into the air than a volcanic eruption (and where you placed this would give a sense of motion from the blast direction). Great job though and your base makes for a more lively display!

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent points...thank you. I think you're right about the flickering as well. Thanks again. I plan on trying this with another project at some point. Appreciate your advice and for watching my video. Happy Holidays!

    Excellent. Though I really wish the stand on these bandai models could be a little less bulky... Wondering if wire from a coat hanger might be worth considering

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your compliment and for watching. I had thought about using a different stand but this one allows you to position the fighter at different angles.

  • @macrumpton
    @macrumpton 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really amazing looking explosions. The only distracting part was the arm holding the snow-speeder. I wonder if you could hide the arm inside of an explosion and have the speeder in a steep bank, like it narrowly missed getting hit.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the arm is also a great way to feed the wire down to the base. Thanks for your compliment.

    • @macrumpton
      @macrumpton 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interstellar Modeler if you really wanted to go nuts, you could have explosions on the speeder itself. Or is that against modeling “rules “?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No not at all. There are quite a few examples you can find online of this being done. This was my first attempt at creating explosions and I figured the easiest would be to create those on the ground. If you were to add one to the ship here, you'd have to take into account that the ship is flying at high speed. The speed of the craft and the rushing air would make the explosion look completely different; windswept.. In order for it to look realistic you'd also have to include flying debris in the air which would be swept backwards. Much more challenging for sure. Thanks for watching and for your kind comments.

    I’ve spent about $1,000 this month on models, supplies (airbrush, glue gun, soldering iron, paints, brushes, leds, etc.) because I saw 2 damn dioramas and an LED Cube on TH-cam. Lolol absolutely brutal but I’m adamantly prepared to learn how to do this.
    P.S. Stay away from Hobby Lobby.... it’s ridiculously expensive.... Amazon and the Dollar Store are a much better bet.
