Just for accuracy, that is not silicone caulking: it is acrylic. The product QDC is using is water cleanup, while silicone caulking is cleanable with mineral spirits. Makes a big difference if you make a mistake!

Enjoyed that qdc. I guess you could also use acrylic gel medium instead of calking. Calking though is denser though, so it would be easier to mould than gel medium. You'd have to do several coats of gel medium and it dries clear. I use gel medium to create water for my ships. I might experiment with gel medium and get back to you. Great work. W

You inspired me to go out and buy a model car because you really got interested in model kits but idk if the level was too high or because I'd never built a kit before but it was really hard like some pieces snapped, gluing was a nightmare, and over all the instructions aren't enough to help me build the car. I'd really like to be able to build tanks like you but this model car killed my moral): you should make a video giving us the basics and walk us through the model world like where to start and what not. Models are so cool and you're so cool QDC you're so good at this teach me how to be like you man):

Kudo's. At first I thought you were having a piss at us with "looking at glue dry (= looking at paint dry) at 1:24." lol. But it looks fine. For small exploding water columns (entering bullets) you must use cottontip hair drenched in the caulk. But having a quick google search I find that pretty much all (big) water explosions have a single fairly solid column of water. Only explosions that happen close under the surface are free to fan out. (google check "depth charge explosions" and 'B-25 "Mitchel" attacks the japanese sea defence' for inspiration ). Well, another opportunity to see the Saving Private R opening scene...

I'm from the uk and our water isn't blue... go for a muddy colour with a tint of red for blood. it would be very convincing for the location. also you could try vallejo for making water, they have a mixture you can mix with paints to give a brilliant colour and appearance. apart from that.... very good work and continue on with the diorama! :)
Thanks for the explanation on how to do explosion's in water - I learnt something so I've subscribed to your channel. Have you done one where you do explosion's in other materials such as sand or a rock face - or even snow ? Would snow be similar to water or would it be different ??? Thanks.
+ODDBALL SOK it'll mainly be red actually. most accounts and sources of d day say that the amount of blood actually ran down the beach and into the water near the sand. so a fair amount of it would be blood, add on the amount of bodies that would float around in the water whuch would pile against the tank traps and obstacles you won't see a lot of the water any way

Hello, I am confused. In your videos you say you use "Artist oil paint mixed with diluted mineral spirit for a wash". Where can I get this? Is a diluted mineral spirit the same as white spirit? Also, where do I get the artist oil paint? I search online and receive hundreds of different colors for it. 2. You say you used previously in the building of your Tiger from Zvesda, a "buff color mixed with white" for dust effect. Can you elaborate on what buff color? As the same before, I search and find hundreds of buff colors. Also, in the building of your Panzer 2 Ausf F, you used light grey for a dust effect. Which do you prefer? 3. In other videos, you have used a black for your first coat to give "shadows", but then in other videos you have used a black primer. Does it matter if I use a regular black paint as the first coat, or does it need to be a black primer? Thanks for the help QDC. I am wanting to build now a SDKFZ 222 and trying to assemble the paints before I buy it. Do you use enamel paints also? I am basically copying your painting routines since I have no clue on how to do it my own, lol. I built a panzer 2 and it turned out alright with painting, but I used a super light sand paint instead of DAK color so it doesn't look that right. But for my first model it's alright. Mineral spirits and white spirits are the same thing, Oil paints can be bought in any craft shop, even easons if you are in the uk, just make sure you get "oil based oil paints" rather than "acrylic based oil paint" although the acrylic based is better for the painters, it's not for the modeller, In addition, the shade of tan doesn't really matter, although they are all slightly different it's the same colour at the end of the day, as long as it is buff (a light tan colour) Hopes this helps! Sorry I forgot to comment on priming, although it isn't a must, cleaning the final model and then giving it a coat of primer can be a real bonus, as it will make painting easier, additionally when it's all painted and dried adding a coat of matt varnish will help the model resist any scratches or chips if it's being handled and gives a really nice finish Personally I have a lot of colours, if I need anything in preticular I'll buy it at the same time as the kit for the sake of connivence, and additionally it's ok to mix your own, this is especially apparent if you ever build a model ship, although nearly all warships have a red hull, the shades vary between navies and such so mixing your own colour is a must, and if things go wrong you can let it dry and paint over it without any major problems :) Happy modelling Christopher
+Airbornerock Hey Airborne. T3RRa_Bite_ summed it up. Just remember that Buff will have all shades of Tan. In Fact all Paints when Mixed will Vary shades between the Paint lots. It will be close to the color mix but all paint lots will vary by Shade. This happens cause of Weather, How fine the Paint pigment is ground, How much carrier is put into the paint pigment. So if you are looking for a particular Buff color there are many. Its also good to Vary the colors cause you put 2 uniformed Soldiers side by side you will Notice the color difference of the 2 solders. One might have a Newer uniform from the other. Their Web gear will have a different shade from the other. Their Helmet will even have differences. So its good to Vary each soldier in your Dio. I hope that this has giving you a better idea on how to paint. I have been painting Models and soldiers for 45 plus years.
