    I would've pressed the feet into the snow effect and then placed the model ahead of it so it seems like it left it's foot print in the snow, awesome video though!

    • @TheOriginalFreak
      @TheOriginalFreak 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My first thoughts when he started talking about setting the model in the snow effect.
      It would have made a great scene to watch him 'walk' the model onto the pad through the snow effect a la Gumby stop-motion animation of the 60's and 70's. LOL

    I have the original MPC model kit of the ATAT and it comes with a snow speeder. It's been sitting on a shelf for 40 years and I plan on building it soon, now that I have gotten back into the art of model building.

      I built 2 of those in the 80's. Then 2 more last year. They still make them. They are BIGGER than the Bandai shown here. Not as much little detail, but half the price.

    When the animators did the original sequences, they studied the leg movement of an elephant, and copied it for the legs of the AT-AT. Look at some pictures of elephants in movement, and position the legs accordingly. Always enjoy your videos, Andy.

    • @apointtomake1517
      @apointtomake1517 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am glad I was not the only one taking notice the leg positions were off. The two legs on the right should be angling in towards one another, almost touching. The left side legs, the rear leg should be angling back, not front, due to it being the next leg to step. When they walk only one foot is off the ground at any given time. The foot step pattern is left front, left back, right front, right back...

    This has changed my whole attitude towards glueless models. Before when I would see “snap together” I could only think of the old “Snap-Tite” models of my youth.
    This model is more of a highly refined LEGO at a much more palatable price point.
    As a 49 year old thinking about getting back into model building, this would be a great one to enjoy without the headache of “airplane glue”.
    I am wanting to build dioramas to photograph as realistic scenes. This would be a great feature piece. Thanks for the video!

      I get all my bandai kits from Tokyo Model Detective (www.tokyomodeldetective.com/product-tag/star-wars/). You pay for the kits and he sends you a paypal invoice for the shipping, I usually get them in a weeks time and you save money too. tmd has a facebook page as well, the owner is Darren Bloomfield, check it out.

      I hope its ok that I posted that link, I'm not trying to promote another store, its just that Bandai star wars kits are only just recently hitting american stores and only a few of there kits at a time. I'm only suggesting, that if you do not want to wait for them to try TMD. Let me know if you want me to remove the link.

    When you said Bandai was coming out with a scale Snow Speeder, I thought it would be cool to pose the model with one of the front legs raised just over a crashed Snow Speeder as if in the next second it would step on it and crush it...and maybe have a scale Luke Skywalker running away. Nice build!

    Have 5 Bandai models myself, they are good kits. Even though the kits say no paint needed, if you're a model painter then you just know some painting will need to be done. Boba Fett and the scout speeder bike expecially needs painting. Nice to see the AT-AT model and great video by the way.

    I know unrealistic giant fighting robots aren't really your cup of tea, but I highly, HIGHLY recommend building a Real Grade, Master Grade, or Perfect Grade line of kits - full inner frame and ridiculous range of motion, all with no glue required.

    I noticed on mine that they used a lot of jerry cans for fine detailing, probably spent as long looking for recognisable bits as building it! I did try out some gundam pens for the paint detailing: a black fine liner and a grey wash pen. They work brilliantly with bandai Star Wars kits.

    Wow!! Nearly 40K subs. It was only a couple of months ago you were celebrating reaching 30k. All your efforts and enthusiasm in building models is really appreciated. I used to love Star Wars as a young boy and still do enjoy it, well perhaps not so much the first three prequels (Phantom Menace stuff). Looking back at it I'm amused and baffled why, when the Empire found the Rebel base - you know, the main Rebel headquarters - why they didn't carpet bomb Hoth and why they only committed half a dozen easily destroyed AT-ATs to whole ground assault. Watching it when I was young I didn't notice this and somehow imagined there was waves after waves of the AT-ATs attacking!! Ahhh, the innocence of youth!!
    Great models as always Andy, great to watch and great to enjoy your enthusiasm for the hobby - there's too many 'modellers' out there who seem to take it far too seriously and don't look like they enjoy it. It's a hobby to enjoy!!!
    Great work.

    Wow that looks amazing, the wash and base just brings it to life, this reminds me of the Revell star trek Voyager i made, being a fan of the series, it made up into a great looking model, lacking in a bit of detail in some parts but overall a great kit, if you can but lights inside, it transforms it into a work of art, i'll certainly have to get my grubby mits on this model!

    ha! i never knew the tale of how ILM pieced together models and it's very cool that you pointed out that one piece of how it was built from Tamiya armor kits. Great stuff! sit tight everyone, time for some star wars lore!
    While impractical, the AT-AT was one of the greatest designs possible at the time. Lessons learned from the clone wars showed that the mighty AT-TE was powerful, but vulnerable to mines. To get rid of this flaw, the design bureau that made the AT-AT's had them be constructed with massive legs that would only have their paint scratched from an AT mine. In addition, the AT-AT was better in manueverability than the AT-TE and more versatile, as it could walk in water that was some 30 meters deep or more, while AT-TE's only went a few meters.
    And there you have it! An unnecessary explanation of why AT-AT's look like that. BTW Andy, great build!

    Oh wow, this is exactly what I wanted to see when I heard about this product! Your presentation is quick, yet detailed, and does not waste time. I would consider subscribing; but I won't, because most of your videos involve tanks and, me not being a tank connoisseur, all look the same and are rather boring; so, I'd rather just save this video rather than be inundated by tank after tank.
