I used to go to Vancouver a few times a year because my grandparents were still there. That was back when my parents were choosing places to eat and their tastes are definitely a little blander, but even the average Chinese restaurants were great. When I was a bit older, I lived there for a semester and got to try the local sushi scene and some Indian foods and everything was fantastic. There are great fancy places, but even the neighborhood hole in the wall places are worth trying.
I come from a very poor village from Serbia (moved to Canada in 1996) but we'd see all the elders going around after a rainfall to collect big bags of snails to eat and sell at the market. First time eating snail was in Canada with garlic butter. This just reminded me of that, nice video :)
Welcome back to BC, glad you enjoyed your short visit. Love your other Vancouver videos in the past, hope you do another series here some day. Safe travels.
Happy Lunar Yea for you and your family. Hope you have a prosperous and healthy year. The food looks amazing and delicious. I love to eat 🍜 and dumplings
Agree - super delicious food throughout this episode! Mike chose a great city (and some excellent dishes) to kick off his new year. He must have good fortune coming his way 😅
Putting away my wedding cake from yesterday while I'm watching Mikey Chen at 10:36 pm is the best way to end my weekend!!! Can't wait to go to Van!! You're not too far from me!! I'm in Alberta! Come check out Banff.
Nice seeing you eating these delicious noodles in Vancouver.. Hope you bring with you your beautiful GF on this beautiful noodle restaurant here in Vancouver Canada
I love Mikey's videos I have a bad relationship with food for certain periods of time where I either completely don't eat and then binge eat on other times, but these videos make me excited and actually feel hungry so I can eat two slices of bread and feel full and watch the video while I eat Don't know if anyone will read this but yea
Born and raised and still live in Vancouver - Richmond actually where most of these restaurants are. R&H at Lansdowne has the best soup dumplings ever.
Next time you are there, eat at Sashimi-ya. I went looking for this place that was supposed to have amazing sushi and was very surprised to find a literal convenience store. The sashimi was indeed amazing. I later learned that Sashimi-ya is run by the former sushi chef at the prestigious Fairmont Hotel, who quit his job to sell the freshest fish in Vancouver out of a space smaller than a 7-11. Get the deluxe sashimi rice bowl and eat it at the park down the street while enjoying the incredible view of the harbour and mountains.
I imagine he's on his way back from Japan in this video. Flights from Asia usually stop in Vancouver or Calgary. When I fly through Vancouver I like to schedule an extra-long layover so I can take the quick train ride to Richmond for some awesome eats.
@@lauriepenner350 In my opinion, Richmond has the best Chinese food in Canada, and Surrey probably the best Indian food in Canada. I have yet to find a bowl of dan dan mein to match what I had when I lived in Chengdu.
@@lauriepenner350 Last time I went to Vancouver was indeed a layover lol! But it was a super short one so I couldn't even think about leaving so this is good to know, thanks for the tip~
My daughters and I have been watching you lately. So awesome you came to our Vancouver!! Never heard of those restaurants so we will now check them out!!
After watching you first go to R&H Chinese food for the soup dumplings, I made sure to check it out & loved them! I make sure to go back every time I'm in Vancouver. Can safely say it is one of my favourite foods
I love hidden gem shacks…dives always have great food. I found a complete dive bar that had a small menu of completely amazing food that the bar was making on very minimal equipment. Everyday was a small minimal menu that just kept getting better day after day. Years later the word got out and now you can’t get a seat in the place for hours 😢
Heey Mikey, my girlfriend and I have been watching you for so many years now!! We’ve tried so many different types of food because of you!! We can’t believe you were able to visit the Vancouver area again, we’re from the area! Another mall you need to visit the next time your around is Henderson Mall for some of the best Asian food!
I live here and you made some fantastic restaurant stops! They used to be called Marutama and it's now Maruhachi. Regardless, it is still some of the best paitan ramen I've ever had! I'm so glad they've slowly expanded to more locations now. :)
The xiao long bao and daily delicious bakery with croissants are two of my fav places! Glad you featured them in your video. Same as Marutama ramen. Next time if you visit again you should try the ramen with an egg!
Mike strikes again! I've been wanting to visit (and pig out in) Vancouver for a long time, and this killer lookin' food only makes things feel more urgent... I need that roti & curry! Thank you Mike 🙏

Hey Mikey! I love your vids and have been a big fan for a while. I wanted to send you a suggestion, I hope you don't mind the critique. The lighting you use on the close up of food/dishes is a bit too harsh. It looks great when the cam is on you, but not on close up of the cuisine. I could suggest some really good softening equipment if you're interested. :)
Thanks for the great reccomendation mikey!! Solo travelling for the first time and was very worth it. Personal takes: tried the chicken ramen would say 8/10 wish i got the thick noodle but would give 10/10 for the egg and chashu. At the lansdowne food court got the regular dumplings instead 9/10 great filling, i got the hk milk tea that is a few stores next to the dumplings and that one is a must try very strong 10/10. Had the beef tendon soup today personally 8/10, you had my expectations so high LOL... the soup was great but not THAT heavenly the way you described it but the beef tendon was 10/10 for sure, also didnt think it was amazing because i wasnt given a large portion i think i only had 4 pieces of beef. Thanks again for the reccs! super fun to follow your foot steps acc in person from watching the videos lmaoo!!
Wantons (云吞) are all about the thin skin rather than the filling. It’s supposed to give one the look and texture of swallowing clouds. Bubble wantons are the epitome of thin skinned wantons with a tiny amount of fillings. If you’re more into the fillings, look for dumplings
Next time you're in Vancouver there's an amazing thai place in guildford, Sabai Thai, gotta try their lettuce wraps, royal pad thai and sour soup. Also when in Rome there's a good sea food and beef pho around the corner called Pho Tau Bay. Loool also while in guildford the best sushi is Hanako. Then the best sushi in BC is KOKO on Hastings just past Playland 💙 would love to see you try these places 🙏
I don't know if you notice this but when you really like a dish you shake your head no.. I can just imagine the cooks not being able to hear you and freaking out thinking you hate it! 🍜👨🏼🍳😧

when i went to shanghai across from hotel had an amazing restaurant you would order and pick up the dumplings outside they were so good i ate every morning for two weeks
ive been to that Raman place and i had that bowl you had, i was not a fan and i have had a few bowls from that place, UNO is amazing, the steak one is so good, next time i go i'll get the mala soup cause i love mala, and hes 100% right about the dumpling place in the mall, i have eaten 3 orders in one sitting.and got the burgers they have to go cause they are also really good, hes had them in an earlier vid from a few years back.

Periwinkles! I haven't seen those since I was a kid, I hated seafood but I loved picking Periwinkles off the rocks and eating them, the grown-ups were so impressed how I gobbled them up!
