Just to help anyone here,clean egr until mint,also any crank case hoses,clean the maf with correct spray,above all,watch this incredible video on how to get at the egr,brilliantly done in all honesty,I was unaware about the top panel,now the video is helping me do a perfect job.
I have the 2014,C-Max I know the panel under wiper arms are different from the car you are working on,hopefully the very clear explanation and telling us about both 8mm bolts you cannot see but feel for,I now have the confidence to work with your video guidance,thank you very much for making things simple to deal with.I do have 40 years experience doing cars vans trucks but not for the 1.6tdci we are proud to own.once again my wife and I thank you for saving us a lot of money.
I think I got the same issue and a cheap odb reader no code but p042f came up and its dtc definitions were not found so doing some research it's a possible cause is egr valve motor an electrical problem fault good video I.ll give it a go
Well that's put me off ! How do you get that clip back on ! And couldn't they have put it in a more awkward place. Do they build the car from the inside and climb out of the exhaust pipe when they have finished
You ought to try doing a VW Golf. Absolute mare. And yes, they bench build the engines then slide them in complete, making sure that all the things that will definitely need changing are impossible to get at. That's progress for you. Give me a MK 1 Cortina any day.
If you are doing the egr,front right side under the plastic intake manifold,you will see it,two 8mm bolts,undo them and the plug,very carefully remove the valve it pulls towards you,check the green rubber type gasket ensure its good,egr use the air intake and carb cleaner to give a perfect result.TH-cam has egr howto clean it.really easy to do,also as your there,a small canister needs cleaning you can see it,crank case breather right by the job your doing,canister has wire wool stuff,cleaning with the can of air intake,you can get this from europarts.
The metal clamp that you released with a flat screwdriver, how would you clamp it back? And why did you change the valve? I have ford focus 1.6 tdci 2007 and the RPM gows up and down sometimes and the mechanic said that if he would start searching to locate the problem it would cost more than the car. I used a pincer tool. I changed it because the engine died after about 1 min, RPM was normal but suddenly it died and showed engine fault in the display. The problem was electrical in my valve. Good luck with your car.

Car repair and service Hi . My engine light is still on after i changed the EGR valve . Do i have to take the car to a service for updating the system so maybe than the engine light will go off? ? Btw your video was a great help thank you !
Ho yes you can clean it. I clean the on on my parent's citroen C3, with a spray can that make some moss a bit like shaving moss and it disolves theblack deposit inside. I did it until it was totaly clean and emptied the can.
@@carrepairandservice7530 I’ve put a new one on my focus 1.6tcdi but it’s still lacking power and showing a p042f error (egr stuck closed) although not throwing a management light......if I delete the code it runs fun for 10mins but the looses power and code comes back? Any help would be much appreciated.....?
Would enjoyed watching this if TH-cam would work properly in the video didn't just sit there buffering and it's nothing to do with my internet what's really unfair

Great vid, what code were you getting? I've got P0488, I've looked it up and it suggests it's something to do with the EGR valve, TIA
Sorry, I don’t remember. The symptom was that the car died after a short while everytime I started it.

If you can’t turn off your engine light your own, maybe you have to do that. Maybe you have some other problem if the light is still on.

They're called Clic-r clamps. A tool can be had for around £5 om Ebay etc. Can still be a struggle to get back on!
