  • In this segment, Ashley shares how she was able to land on a newly FDA-approved targeted treatment (osimertinib or Tagrisso) that allowed her to skip chemotherapy through an IV at the hospital and instead, take a daily pill. She shares how she was able to get such a new drug approved through her insurance, her follow-up schedule with her oncologist, and delves also into the side effects and how she’s been able to get through them as best as she can every day.

In this Series: Our 3-part series with Ashley covers her from how she got diagnosed, to the targeted therapy that had just been approved for her cancer subtype and genetic mutation (EGFR+ T790M) that allowed her to take a pill (osimertinib or Tagrisso) instead of traditional chemotherapy, through how she lives with her incurable but treatable disease.

Today is my birthday and I am sooooooooo blessed to celebrate it.
Last years this time I had a cough that would not go away and felt sooooooooo weak. I thought I had pneumonia or long Covid. After a Chest XRAY, C.T., Lung Biopsy turns out I had Stage IV Lung
    Cancer.
I have been taking Tagrisso since April 2022 and right now so far no serious side effects.
I try not to think too much of my diagnosis because that would make me depressed or anxious but instead try to thank God every day I'm still alive so instead enjoy every day with family and friends.

I am taking tagrisso for 2 months now..I started July 23,2022..this is the drug my oncologist given to me so far I have more energy and good appetite. Before the treatment I have no energy. I am very lucky I can tolerated this drug with only minimal adverse reactions..thank god.I agreed on the video sometimes I felt exhausted but I make sure I take rest..i make sure I stayed hydrated to flushed all the toxin from my body.I drink organic coconut juice and add some sparkling water they taste so good. Coconut water is a high source natural electrolyte with less sugar..Diet I cut back my sugar intake ..so far tagrisso is working good for me...will give some update next time .

I am so sorry for the way you diagnosis was given to you! Just some perspective though - as awful as it feels when you’re the patient doctors who work with cancer patients have to give devastating news a bunch of times every day and if they don’t keep a certain degree of emotional distance they’ll burn out really fast. And if they burn out then there’ll be nobody left to care for cancer patients. So be assured that your doctor likely cared much more than he let on.

Thanks for the feedback! We have to take in all feedback and actually got more requests to break these down into segments so that they were more specific to people's questions/searches. We can try to do a better job of making sure the right video plays right after and/or linking better. If you have other thoughts, we'd love to hear them in detail (support@thepatientstory.com).
