Cody Martin Moving the wheel out with a negative offset with even more weight is drastically ramps up the force applied to the bearings and ball joint in particular. Think of it like a lever. If you choke up on the lever closer to the pivot point you’ll need to exert more force to move it, whereas if you move out further on the lever handle it is much easier to move. Basically if you’re going to go with a large wheel and negative offset, don’t go as cheap as you can to lift it. While my truck is still stock for now, I’ve thrown out any possibility of basic leveling spacer with independent front suspension because they don’t correct ball joint and cv angles. Negative offset wheels can make it even worse. I’ll end up with a proper lift when it’s time because a good lift will supply the necessary components to lessen these issues. Not much fix for the hub bearings themselves though.
Is there any negative offset that's okay and won't threaten damage? I have a dmax 2019 and trying to be well informed before changing tyres and wheels etc
See Shawn, it's videos like this is why you're killing it in your metrics and your competitors hate you lol. What a great way to show how everything changes with bigger and beefier setups. Thanks guys!
Also, as the wheel moves further out, the more the front wheels move like a radio flyer wagon. They no longer pivot around the hublike what was demonstrated in the video, but they swing in an arc forward and back as you turn the wheel.
@shawn Thanks for this video. It makes girls like me with a truck understand exactly what I wanna do to it & why I choose what size tire because I had no idea. I appreciate your time and help!
they do.. that's why chevy is getting narrower fenders to prevent ppl from putting bigger wheels on.. now you have to lift the truck even higher to get the clearance u need.. my 00 as a wide but short fender but as u look at the newer years the fenders get narrow and tall
Part two of this series would be great! I would recommend you take the same wheel in a couple sizes, and a couple tire combos, and show them side by side so people can see the difference from the side, from the front, and from the top-down view. Even better if you line the hubs up along a line so we can see the offset. It would be really helpful to visualize... take your 3 most popular wheel sizes (e.g., 18 x 9 +1, 20x10 - 24, and 20x12 - 44)... and do the side-by-side in 33/35/37 of some popular tire.
Tell these kids you're explaining this shit to, to save there lunch money and mow some lawns and buy the right size lift they need to run there 22x14 moto metals.
I have 305 65r18 BFKO2 running on fuel octanes with a -1 offset on a GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5 inch lift. Thinking about going up to 325 65r18 but not 100% sure if they’ll be no rubbing. What’s your opinion?
Thanks for the video...never understood until today about why going backwards my tire rubs. Fortunately, I dont have to aggressive of a tread so it rubs vs rips
Great simple explanation! I’m actually in the middle of getting a more aggressive tire for my truck and debating doing a lift or not. I don’t think I want a crazy negative offset cause I’m sure that will wear on hub assembly.
You gotta remember too that with a negative offset you are no longer turning the wheel on its center axis. this makes the wheel swing out further as you turn which pushes it deeper into bumpers at full lock.
Fuel Assault 20x9 with 285/60R20 fit on an f150 2015 with the 2in level kit? Or 22/10 with 275/55R22 Nitto ridge tires on both. Or what are biggest tires I could use without cutting or buying a bigger lift?
I wanted 33's for my nitro, but after watching some of your past videos, I quickly learned they wouldn't fit lol. I'm very thankful that I didn't wast my money. Kudos to custom offsets!
I spents weeks researching wheels and tires for my 2022 ram rebel. Finally decided on 20x10 -18 offset with 305/55r20 tires and guess what? Ive seen other trucks with this same setup and on your website and they alll claimed there was no rubbing or scrubbing. But mine do. Even though they are the same trucks and size wheels and tires.
Y’all should do a video on actual tread width vs tire width A 265 is 10.4 wide but the tread is only 7 to 9 depending on the tire so maybe y’all could do a video telling us what tires will have the widest tread width vs tire width
So I have a 2016 ram 1500 that has a 6" rough country lift. I've got OEM wheels and 33 by 12 and a 1/2 inch McGregor's. The math and offsets blew me away as a first timer into a truck. Could you offer me the best configuration for a daily driver(95% pavement) on a 2021 Ford F150 Lariat 5.0 4x4 that has been leveled. I want to run 20" wheels holding Nitto Ridge Grapplers with enough sidewall height to make the best road comfort possible. I'd like to establish a decent configuration before I place my final order for the truck without dealer "recommendations". I'm sure I'll be reordering wheels for the tires after I get the truck. Can anyone tell me if I would need to do any body trimming to run a 22×12 -44 with 33s on a 07 Tahoe that has a 3.5 lift? Would it be smarter to just go with a 20×10 -25? The setup im looking at is a difference of only abot 250, $300 between the two wheel sizes and I would kinda like to go with the bigger set if it's not too much of a hassle. I'm going to search for some more pictures and videos to try to sway me towards the 20s.

Great info bro, Love the football throw you added! Speaking from experience with adding larger tires, and as you already know, the biggest surprise people have by adding larger tires is they don't realize how its going to effect their fuel mileage!! Most don't care but after time that cost adds up quickly. Especially when they only have a 1/2 ton, power to the ground quickly decreases too.
Shawn, I have 3" keys on a 2002 Silverado. I have been looking at the OEM 176 wheels 20x9 and the 20x12 Fuel Mavericks. Could I fit either of these with 305/55's or 33/12.50's without having to trim or do a normal mod?

I just bought a 2014 Silverado and so now I’m tryin to figure out what I can run and what not on it. When I had my super duty I had it all figured out what I could do with it but idk about these newer Silverado’s
Wish i was close to you so you can work on my truck lol. What would you recommend me doing for a great fit on my 2017 chevy colorado i am planning to lift it next month. On a 3inch lift. I kinda want to put 20s but i wouldnt mind 18s for rim size. I dont know much and seeing if someone can help me out before i just go to a spot and have them eff me over
What about lock to lock clearance at full suspension compression? I rarely see this addressed. I see a lot of guys with rub marks that thought the did all the right things. Then they rub at full compression, and not even to full lock..
Chad, only way you'd get full suspension compression is pulling into something really really steep or have too much load. most of these guys are doing stuff on the street and want an aggressive look
I looked at a lot of your videos, and I could not find it, but if it is already done, let me know. But can you PLEASE do a video on the proper way to pair tires and wheels. I see a crap ton of idiots out there on the streets, and even in TH-cam, where they have as an example, an 8" tire and a 10", or even 11" or more, wide wheel, and they are stretching the tire to fit, and have all sorts if problems with the tires and the safety issues that go along with it.
@@CustomOffsetsTV , It is a mistake as it creates undue stress on the sidewalls. But that's ok, because most of the guys that lift their trucks are not up to safety anyway.
Can somebody help me ?¿ I’m trying to fit some 33’s with negative 43 offset on a Nissan Xterra 2000 (stock suspension) Will they fit after some fender trimming ?

Just put in 52 hours overtime, I'd buy wheels and tires, but I'm gonna gets me a lift first. I'm coming for ya Shawn!
Can't wait! Keep puttin in those hours man!
It would be cool if they would offer removable wheel well inserts so you could change dimensions without doing major body work.
It's a balance between diameter, width and offset. It's wheel 101.
As a mechanic I love this new fad of running stupid looking offsets because I know I'll be changing front hub assemblies for the foreseeable future.
Mike Frost can you actually explain what happens? I don’t know and I’m curious.
Cody Martin Moving the wheel out with a negative offset with even more weight is drastically ramps up the force applied to the bearings and ball joint in particular. Think of it like a lever. Best bet would be to google what height people are running to get 35's and stockers to clear!
I just bought a 2014 Silverado and so now I’m tryin to figure out what I can run and what not on it. When I had my super duty I had it all figured out what I could do with it but idk about these newer Silverado’s

Just might need one! Shoot our guys an email to double check on that for you! info@customoffsets.com
my 1500 chevy Silverado still hitting the f** plastic, and I have to remove the tires again to cut more.😣
Melvin Barrios what size spacer do you have on it?
So, 20x10 with -19 or -24 offset on a F-350 with a 4-Inch lift should clear

Could I fit 35x12.50r20 with a -51 offset on an 04 doge ram 1500 4x4 with a 5” lift?

I have a 05 f350 fleet side with a leveling kit can I fit 35's by 13.5 on a -44 offset?
Check our gallery out for fitment help John - this is all the leveled F350's and what they got to fit their trucks - bit.ly/2IGwCuH
Well shit! I just bought 37’s for my F250 because the key commandos said they would fit!
Anthem 721a 20x9 -0 with 37x12.5 r20 kanati mud hogs.
Does anyone know why Dodge right rear tires wear out so fast?
2017 ram 2500 ordered 33-12.50s on 20x10s with -25 offset from them with no lift on the truck and have no problem with rubbing
Because it's a 2500, it's already tall enough to fit that from the factory
Ploppinbass6 no duh 😂🤦🏽♂️ I've seen a ton of dodge 1500s with 20x12's on 33s and no lift no trimming
Wasn't worried about the height of the tire it was the width of the tire when turning with no level kit on very uneven ground
On a 2500 you should be able to clear 35s with no problems at stock specs
Wish i was close to you so you can work on my truck lol. What would you recommend me doing for a great fit on my 2017 chevy colorado i am planning to lift it next month. On a 3inch lift. I kinda want to put 20s but i wouldnt mind 18s for rim size. I dont know much and seeing if someone can help me out before i just go to a spot and have them eff me over

Thank you so much! All your videos are great.
Killer videos guys keep it up
Thanks Andrew!
these are probably customer truck but and u do more Tacoma..im feeling kinda left out.that 6inch with 35s with 12 wides is beautiful..
OK, this wouldn't be a good method for oversize tires for off-road performance then. Thanks.
Would 962 20x10 clear the front fenders on a lowered f250 crew

I have a 1500 Silverado 08 and want to put 33x12.50 R22 what lift should I get or set up?
Joel, check our gallery out for fitment help to get 33x12.5's to fit! bit.ly/2gcBNE2
2 inches should be good if you are on road only. 4 inches if you go off road
Some people prefer the look of stretch not really a mistake but preference man! 🤘🏼
@@CustomOffsetsTV , It is a mistake as it creates undue stress on the sidewalls. But that's ok, because most of the guys that lift their trucks are not up to safety anyway.
Awesomely informative video
Can you please do a Nissan Titan
Can somebody help me ?¿
I’m trying to fit some
33’s with negative 43 offset on a Nissan Xterra 2000 (stock suspension)
