I honestly think it is important to understand each other’s needs as males and females…We’re wired differently which makes our needs differ. Hubby and I read this other book where the needs of males/females were explained. Some of the things the author highlighted was that Man needs sex vs women needs affection, men needs DOMESTIC SUPPORT vs women needs FINANCIAL SUPPORT…however, I strongly believe that the only man that should give a woman money is a HUSBAND. Myles Menroe actually said that; when a woman gets married, her father hands her over to her new father being the groom(husband) and that act means that the father is saying “you continue where I left off” as a result a woman never leaves his father but she’s given another father being the husband. Hence the Bible says “a man will leaves his father and mother” but it says nothing about the woman. And if we take it back to scripture we see that before God could give Adam a wife He gave him a garden (land)…however, I feel like if any girl(girlfriend) feels entitled to ask for money they should just go ask their fathers because ba e karabella ho bona I hope I made sense🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️
I'm definitely all for heart🙋♀️ a man of Character, just because someone currently doesn't have a lot of money doesn't mean that the circumstances won't change. I think also a man that loves you will spoil you with the little they have so its not just about the splurging. I always say I'd choose love over money any day. (not poverty though😏)

In response to Phetola, I used to be all about character and heart. It turned out bad, the man's ego just made the relationship unbearable because he was wasn't making much, a lot less actually. So yes the heart and character are prerequisites but for my own sanity from my experience I'd really appreciate a man who can provide. Not saying we must be in the same financial status but he must be comfortable as well in what he is making that he can still take care of me and our home. But yes good character must be there, I certainly dont want to be with someone who has the security without the character either, infact without the character I'd prefer I stay single.
Honestly, l am still attracted to heart, character and good values etc. Within these 4 years of marriage, we have had swaps 3 to 4 times where earned more than my husband and where he earned more than me and it has not changed how we treat and value each other. I have never felt like l had to respect him more when he was doing or less. Provide out of love not out of power hunger. My only worry with these allowances is the abuse that women hold on to because they don't know how to live without the other person.

What happened to "what is yours is mine, what is mine is yours"? How about a joint account, so that an allowance doesn't even have to be discussed.
I think girlfriend and wife allowance are two different things and two separate topics that needed an episode each. The wife allowance , like Lerato was saying a husband will plant a seed and hopes it’s good soil to bear good fruits but how can you do the same with a girlfriend. Yes you can take your girlfriend out for lunch , buy her flowers or go on holiday. But as for girlfriend allowance I do not agree. And this thing starts at home, I remember growing up if my dad would see something that is foreign and he doesn’t remember buying it for me, I would be cross questioned until it lends up in the bin. And that taught me to be independent, I still find it hard to ask money from my husband.

For me personally, I know for a fact that the characteristics, values and principles that I’m looking for in a man would never put bread on the table. I AM ATTRACTED TO POWER/MONEY. Obviously love , respect, support, submission etc is there but bathong our bond amongst other things needs to be paid. Fam yazi what’s boring Ka allowance is that people demand a rate that will make them show off. And it shouldn’t be like that. You shouldn’t give them an amount that would place you guys in a cold situation the next day. This is such an eye opening conversation. I’m in agreement with Lerato when you explain the giving nature of a man and the receiving nature of a woman, the psychology behind it! When Phetho describes the feeling she gets when she receives money from you, and how it makes you feel, proves this point correct. I agree with Phetola about the word “allowance “being revised.For me allowance screams entitlement and makes it sound like relationships are now suppose to be transactional, and for me this kinda take away the very essence of a relationship.I understand maybe what we actually saying is not actually what we mean,maybe the underlying thing is really protection as Lerato said ,however the rong choice of word and maybe in some case the energy behind the intentions of this girlfriend allowance notion is what is causing a friction between men and women .Where the is no sense of freedom of choice ,some people are bound to resist or rebel.I myself as a woman I don’t operate well in situations where I feel my sense of freedom to choose is not allowed,I realise that I am my best self where i am free to be and I guess maybe this applies to some.

I think girlfriend and wife allowance are two different things and two separate topics that needed an episode each. The wife allowance , like Lerato was saying a husband will plant a seed and hopes it’s good soil to bear good fruits but how can you do the same with a girlfriend. Yes you can take your girlfriend out for lunch , buy her flowers or go on holiday. But as for girlfriend allowance I do not agree. And this thing starts at home, I remember growing up if my dad would see something that is foreign and he doesn’t remember buying it for me, I would be cross questioned until it lends up in the bin. And that taught me to be independent, I still find it hard to ask money from my husband.

Honestly speaking if a man has pride though having money, I cannot take it. I cannot stand a man who has pride or rather who uses money as a source of power, nope I cannot take that. Much more than money, a man should be kind, be humble yet having powerful character of the man. As much as finances are important, KINDNESS moves me, HUMILITY moves me, GOD FEARING CHARACTER MOVES ME.
I honestly am for Character and the Heart. I struggle so much to ask money from a Man so money doesn't really get me lured to a Man. Also I have come to understand why I struggle to ask money from a Man and that can be both good and bad depending on the intention. Your childhood trauma can also cause this and you become this independent Woman that may end up making you think you dont need a Man. I think the best foundation to start a relationship is to go back to the word, Genesis where Adam was put in the garden before Eve, thats the basis of a good relationship and better outlines the purpose of a Man and Woman in a relationship

Personally, there is a need for balance.
As women we are attracted to power, which comes with money. That and character shouldn't be mutually exclusive but ke since it most of the time is we then choose the character.
