I recently bought a Homedepot rental 6x8 utility trailer. These are Anderson trailers, they are heavy duty and well made, top of the line. Phenomenal purchase and at a price point lower then one of those 12" tire trailers. The trailer itself is fully functioning, yes it has wear on it but it is in fantastic shape. Very nice & thought out video, thank you. I will be considering buying one as well in the future. Fortunately, It appears that Home Depot choose a good quality manufacturer in providing them with good, heavy duty utility trailer rentals That's good to know when deciding where to pick a good used one, & why not? Curious what part of the country you are located in? I've had dozens of people post comments that I should sell the "pine straw", but it's unheard of in the PNW to use it as landscape material.
@@deltabravo1257 I was about to post the same thing when I seen you dumping it. Here in north georgia alot of people use needles instead of mulch. Not me, I prefer mulch. But I bet you dumped $300 -400 dollars away, lol, I dont like it becasue it doesnt add any thing to the soil. Also if you get leaves in it you have to recover cause its hard to get out.
Very expensive for a used (and abused) trailer. I would love to have one, but at that price you can get close to some new trailers with similar options.
@@deltabravo1257 I guess, but seems way over built for pine needles (or other normal homeowner projects). The one at the end of the video for sale had rust so it would need to be repowdercoated, and a Torsion suspension is a nice thing to have and you could add it to other trailers and still be close cost wise. I not saying it a bad deal, just that for a older used trailers I was expecting a $500 to $800 price tag and was shocked how high the trailer was you looked at for sale.
Thsnks for the video. I enjoyed watching. that's cool you bought a HD trailer. And it seems a regular car can haul it too. I like the heavy dudu build quality.😀
Wow !!!! I'm actually kind of shocked and impressed that a video about buying Home Depot Utility Trailer has almost a half million views in just over a year !!! Yeah, how I crossed paths with this video is this... I'm about to do a move from Chicago-land to Casper, Wyoming !!! and I was checking Uhaul basic trailers and the prices just floored me !!! about $300 for a one way trip !!! I would rather make 2-3 trips via minivan before I pay that much just to move some storage bins... so, thus, me looking for other possibilities..... yeah, I think they determine the price / cost from the zipcode.... I know storage units use that method of pricing.... yeah, makes me want to move to Wyoming even more !!! I'm done with all this nickel and diming to death.... rents are like $1300 per month plus utilities !!! annnd for parking !!!! yeah, I'm paying $50 a month just to park my vehicle... when it should be freakin FREE !!!! yep, I'm wayyyy over due for me to get the F out of here !!! Take care everyone !!!! Oscar
The views this video has gotten have been skyrocketing since early March. Prior to March 5th, there was only several thousand view. The prices U-Haul charges are insane for one-way trailer rentals. They charge my $188 after tax to rent a car hauler for a 300 mile trip.
Are they still selling those? Can't find anything in NY/NJ/CT/PA states... Need to move to Canada soon and this trailer seems to be one of few that offer high walls.
Yes, they do still sell them. They keep them for 5 years before selling them to replace with a new one. I always check the manufacturer date on the VIN Tag on the trailers at my local stores to get an idea of when they will be up for sale.
It's a little known secret. It requires some digging on Home Depot's website to discover the tools and equipment they surplus out of their rental inventory and sell.
@@deltabravo1257 Yeah, I was there to rent a jamb saw for 35 bucks and realized they had a used one for 75 bucks. It works great and I didn’t have to rush to cut all my jambs in one day.
You can buy used U-haul trailers also. Just checked the Home depot web site, local store has a 5 x8 for $438.00 plus lots of power tools for various prices.
I had one of those and i didn't like the torsion axle. I now have a single leaf spring axle, and it can haul about double of what yours can. It actually rides better then the torsion axles do also. The biggest advantage to yours is the sheet metal floor. No other trailers come with that.
Thanks for sharing. Either style axle at a given load rating will carry the same load. If your trailer "carries double of what mine can" it must be a tandem axle trailer. Small trailer trailers such as this almost always have a 3500lb axle. Their weight rating (GVWR) is limited to 2990 so the trailer manufacturer can avoid putting trailer brakes on them.
I guess I did good on my 80 in x 10ft trailer I got from my work. It’s a heavy duty tandem axle 2 3500 pound axles I got for 115. It needed work but so far I got about 500 ish into it but still made out on what trailers go for. A lot of what I put into it was not needed, just upgrades. It was probably well over 2000 new. Not no cheap big box store trailer, it has a center support in the A frame too.
That ain't chit. I got a beautiful ex-rental trailer that was 6 months old and had been rented out only 3 times, looked brand new, tandem axle, all aluminum, and I paid 10 bucks for it.
that one is safe design …. but be aware of other unsafe models by home depot i rented a 5x8 utility trailer to haul a riding mower itsthose ramps are super heavy and there was no stop poits to prevent ramps from falling backward into the trailer almost cut my hand grabbing the ramp it was the way the steel mesh welded on top with sharp side and secondly on pin to secure ramps had poor cotter pins that would drop out causing the steel pin to pops out and one ramp fell down scrapping along the road pavement im never renting it from home depot i liked tractor supply store rental trailer very safe desgin 5x8
Should of sprung for the dumper model! I’m not a fan of torsion suspension anytime I see a trailer with wheels bowed out it’s a torsion bar, great score it is built heavy duty and overall beefy trailer for the price.
Home depot had a nice 5x8 dump trailer for sale about a year ago. I am kicking myself for not buying it. It wasn't beat up, smashed up or abused like the bigger dump trailers are.
I bought one just like it for $1,000.00 at Home Depot. I had contacted the home depot rental manager and asked them to call me when one came available. could not beat the price and it looked better than the one u are showing.
$1250 isn't a bad price, even factoring in another $250-500 for bearings or maybe hubs and tires or wheels/tires and perhaps a few other smaller things. I bet they go pretty fast around me and are quite rusty from salt (New England). Used trailers hold their value very well here, I ended up buying both of mine new.
Nice vid. It’s was more of a review vid than a how to buy vid. That’s the reason I came lol wanted to hear about the process of buying it. How much it cost and stuff like that
Sadly, when I search for HD trailers, it sends me to Ritchie Brother’s auction site. The HD website has all their rental hand tools that are listed for sale.
Trailers show up occasionally, but keep in mind that each store only has 2-3 trailers and they keep them for 5 years from what I've seen. They only get sold off and replaced on a 5 year cycle. I check my area every few weeks. No trailers have been listed for sale since at the stores near me I bought mine in 2018. I don't expect their current fleet to be listed for sale until 2023.
Inside dimensions of this trailer are 58" x 98" Price will vary depending on the location of the Home Depot and the brand trailers they have. I've seen prices range from $1250-$1500
Follow the screen shots at 9:28 in the video, which shows you how to see if they have of in their "used tools for sale" inventory. Look under "Moving Supplies" category.
The trailer is built somewhat similar to the older UHaul trailers ,I wouldn’t be too surprised if they were either designed or built by the same people I will say Torsion axles are better than leaf spring for a smoother ride but it’s not really relevant for cargo and utility trailers because of their type of contents that are hauled with them sure hauling small trailers with leaf springs without a load will get noisy and airborne at times but that doesn’t really matter much I’ve had many small boat trailers that made lots of noise empty but it didn’t hurt anything , besides I pull them in my 3500 Dually Diesel pick up that is bouncy and noisy on its own a lot of times the trailers spitting grease out of the hubs is because they were overgreased very common if trailers have Bearing Buddies when that grease gets hot it expands and i’ve seen that blow the Bearing caps or Buddies clean off the trailer on highways because it is spinning so many RPMs higher than the tire it will hit the pavement and shoot in front of the tow vehicle
You've got that backwards. The tread on the tire is experiencing a LOT more speed than the bearings because the bearings are close to the point of rotation, where the tire tread is far out there and moving much faster for every turn of the wheel.
I'm having trouble with California DMV they want me to show them the the title and the store said with the bill of sale and the registration page was enough for change of ownership. Trying to contact corporate LEAN HOLDER DEPARTMENT that it shows on the registration. What did you have to do?
The store should have given you the title. The stores used to keep the titles on hand, but the trailer I bought a few weeks ago, that was not the case. The titles are now held by a Fleet Management company called ELEMENT. The store needs to call that company and get the title from them. The store is incorrect by telling you that the bill of sale and registration is sufficient for transfer of ownership - that is NEVER correct. You ALWAYS need the title too, which the seller signs saying they sold the item.
Thanks I also found that information by making several calls to their home office and the store. Now I may need to make several calls also to get the ball rolling. But at least I found a trailer and it's at my house needed lights stop., turn... bearing were loose just adjusted and packed them today. No lateral play now.
The website hasn't changed. Its the same now as it was 5+ years ago when I bought this trailer. At the top of the website, click on Truck & Tool RENTALS, then scroll down and find a link on the left that says USED TOOLS FOR SALE , it's the third link fro the bottom in the long list on the left side of the page or hit CTRL F on your keyboard to open the search box, and type in FOR SALE and hit enter and your computer will search the web page for that block of text. Click that link, then type in your zip code when the new page opens up
In the PNW, no one uses pine needles (pine straw as some commenters have called it) as garden / landscape mulch. I'd never heard of doing that until people started mentioning it in the comments on this video.
it is built pretty well what do they sell them for ? yes i agree Torsion Axles are better but on the other hand of smoothness in the ride i concluded on my last Enclosed trailer with a Torsion axle is the smoothness of the ride wasn’t that important because i didn’t ride in it so what’s the big deal so it really isn’t worth the extra cost i paid $1250 is a great deal on those trailers compared to most of the other ones around
Was thinking about a truck bed trailer til I saw u can buy these.... can't find Them available near me tho... the hunt continues. 💯😎 cool video too... keep on keepin on.
They get surplussed every 5 years. Check the stores near you and look at the their fleet of rentals and check the build date on the VIN tag on the front left corner, that will tell you how old the trailers are then you can get an idea of when they will come up for sale.
I went in to rent a 1” pex crimper and they had one with the rental price I’d seen online and another one for a few dollars more. I asked the store employee why the difference in price. She said it is three years old and that’s the price I can buy it at. I guess a visit to the rental section might get a bargain on a lightly used tool.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy hand tools from the rental department again, but probably not a gas powered tool. I bought a used up Honda EU2000, I never could get it running correctly. A new carb probably would have fixed it, but I sold it before I was able to get the carb installed.

The trailer I have has a model number of 5x8U. It's shown here: besttrailerinc.com/utility-trailer/ All 3 Home Depot stores in my area still rent these. At least two of the stores have two in their rental fleet. 6x8 is a very odd trailer size. I've never seen a 6x8 trailer for sale on any trailer dealer's lot. Ever. @@deltabravo1257 Damn that would be long drive for me to get the trailer, but honestly, I might do it since I cannot get the one you have here. Sorry about your well, what happen to it?
I only use a trailer a few times a year, so I couldn't justify the price the new trailers cost. Better price, and not all beat up like most used trailers are in the private party sales venues (Craigslist, etc.) made this one is a good value
I’ve owned my for 4 years and minus replacing the tires a couple mounts of go(they didn’t need it but we were going on a 3000 miles round trip so I wanted new ones) which were only 60 dollars each the tabs are 18 dollars a year and some grease a few times a year the ownership has been pretty minor. Best part is the trailer is always available no more driving into town to rent it. Or not being able to rent one cause they don’t have any in at the time you need it. Plus if you find something you want to buy and haul after store has closed your no longer out of luck. Lot more pros than cons

The Best website is a bit lacking as far as info goes. Can you point be in the right direction? Mine was built in 2017 and is identical to yours. Much appreciated! Chip Olympia, WA
Bearings and seals for 3500lb trailer axles are a common size. Trailer manufacturers generally don't list the bearings specs since they buy the axles pre-assembled. Bearings specs would be part of the axle manufacturers info. These are Dexter Axles. I've updated the description with all of the bearings and associated parts. You can also get the bearings from McGuire Bearings and Brown Bearings. The closest McGuire bearing is in Tacoma.
Went to my local HD and they wouldn't sell it to be because they didn't have the title. I guess they are trying to get it. Did you have any issues getting the title? Great Vid BTW
I didn’t have any issues with the title. Fortunately, my local store had the title in their possession. I’ve heard that often times they don’t have the title and need to get it from Compact Power, which is the name of the company that owns and manages the trailers.
Thanks for sharing - I hadn't thought of Home Depot used equipment before - looks like they may be a good option for a trailer to tow behind our RV to carry our motorcycle. Thanks!
You bet! The nice thing about these trailers is the torsion axle - the ride so much smoother than a leaf spring axle, especially when loaded with lighter cargo. It won't beat your motorcycle to death. I own three torsion axle trailers, this one and two enclosed cargo trailers. I won't own a leaf spring trailer again.
The store by me had one for sale, sold it, the lady had title issues, returned it. They could not get a new title for around 9 months, each month the price dropped. It got all the way down to $200 dollars. Ended up selling it for $600.

DB, this is a really nice heavy duty trailer. It would be ideal for hauling about anything. It would be great for homesteaders wanting to haul small livestock (pigs, hogs, sheep, goats). For that very reason, I may consider one. Thanks for the informative video. 👍🏽🙂
WA State law says "15 days". After 15 days, the state will start charging you a late fee at the point in time when you finally transfer the title, which I think maxes out at $125. This particular Home Depot made me transfer the title before letting me take possession of the trailer.
Right about 11:55 in the video you can see the sticker showing the GVWR at 2,999 and the GAWR at 3,500. 1,750 is half the GAWR and if I was renting equipment to the general public, I would tell them the limit was much lower than it actually is too. Most don’t know how to drive with a trailer, let alone load one correctly. Everyone on the road will be a little safer and I’ll spent a lot less time repairing equipment and in court.
On the Home Depot website it does not look anything like the one that you have up it doesn’t show that information you might wanna go onto a website today and take a look. Thanks
Where are you looking on the website? When I check here (in their rental fleet) I see one exactly like the one I bought: www.homedepot.com/c/moving_supplies_equipment_rental#trailers
No, they don't. Also, a dual axle trailer is overkill for a SxS. That much weight capacity isn't needed for a SxS. All you need is a single axle (3500lb axle) trailer.
I've always wanted to buy a similar one from the U Haul fleet. They have some extra features for hauling motorcycles in theirs, like a bump-out in the front wall for the front wheel. And a corrugated floor that helps keep the bike form sliding from side to side. But they claim they never sell them, just scrap them when they're too old. They say they're worried that the next owner might come back at them with liability issues. I've also heard that's why you can't buy used UPS trucks as well. They'd rather scrap them than than take the risk of selling them.
The LIABILITY ISSUE is total BULLSHIT ! The corporate lawyers SHOULD be able to find a way past it. Once it's sold out of the fleet , it's NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
YES! I ALWAYS ask for a better price, and they always drop it. Their computer system (in the tool rental department) will actually have a "bottom line" price shown.

Glad it was helpful! What I'm seeing is that they use the trailers for 5 years and then surplus them.
Where I live, pine straw mulch sells for $5 a small square bale.
Except they don't have a powder coat finish, not built as well and don't have a torsion axle. The one I bought is in very good condition.
I thought that was spokane home depot. And the waste tranfer station looked familiar too. Then i noticed spokane on the home depot site.
Yep. :-)
Also worth noting the N. Spokane store has one fore sale again right now. It got listed for sale on 10/31/22
Thsnks for the video.
I always check the manufacturer date on the VIN Tag on the trailers at my local stores to get an idea of when they will be up for sale.
im in the same boat, how did you make out? any luck?
I bought another one about 3 weeks ago.
Didn’t know you could buy used trailers from Home Depot. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
It's a little known secret. It requires some digging on Home Depot's website to discover the tools and equipment they surplus out of their rental inventory and sell.

Yeah, I was there to rent a jamb saw for 35 bucks and realized they had a used one for 75 bucks. It works great and I didn’t have to rush to cut all my jambs in one day.
@@deltabravo1257 I'm looking on HD's website and can't find used trailer sales. Can you direct me to where to look on the site?
You can buy used U-haul trailers also. Just checked the Home depot web site, local store has a 5 x8 for $438.00 plus lots of power tools for various prices.
@@terrydouglas5008 I checked HD's site again today, I can't find used tools or trailers. Can you direct where to click please?
@Dr Pepper Kev I have a trailer that weighs in at 11,000 empty, 21,000 loaded and rides on torsion axles. It rides beautifully.
Sounds like a nice trailer
@@deltabravo1257 Thank you. It is, If it went to auction it probably would of went for a lot more. Since I wanted it I got hooked up with the price.
Cool,I love tss
What a well built little unit.
Yes, it is a well built little trailer.
What is the small pipe for in front of the right side fender on the brace at 6:15? Anyone know?
My best guess is that the storage for the registration.
Storage for vehicle registration is my guess as well.
At 10:30 you can see a piece of pipe on the trailer just in front of the right fender.. Any idea what that's for???
Registration holder. I finally made another video and mention that annoying pipe.

That's a good deal. I've never seen them for less than the one for $1250 I show at the end of the video.
A few minor maintenance items and they are a decent trailer.
Nice vid. It’s was more of a review vid than a how to buy vid. That’s the reason I came lol wanted to hear about the process of buying it. How much it cost and stuff like that
Info on how to buy is towards the end of the video.
@@deltabravo1257 good to know. Our local HD is a small one, so I don’t know that they have everything the bigger ones do, but I’ll keep watch. Thanks.

Just bought a trailer like this today about 1400 ... cant beat the price got it to haul stuff to the dump also haul a motorcycle around
AWESOME! I use mine for dump runs (yard waste) and motorcycles too.
I need one of these for my utv
This size would work for an ATV, but they are too short and too narrow for a UTV.
What is the little pipe on the outer frame rail just forward of the right side tire. Yours has a plastic cap on it.
It's to hold the license / registration paperwork from the DMV.
Im trying to buy one how do i check if homedepot removed it from there system?
Ditto on the dually - Mine is rough riding as well. Rancho RS9000XL shocks dialed down to the soft setting helps when I'm not towing / hauling.
I can't find the trailers on the website because the websites probably been changed and updates many times now.

Home Depot in Eastern WA.
You should use that for your garden as cover up around the plant so it act as like mulch kept the soil moist
In the PNW, no one uses pine needles (pine straw as some commenters have called it) as garden / landscape mulch. I'd never heard of doing that until people started mentioning it in the comments on this video.
Looks like you go to the same dump as me in North Spokane and also looks like the Home Depot in North Spokane
Yep, Small world!
As soon as I seen the scales I knew where you were at. That good or bad?
it is built pretty well what do they sell them for ? yes i agree Torsion Axles are better but on the other hand of smoothness in the ride i concluded on my last Enclosed trailer with a Torsion axle is the smoothness of the ride wasn’t that important because i didn’t ride in it so what’s the big deal so it really isn’t worth the extra cost i paid $1250 is a great deal on those trailers compared to most of the other ones around
It really is a nice upgrade having a Torsion axle. The cargo doesn't bounce around like it does in a leaf spring trailer.
Is that pipe with the white cap on the right side of the tongue A-frame where the blinker fluid goes?
I think so. LOL.
Actually it's for the trailer registration paperwork.
Was thinking about a truck bed trailer til I saw u can buy these.... can't find

They get surplussed every 5 years. Check the stores near you and look at the their fleet of rentals and check the build date on the VIN tag on the front left corner, that will tell you how old the trailers are then you can get an idea of when they will come up for sale.
@@deltabravo1257 thank you Very much i will definitely look at the stores near me.

Hi there! What is the model for this trailer? I think HD does not carry this 5x8 trailers anymore, instead they have 6x8 :-/ Thank you!
The trailer I have has a model number of 5x8U. It's shown here: besttrailerinc.com/utility-trailer/

6x8 is a very odd trailer size. I've never seen a 6x8 trailer for sale on any trailer dealer's lot. Ever.
The width is too wide in relation to the length. 6 wide trailers always start at 10' long.

I’ve also seen that Ohio Steel makes trailers for Home Depot.
5 years later, I still have the one in the video. I use it weekly to haul a water tank for my house water because my well crapped out 2 years ago.

I could use one of those a couple of times a year!
I only use a trailer a few times a year, so I couldn't justify the price the new trailers cost. Better price, and not all beat up like most used trailers are in the private party sales venues (Craigslist, etc.) made this one is a good value
So rent it🤷♂️. Why bother owning it. License, storage and maintenance doesn’t end after purchase.

Bearings and seals for 3500lb trailer axles are a common size. Trailer manufacturers generally don't list the bearings specs since they buy the axles pre-assembled. Bearings specs would be part of the axle manufacturers info. These are Dexter Axles. I've updated the description with all of the bearings and associated parts.
You can also get the bearings from McGuire Bearings and Brown Bearings. The closest McGuire bearing is in Tacoma.
Thank you!

I would mulch them. trees drop needles so they will decompose and give the nutrients back to the tree.

Does Home Depot rent hydraulic dump trailers also???
Some stores do rent hydraulic dump trailers. I've even found the retired ones for sale, but that's been at least a year ago.
The store by me had one for sale, sold it, the lady had title issues, returned it. They could not get a new title for around 9 months, each month the price dropped. It got all the way down to $200 dollars. Ended up selling it for $600.

do you think this will hold a pallet of sod
I'm not sure how heavy a pallet of sod is. If it's no more than 2300 pounds, it will. These trailers weight about 1200
DB, this is a really nice heavy duty trailer. It would be ideal for hauling about anything. It would be great for homesteaders wanting to haul small livestock (pigs, hogs, sheep, goats). For that very reason, I may consider one. Thanks for the informative video. 👍🏽🙂
We agree!
It looks like that website only offers rental not to buy used ones. but I’ll keep looking around. Thanks
You have to follow the steps shown towards the end of this video which show how to find them on the Home Depot Website.
I know states will vary, but how long of a grace period did you have, after purchase, to get the trailer registered for a tag? Thanks.
WA State law says "15 days". After 15 days, the state will start charging you a late fee at the point in time when you finally transfer the title, which I think maxes out at $125.
This particular Home Depot made me transfer the title before letting me take possession of the trailer.
Hey DB,
I saw the 3,000GVW do you know what the trailer weight is?
Weight is 1000 lbs
1,750 lbs seems like a low rating for that trailer.... I wonder if they do that for insurance liability reasons

Why don't you burn the pine needles?
Creates too much smoke, plus I live in a dry climate where burning yard waste is not safe.
Does Home Depot sell a dual axial trailer that would be large enough for a small side by side?

The liability issue makes sense.
The LIABILITY ISSUE is total BULLSHIT ! The corporate lawyers SHOULD be able to find a way past it. Once it's sold out of the fleet , it's NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
