You definitely got a bargain. Will be going to tractor supply here in Illinois and see if they care this particular trailer. It would be great to use here around our property for the same reason you got it. Have a larger trailer for the highway. But I have one question, could you show in a future video the way you have the hitch on the back of your cub cadet, I have the same lawn tractor and all I have is a small hole down at the bottom and I would like to see how you configurated the hitch on your tractor
Bought ours last year to haul our ATV. Added wheel chock tie downs to secure it since my ratchet straps pulled on the side rails. So far, works great for our needs
I own that exact trailer picked it up for $999 at the TSC last year. I use it for my lawn care business It hauls my two Honda HRC mowers 3 Stihl String Trimmers, Edger and BackPack blower and fuel cans. I Spent more on the accessories than the trailer itself...Sure beats loading it up in the bed of my truck as I am getting older in mid 50's and that was getting to be a little bit of a chore.
I was looking to purchase a utility trailer last June researched and shopped around and ended up with Karavan 5-1/2’ x 9’ with dovetail rear from tractor supply it is a very well built solid trailer
I have a similar trailer. Built up the sides, put a toolbox on it, it’s my go to for everything. I’ve hauled wood, log splitter, lumber, and more with it. So versatile.
I own a bigger version of that trailer. Mine came with a tongue jack, premium wheels. My sides fold down on hinges like a tail gate. We use ours to haul our water buffalo for our remote garden. I added tie down attachments. I purchased mine from Home Depot for $950 2 years ago. I pull mine around with my Massey Ferguson GC1720TLB, my Suzuki King Quad 700, or my wife's SUV. I have pulled it with my Ram 3500, but it did look a little funny. Lol
Just the fact that you can load it from all sides is great. Like you I have several trailers but none that I can load from all sides. Another great video. Thanks.
Have this EXACT same trailer. Purchased at Tractor Supply for that great $999 price! I bought it to haul my Yamaha XT250 dual sport motorcycle around. Upgrades completed so far: Coupler handle to make it easier to move around, water sealed the wood deck, LED taillights, ST145R12 radial tires and spare (balanced), E-Track motorcycle chock mounts (up to 2 bikes can be hauled), D-rings bolted to the deck. Fantastic little trailer!
I bought a 6x8 Utility trailer at tractor Supply 13 years ago and still have it to this day and impressed how well it has held up. It had a front A frame and 2 inch pipe top tube rails. For the first 4-5 years of its life it hauled my zero turn mower on a daily basis. I have since upgraded to a bigger trailer as my company has grown but still love this trailer and don't plan on ever selling it. The original price was $999 but I was able to get it for $700 because some of the lights did not work. I upgraded all the lights to LED and fixed the wiring issue for less than $100.
I picked up a used SureTrac 5 by 8 flat bed trailer over 20 years ago. I built removable sides with one by treated lumber. About 4 years ago, I stripped it down because the frame was starting to rust, had it sand blaster and powder coated purple. I rebuilt sides. It works great for moving small light loads. I also have another 5 by 10 SureTrac trailer to carry my zero turn. It’s a solid trailer. I paid $ 14:48 1800 about 5 years ago.
I purchased a 4x8 Haul-Master at Harbor Freight about 4 years ago, for about $400.00 when it was on sale. It has a 1720 weight capacity on it and I used the heck out out of it. The thing I loved about it is folds in half for easy storage. I made stake sides for it so I can but more stuff on it, and added D-rings, and added a spare tire mount on it. The Only Down side was the instructions I had IKEA furniture instructions that were user to read and understand than what came with the trailer. Lost assembly required came in 3 boxes.
I have a trailer problem too. I think I have 5 at the moment. My favorite, which gets used weekly, is the orange Home Depot surplussed rental trailer. The video on that trailer has the highest views on my channel.
I need new tires, fenders, and to rewire the lights on my 5x10 motorcycle trailer. Thanks for the video and looking forward to doing my upgrades this spring.
I have the larger version. The only drawback I have found is the plastic caps where the latches meet the corners. They wear out and loosen the connection, fast. I contacted Karavan and they sent me several replacement caps for free. The material used in the cap needs to be much thicker.
Get the folks over at E-Trailer to send you a new Demco coupler and new wheels! That trailer was really well priced. I didn't know Tractor Sppply sold them - I've only seen them at Home Depot, and I always felt they were priced too high at HD.
I have a larger version of that trailer and it's great. The only thing is the ramp is already getting damaged because it's not that strong. And I have only loaded a side-by-side on it
The fact that you can pull the ramp off is great. My brothers trailer you can’t do that with and there has been several times it would have come in very handy to have when loading and unloading. Also I’m not so sure that I could get my mower on there with the ramp so short.
going to have to check these out in the market for something maybe 10 x 6 for my aluminum scrap for my Gutter business. Wouldn’t have even thought to look at tractor supply. Wow look them up and a 6 x 10 in the same trailer is $3000.
I used to have a gutter business back in the 80s , I never got the machine that pumps out the aluminum gutter but had a guy locally that would pump them out on site , I would charge $5.00 a foot back then ( which included taking down the old wooden one ,and $2.00 a foot on the drainpipes ( $20 for a ten foot drainpipe including the elbows and straps ).. I’m curious if you wouldnt mind telling me what ya get per foot these days ??
Picked this one up last June to help with a move and its done very well. I almost didn't buy it because I was worried the sides would get play or become flimsy but so far still very solid. I am still expecting to accidently break one of the plastic fenders at some point but hasn't happened yet.
We buy and resell trailer for over 15 years and the solid build quality and durability of this karavan 5x8 trailers its way better than other. The main frame and rear gate its build with square tube and the top its build with square&tubular tube, not angle iron like other box store trailer plus the light cables on karaban trailers its wheather seal and all cables run inside the frame. Our personal small trailer was the 5x8 Carry on version for a long time and its do the job, but when we try the karavan model we see the diferent all the way and now its our main personal use everyday trailer to delivery golf cart atv appliance ect. We add a electric winch and reinforce the gate and now its the perfect toy hauler. Everybody go have his personal opinions abouth trailers but for us the best small light duty trailer on the market right now its this litter karavan trailer. ( Also the “A” frame tongue version of this trailer its also more stable)
Hey jd I work at TSC in Tomball and our trailers are pretty good in all honesty and we have a pretty wide selection of hitches and toolboxes as you probably know would love to see you review some of our stuff or maybe just come by and visit
Bought same trailer as a replacement of the same size and manufacture Karavan. I have a small engine business, moving all kinds of equipment, tractors, mover and snow equipment. LED LIGHTING changes with work light in front to load equipment, on a switch off running lights since you would normally have this on at night anyway. LED WORK lights low profile that match the front rail in diameter as to not look stupid. I have found that the paint looks good but doesn't hold up well, paint popping at all weld locations , clearly didn't treat those areas before painting. Just a heads up, but yes nice trailer, light weight.
This use case might be obscure 😆 - but with utility trailers I’ve always hated how you need to hook it up or grab some crates to shove under the back to use the ramp/walk on the back. Sometimes you want to load or unload when it’s not hooked up. I’ve thought about using RV stabilizers/jacks. You either need somewhere to put the crank tool for manual ones or have onboard power for electric ones.
They are a decent trailer. The only thing that kept me from buying the same trailer was the bolt on, latching style, round top rails. I needed angle iron style rails for how I use a trailer. I drag it around my yard behind my Polaris Ranger and use it for yard cleanup. Speaking of which, a Ranger would be an awesome tool around your property!
On account of your four pin problem your best bet is splicing in a four pin and mounting it under the bumper with a cover. That’s what we have done and we have not needed a conversion plug since.
I bought a Carry-on 5x8 GW series trailer that is similar to this on sale for $899 at Lowes. It is the wood deck version so the trailer is rigid. Personally, I don't like the fact that the sides are movable, especially with no tie down points from the factory and (currently) priced at $1200 at both Home Depot and Tractor Supply. Otherwise I really like the quality of the Karavans. The Carry-on trailer I have is good enough for me and my personal uses. By the way, I work in the commercial transportation industry. This is the first time I've seen lights on the tongue of the trailer. I know for a fact those lights will corrode inside that metal tube, the same happens on the 53ft reefer trailers I work on.
Lowering the side is a nice concept and to be honest that's what sold me on it in the spring of 2023. However, I would never by another one because in less than 12 months time, the rust has been moving in like a rapid moving cancer.
Do the current leaf springs sit over the axle, and can they be made to run under, to bring the deck a bit lower? I have a zero turn that I need to haul 3 or 4 times a year, borrowing a similar trailer from my neighbor. But it gets hung up on the break-over from the ramp to the deck.

I was just at HD today after church, the one you showed, the rails slide sideways and straight tongue listed for $998. The A-frame trailer, the rails fold down and lists for $1198

Yes it’s nice cosmetically and what not but money is money. Put what you’re estimating for that trailer for upgrades into something else.
