    Dude! Thank you for this video, I went to the hardware store and grabbed a $2.50 key blank and it freed up the cylinder! I was ready to drill it out, you saved me big time. I appreciate the content!

      @@michaeltucker4037 My issue was a badly worn key. I've been using on of my other unused key I got when I bought Sequoia. So, for those out there, before panicking, compare the key to an unused key to see if it's badly worn before tearing things apart. All is good.

    Before going through any of this or drilling out and removing the ignition try one of your unused keys if you have one. It worked for me.
    I just experienced the same problem the last 2 days; both times away from home. Initially, I thought it was because the steering wheel had locked in an odd way but the 2nd time I was leaving a party and it would not turn so I did a google and bam this is what I got. I finally got the key to turn and hauled ass home. I got home and it happened again. Today, I pulled out one of my other ignition keys that have never been used and compared it to the used key and noticed the used key is badly worn. I used one of the unused keys and bam the truck started. I hope it was just a worn key and not the ignition (so far it's promising). If I have to I will remove and replace the ignition. I will update if things changes. I will keep this video in the vault.

      It was a worn key. I've had no issue since using the new key (never used key), however, I did have Toyota program a new key. I tried all of the tricks out there to program the new Toyota key and nothing worked on the Sequoia, so I paid them jokers $146. I did get a 10% military discount.

    Thank you! I dont have a blank but I used my door key, stuck it in and tried to turn it, that didn't work but when I tried the ignition key again it fired right up. Awesome video! Got me out of a bind. Thank you.

      Fixed it in an hour, 04 was slightly different. 2 of the 3 faceplate pins were exposed and lifted out with a pick. Drilled straight through the top one that is hidden and it popped right off. And watch out for the bar lifter peice. It's just sitting at the front and falls right out. Thanks again Ogre. Killed it.

    The little wedge that falls out lifts the steering lock arm so the key can go to acc or ign. Learned that one the hard way. Carquest CSC 1426 is a relatively inexpensive replacement for the whole deal.

    • @johngalan3754

      Just curious, how did you settle on this one? Like you replaced the OEM one with the CSC1426 without any issues and the dimensions were the same?

    Do you know how to disable the LOCK of the steering wheel itself? someone used the truck and didnt know it had to be in PARK to take out the key, they ripped the key out with the selector in D. now its ruined where you can start it and take the key out and it runs. but now? Im told the steering wheel is locking up while driving and thats bad. Im used to older Fords, Chevys not these early 2000s Toyotas. Rather take the steering lock mechanism out completely and fix later to avoid crashing, its a daily driver. Any ideas appreciated.

    Something to note, I removed my ignition lock cylinder and did not have a place where I could drill out the pin. Its possible my lock cylinder was replaced in the past and it's a different model type, but if you try this it would probably only work on an OEM one. Either way, clever and effective

    • @jntzcamacho100
      @jntzcamacho100 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the wire to hold up the bottom of the steering wheel part you have to detach in order for the whole assembly to come off. Includes taking the screws off too with 10mm .there are videos up on TH-cam on how to unattach that wire the correct way

    So after you pound out those rivets and pop that pin out is the snap ring the only thing holding the unit all back together?

    • @OgreMoto
      @OgreMoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, if I recall correctly, yes, the rivets hold the face of the lock on and the snap ring holds the core innards into the sheath. After those are off, it should come out easy.

    If replaced with a new ignition lock cylinder needs to reprogram the key?

    • @OgreMoto
      @OgreMoto  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The new lock cylinder will come with a new key. There’s no programming keys on these trucks only cutting. They’re actually very easy to get started without a key if you know what you’re doing.
