@@tnygmusic The only time you need to replace the key and the switch at the same time is if the key directly interfaces with the switch. In that setup, the key often gets worn down with the switch so that the new switch will not be compatible with the old worn key. I think all models of Ford escape have the little tab sticking out of the end of the key cylinder which interacts with the ignition switch.
Thank you very much. I'm not mechanical, but you made it look so easy, I had to try. It took me about 10 minutes thanks to your easy to follow instructions. Thank you!
YOU SAID: I think all models of Ford escape have the little tab sticking out of the end of the key cylinder which interacts with the ignition switch. I respond: Yes! Mine has the little tab that you speak of. Today I replaced the same part as in the video but while the problem starting STILL exists? It’s just not as bad and the car actually does start way better now. Not like it once did when it was normal but it does start better. So! With all that I shared do you think it’s my key as well?
Just wanted to thank you for this video. I watched another video that said you had to remove the air bag, remove the steering wheel, and grind off some bolts. It was crazy. With your video, I fixed it in like 15 minutes. You are awesome, thanks again.
I never work on cars, but I saw you video this morning when my ignition switch wouldn’t work anymore. You made it look so easy that I tried it for myself. It took about 15 minutes once I got all the tools together. Thanks so much.
Thank you for this video. The push-in method stopped working for me. I bought the part from Amazon for $30 and I replaced it in about 20 minutes. Works perfectly now
Gotta say I watched your video told my boyfriend I can do that myself as well! Turns out he held me to it, and thanks to your video and the step by step process, I was able to do it all on my own! So I do thank you and appreciate the detailed video. Hopefully, that was my issue, but either way, I did it!
Thanks for making this video. I have a 2009 Ford Escape and it was having ignition problems. I ordered a $60 dollar part off of amazon and successfully replaced the switch with the help of this video. Thank you !!!
@@randallgd Hey, I started to experience problems with starting my escape again in about MAY 2024. I think the entier assembly needed to be replaced as I would have to push the key in with some force and turn for it to start. I was also experiencing times when my steering wheel wouldnt unlock when vehicle had started. I then had transmission issues and purchased a tacoma.
Had an exact problem on my 2008 escape. Followed your video and solved my problem. Probably saving me the cost of having a mechanic charge for a 5 min fix. Much thanks 🙏
God bless you bro I had this problem with my 2010 Mazda Tribute and everyone told me I need to change the entire ignition assembly and quoted me 1500-2000$. Even online most ppl said the same thing until I came across this video, tried it and worked out perfect
Thanks a million!! You saved me from paying labor charges. I did it in under 20 minutes with 6 inches nails it's literally that easy!! And the part was inexpensive on Amazon.
Very useful video: Successful part replacement in only 15 minutes. I saved big $$$ from dealer repair and cost me only $42. Thanks friend and To God be the glory.
Thanks for the troubleshooting video. Was able to fix the problem and now I can start my escape with the key instead of using the car starter. Pretty well detailed video. I spent $100 CAD on the part at a parts store because if it wasn't the issue, I wanted to return it. Well worth it because I was able to do it myself.
I seen your other video with the trick and the trick was no longer working on my 2012 escape, thank you so much for this video!! Oreillys had the part for $30 we changed it right there in the parking lot! Thank you sooooo much fr
Thanks a million, your video just saved me $500 bucks which I was charged by a mechanic to fix this issue...😂 I ordered the part on Amazon for $35 plus the 5.5mm screw driver for $22 at a total of $57 and in less than 1 hr I fixed it and car now starts normal Can't thank you enough so I subscribed ❤
Thankyou so much for this video. My 2008 fiesta was starting to take 10+ tries to start everything, was stressing me. Managed to do this replacement myself yesterday, took me a few hours in the end but it worked! Had to jump start the battery but now the key starts every time first time!
Thank you for this video! I watched several stating the whole ignition lockout module would need replaced which requires the steering wheel to be removed. Your solution did not. The ignition switch is part of the module on the left which they did not show as being separate but it was, and cheaper too by ten to two hundred dollars. Did it myself in under two hours. Thanks again!
You saved me bro. I replaced the starter and still nothing. Was about to sell the car, then I replaced this $30 piece and the escape started right up! Thanks again!
Thank you thank you for making this video!!!!! Mine was doing this very thing and I an no mechanic so I was nervous to do this myself but I followed the video step by step and it was super easy and it fixed my problem!!!! You saved me a ton of money!!! You made a fan of your channel for sure!!!❤❤
Thanks for posting this. Only issue I had was snapping the replacement switch in place. Took a bit more pressure than what you indicate, but it eventually snapped in. It is also important before installing to rotate/align the starting mechanism inside the new switch to the rod that extends from the housing on the steering column.
Oh Man, you have no idea how much this helped. My issue is the exact same but on a Mazda Tribute, which is basically a Ford Escape. This video was very well done and explains just what I need to do. Thanks for such a tutorial.
Great, helpful video. Thank you for describing every single step. It’s very important and the least little thing can throw you off but if someone does like you did and makes sure that they include everything it’s so very helpful. Thanks so much!!
I broke a clip because one was stubborn, but thanks for providing the video. Now everyone can start my car again instead of me being the only one that knows how to start it.
Thank you, my man! I bought this 08 of a Buddy It will only start with the remote start. And then I was told these mariners. Have a history of bad Ignition switches. And like you showed me by pushing the key in hard, it will start. I will be sharing this on channel on my channel. I even went so far as to change the starter. You can check out my garage music while you're working At Dana's garage music
YOU ARE DA MAN thank you so much.... All the other vid's I was coming across were saying to yank the whole steering wheel and other components out in order to swap this switch. I wasn't making sense to me really as to why you'd have to remove all that stuff, it just seemed there should have been an easier way and low and behold you've got the answer here.. it's just in time too cause I about to get a gear puller to remove my steering wheel hahahaha but it's not necessary that's for sure. Thanks again it's greatly appreciated
So here's my update.. First off again thanks for the help it was most awesome. Okay so I'm mechanically inclined been working on cars all my life so I knew once I learned how to remove the switch, it wouldn't be a difficult process for me and it wasn't. Anyone watching your vid can do this repair but here's the thing with me. I remove the switch and order a new one and it arrives and in it goes but NO START. I plug the old one back in to the electrical plug hanging out, stick a flathead in, turn it and the truck starts so it wasn't my switch after all. I removed the tumbler and had an allen key that fit inside that d-slot and I turned it but the truck still wouldn't start so It looks like ( at least in my case ) that I'm going to have to replace the whole assembly. For now though your great help allows me to at least drive my truck , although starting it I still have to use the screw driver with the switch that's hanging down. Cheers again from Vancouver Island Canada Tim P.S. If anyone is doing what I'm doing, just remember you still have to turn the key into the one position when you start the truck.
@@GarageBoys I just re-watched your video and something caught my eye that I didn't do and maybe it's "WHY" my truck still isn't starting with the key. You had said here that when you clip the switch back in to have the key in the ignition so that little tit that sticks out aligns properly. I didn't do that so once the rain stops I'm going to give that a shot and hopefully it works and if so I'll post again. It's too bad I can't show a picture on here cause the little tit that sticks out on my truck isn't big and green/yellow in color like yours is, mine is just a much skinnier smaller tit that sticks out Hmmmm wonder if that's got something to do with it
Man, I was about to order and replace the whole ignition switch assembly. There's also a method where a a guy took out the key cylinder and shaved down the inside 1/4 inch so the key could turn more and activate the switch and it worked. I guess there's a couple methods to fix this issue.
Thanks for the video! Does the replacement eventually wear out and result in the same problem? Or does this fix work indefinitely? Would love if someone can weigh in on this
Thank you for this video, about to try and replace mine, this is very helpful! I have a 2005 Ford Escape, was running fine then now starts randomly stalling and sometimes can't even start it (no clicking or anything) and I can't even get a reader to work after that. I've been able to get it going again by disconnecting the battery for a few then reconnecting and then it will run for a few minutes and die again. Sounds perfectly normal when it is running and not seeing any error codes on my reader. Stupid question, but can an ignition switch cause this type of problem?
I was able to replaced the switch thank you. Since I just purchased this 2012 Escape, I don't remember if the key switch had a play prior to replacing the switch. When I first started after the installation, the key did not return and I had to manually turn the key back a bit. Is this normal in the escape?
I followed these steps and installed a new ignition switch. Made sure it was properly clipped in place and also that the key was in the ignition when I installed it like you said. It for sure has helped because now I can start my car every time first time whereas before it took me many attempts. However, I still have to push the key in towards the ignition a bit before it starts. Is there anything secondary that could be causing this?
Did you ever figure out if there was a secondary issue causing this? and does your car still start normally since replacing the ignition switch? I've replaced mine as well as the ignition lock cylinder, and I'm still having the same issues, and I can't figure out what else could be interfering.

Thanks again- I'm ordering the part and doing it. Concerning the actual switch, do you have to press both ends at the same time and pull, or you can do it individually? I noticed you lowered the steering wheel but I didn't understand how you do that, can you explain? Thanks a million
Hi, I’m glad my videos helped you fix your issue. You don’t have to make extra keys or anything else, this is a very very common issue on this vehicles. To respond to you questions, yes you can press them separately and not at the same time. And 2nd, you can adjust your steering of any car with the lever located it under it.
Don't waste time and buy the part here, its the part that you need, has quick delivery and its $30 amzn.to/3INPgRv
