Great video, honestly thought you had waaay more subscribers, you deserve many many more but you've earned another right now. I love Snyder and his portrayal of both Bat-Man and Superman, not because i like that they kill but because i shouldn't give a fuck about what he does with these characters, he's been made director he can go nuts for all i care, i enjoyed it all, i'm not going to the movies to watch the most pure 100% comic adaptation of Bat-Man, let the directors have fun, this Bat-Man was cool and broody, muscular and scary as fuck, loved him, Affleck killed it too.
Batman does not kill, so Batman should kill? Faulty logic. Superman could kill everyone on Earth. So should he? Do we want to see that? Should Superman overthrow the government and take over America? Every instance in BvS, where Batman kills is an instance that Zach Snyder puts him in! Do we need to test Spiderman's morals by having HIM kill? There needs to be a difference between the hero and the villain, else they're all just murderers. If Batman's ethic is that he doesn't kill, then his killing is a failure. My question is why are people like you and Snyder so desperate for him to kill? What happens if you extend YOUR moral stance to Spiderman, Thor or Superman? Homelander! Is HE a hero? True, Batman is a dark violent vigilante, but his one saving grace is that he doesn't kill. Zach Snyder's Superman says to Batman, "The next time they shine your light in the sky, DON'T go to it!" The POLICE shine that light TO SUMMON BATMAN! NO-ONE calls on Superman. He turns up because of HIS OWN moral code.
@michaeldavis2001 My whole point is that if we want to explore all aspects of the character as if they were real, we have to put them in a variety of situations. If they end up failing, let’s see how they deal with that. Do I want to see situations where Superman kills everyone on Earth or overthrows the government? Sure. There are already storylines where stuff like that happens, like Injustice. It’s interesting to watch our hero’s struggle with their morals and change. You seem to have a very idealistic, black and white view of “heroes” and “villains”. For me, after a while that’s just a bit juvenile and simplistic. The world has a lot more nuance than that, so I think exploring those areas is interesting.
Hey, snyder fan here. I really liked your video and agree with almost everything you have said, but your initial argument is a little weak. It's not about killing someone while directly looking them in the eyes vs killing them remotely 😂. It's about killing a good guy vs killing a bad guy. All around the world it is right to use weapons in self defense, moreover it's suspicious if you don't use it. If you watch movie carefully you will see that batman does not strike first ( e g. If you throw granate at me - this granate is flying back at you, if you shooting at me with a machine gun - you will get it in return etc.) Superman is a good guy, throughout whole movie Bruce patronizes himself to hate a good guy. He changes his worldview (good guys all will eventually go bad, even him), changes his past (fighting criminals is useless), make his whole life about this very moment. When they finally meet to fight, Superman tries to break through this armour that Batman has constructed and talks directly to Bruce. One of the most important themes of the movie is the path Bruce chose to honor the memory of his parents, right at the beginning of the movie he says that he chose the wrong path (bats gave him a lie). When Bruce talks about time when his parents were alive he says that it was perfect, when batman talks about them he says they died in a gutter for no reason. If Batman kills a good guy then his parents memory will forever be dishonored ( one of the reasons why bruce has nightmares, his parents grave bleeds, bat monster comes out of it). Batman uses death of his parents as fuel to beat the shit out of criminals, criminals that took his parents from him. His parents memory is honored when he crushes criminals because he is doing it for them - that is a lie. The truth is that his parents died and there was nothing he could do to prevent it, the truth is that superman does not need to become the bad guy if batman going to be right beside him, if they stand together.
@qnal3010 Thanks for watching it! And I still don’t think that the argument is about killing someone good or bad. People have issue with Batman killing period. The additional nuance comes from killing firsthand and secondhand, and whether the intent was to kill someone. There are plenty of secondhand “killing” that happens to heroes when they prioritize saving one life over the other. So I still think the main point I’m addressing here is Batman’s choice to kill in any capacity.
Is it really just because of "first hand" killing? Meaning that he looked at him and waited for him to tell his story, so that it is more personal - that is when he cannot and should not kill? If a criminal just screams a few details about his life, his personal story just before batman is about to kill him - than it does count as first hand ?
I don't like fans who say "you should not put batman in position where he has to kill". I also don't like those who dumb him down and make batman do some trick at the last moment and get out of water dry. Snyder seem to be the only one who is willing to go extra mile and say "he is killing criminals in self defense and he is still batman" (first hand or second hand), but if he kills superman then he is something else.
You got a sub man you're a hardworking
