  • Quite the angry man here, he ranted on for a while! I'm left perplexed as to why the registered owner or the driver didn't nominate themselves properly for this offence. It could entirely be a mistake - these things do go wrong sometimes and post doesn't arrive, in which case he should be able to effectively defend his alleged failure to nominate. I rather can't help thinking that the failure to nominate was intentional, mind.
    Pay more attention to your driving, Sir.
    Oh, and correction to my mistake - he said special forces, not SAS. Sorry! Sometimes it's hard to remember exactly what was said when someone is shouting and ranting at you like this.
    Here's a link to the article, which was unusually positive for a Daily Mail article!

      He seems incensed to have been caught out. It challenges his view of himself as an inately virtuous person. This in turn suggests a world view were virtue comes through belonging to a favoured group, rather than through merit or actions. It's a form of snobbery and is very unattractive. I don't think he's used to being challenged...

      Can confirm that too many historical British military families have the same weak-jawed, delusional and 'out-of-touch with reality' children that "just have to follow in daddy's footsteps" instead of doing what they really want to do, which is hairdressing. The entitlement of that guy back-pocketing with his military service and his family’s’ too (which I am guessing was wildly exaggerated as people who have seriously put their lives on the line would almost never use it as a pretext for defending their own other bad behaviours) was disgusting. They are 2 of the core values to become an Officer and I can assure you that not all ex serviceman have them. My gut reaction is that he’s a ‘bull sh&£#er’ but you never know. Anyone who starts with "I Have Honour, Integrity", then starts on about what a magnificent military career they have, is a self entitled liar of the first order. They usually are the weakest link in the unit too as they can't take the blame for what they did and can't suck it up and get on with it. It's not standing one's ground. It's failure to see that the fight isn't worth it and more harm comes from it to you and, worse, those around you.

    Is it illegal to use your phone while stopped in the UK?

    • @CyclingMikey
      @CyclingMikey  ปีที่แล้ว

      Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons:
      1) Should a child or shorter person cross in front of them they wouldn't even see them, and would likely then move off, running them over. Here's an example someone else caught where the driver almost takes out a pedestrian at a crossing:
      twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20
      2) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists. These drivers are often slow to react when the queue starts moving, and then when someone behind them beeps they drop the phone and hastily move off without even looking.
      3) If you imagine these people only use their phones when queuing at the traffic lights, that's terribly naïve. The gardener in LM63BTZ was on the phone whilst driving along, and quite likely had been doing it for some considerable part of his journey. These phone users are constantly using their phones, but it's just much easier to catch them when they're in the queue.
      4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver.
      5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily.
      6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g
      7) People who knowingly break minor driving law will likely also break more serious laws. Strong policing of minor traffic offences has a strong effect on reducing collisions resulting in killed and seriously injured people. It's good to police these phone drivers.
      I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.
