  • Do you only have an hour before an event and want to wear a dress you made yourself? Do you have a few yards of gauzy fabric that you've been trying to figure out what to do with it? Thanks to a random Instagram post, I found the perfect dress to make in an hour with minimal measuring and sewing. And the final product is perfect regardless of how you're feeling that day. A little bloated? Leave the belt at home. Feeling fabulous? Cinch that waist and get going. It's almost perfect...

    But most exciting, you can get your very own digital pattern of my Box Bag Pattern
    AND I’m doing pre-sales for my DIY Box Bag Sewing Kit. The listing will close at the end of August, and orders will be shipped in September.

    Ok that looks surprisingly amazing with the belt, and hilariously comfy without. This is the sort of dress I would never in a million years expect to wear and yet, now I desperately want to try making one. Will report back on that when I get round to it in like six months time 😄

      You absolutely should! Done with the same viscose you did the pants in, I think it would be amazing! I'll check back in come spring to see how it's going 🤣

    New channel name "Katie Makes Stuff while Irritated " love it.
    I think the 2 times bust measurement would be better for smaller frames ( there are people who exist like that, I don't know any, though 🤣).

    Happy to see I'm not the only one who is sometimes at the verge of hitting my machine with a hammer when it won't do it's one job

    Ok the sewing machine frustrations are so real though! Rage against the machine! 😂
    Edit: love the fabric and the belt really does make all the difference!

    Omg I also thought this dress would be too feminine, but that amazing fabric does all the heavy lifting. Think I might need to make this. Also, curious to know what you have used fabric like this for in the past.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think going with a black fabric really helped temper the feminine-ness! I've used this type of fabric for the backs of light quilts, beach cover-ups, and even light tank tops. It's amazing!!

    In my experience, if I’m in a “mood” starting out my sewing machine rebels. 🤣🤣🤣
    It turned out really cute though ☺️

      It's like me and my machine are spiritually linked. If I'm having a bad day, so is she. I wish she would stay strong for me when I need her most though...

    It turned out super fun. Definitely finished with a belt. I think I will make it too, but with a maximum of 1.5 x the bust length. I think that's more than enough to have a comfortable tunic or dress, but a little less bulky at the neckline.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  หลายเดือนก่อน

      And if your fabric is any thicker than what I used, you'll definitely want less length to gather. This fabric is so gauzy and light, the gathers aren't too bad. Best of luck in your making adventure!

      I have now made one, but have modified it even more. I gathered the neck part to a width of 20cm and then sewed a band over it that closes with a button at the back. I let the front run diagonally backwards so that an open back was created. At the waist I made a band on both sides from the same fabric as the tunic / dress, so that it has a belt that can be closed at the front or at the back by tying a tie. I used a light, flexible cotton (I think, found at the thrift store) in paysly style. Color burgundy.

    Very cool! I don’t have a sewing machine but the sewing could be done by hand. Thanks for the inspo!

      I think it would take some time but it would be super simple to do by hand.

    I tried a one-piece pants pattern for pintrest that looked easy enough. It works as pants if I were a size 0 and had absolutely no butt at all, since I am not those things its a nice over-pants item.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤣🤣🤣 that's what I suspected!! I'm also not a size 0 and sizing up patterns is a special skill all on its own.
