This one’s the best video. No chitchat with the attendant, no slow, long climb up a hill, not even any screaming, which you would hear if I were filming this.
They have a special ski lift for taking the cars back up. The people go up in one, while the carts go up in the other. It's the same for some of the other longer alpine coasters as well :)
I've ridden only one alpine sled, and that was at the Ober Gatlinburg mountain top park in Gatlinburg, TN. It was a blast to ride, but nothing like in the video! That's a long one!!
Of all the oh so many Alpine Coasters I've been on now, this one is the best Wiegand one! Doesn't matter if it's long or not, it kicks ass! ;)
In winter it is unfortunately closed for various reasons. It would be a lot of work to keep the track clean and free from snow. You'd also have to prevent possible little avalaches. But most importantly it's for security reasons, because of the icy tracks you would get way to fast and couldn't even break correctly, and maybe iced breaks would make it even worse.
Btw, we in Germany usually do not call those rides Alpine Coster, we call them Sommerrodelbahn, which means summer toboggan run.
What a long trip.. Awesome view by the way
I didn't use brakes when I went down except for the end.. you just go really fast down it, they are all safety tested to be able to deal with full velocity as far as i know. :)
That's one way to go to town for a burger. If its open, that would be amazing in the snow.
You should go the longest one in the world in Imst, Austria as well! it's absolutely amazing! I've been on the Alpsee and the Imst one several times xD
On an Alpine Coaster/Apline Slide, the rider controls the speed with a brake lever.
You just reach a certain terminal velocity. There are still brakes in every cart that make it impossible to go over a certain speed.
There was one similar to this in the French Alps where I went, although it was a toboggan, so it wasn't connect to the track. It was seriously dangerous and fairly ghetto, my brother fell off and got friction burns all up his leg due to there being literally an airtime hill where his toboggan came off the track. Crazy shit it was.
I'd love to ride this one. What a lovely view! (Not really one for other coasters though...too wimpy ^_^; )
I'm living in Altstädten..it is 15 min. away from this coaster--BUT I HAD NOT BEEN THERE YET!
I traveled here with my cousins as a kid. Its called the Alpsee Coaster located outside Immenstadt. Its on the 308 between Oberstaufen and Immenstadt. Or go to alpsee-bergwelt.de :D
Going down this alpine roller coaster at night would be really scary
Good lord, I want one of these in my back yard....
There's none with actually "no brakes". Doesn't change the fact that the Mieders Alpine Coaster is also very good!
That thing just goes on and on.. Holy crap.
Yes there is a lever you pull between your legs for the brakes.
just 80meters more than the Hasenhorn Coaster. thx for the vid.
It's usually never that busy. It's not the easiest to reach and is also rather expensive.
Besides the obvious reasons, alpine coasters can never go up. Since the carts have brakes, they could be stopped on uphill sections. Making them unable to move any further.
sweet! looked fun!
i've been on the one in the attitash mountain resort. it's not as boring as it looks.
that looks fun. wish they had one in arizona
if this ride is almost 5 minutes down the hill at speed I can just imagine how long the lift hill takes.
AMAZING, how nice this one is, love it! Have you tried it Robb?
Flat ride, but looks so much fun!!!!!
that was friggen awesome!
that is frigging awesome.
they reverse gravity I think... or just have a chain/cable lift as most other places use.
Looks super fun but why aren't there any loops ? :)
the next thing gopro should make is a camera that doesnt pick up the sound of the wind
wow what a ride
I was half expecting to see a Direwolf in the woods. (Yes, I am a GoT geek)
You can use them whenever you want. I suggest not using them until the very bottom of course (if that is possible with nobody in front of you).
i want to go to there. also, do you use the breaks during the actual ride or just at the end? i've always wondered
i wish one would open up in the lake district.
It's not just a ride it's an adventure! I wanna go!
When I went on some alpine slides years ago there was a snake on the slide and I ran it over.
wow that is one LONG coaster.
HOLY CRAP THAT IS LOOOOONG!
that is so sick!
Cool, then lay off the brakes until the very end (for the most wild ride)?
2780 meters = 9120 feet ;)
I believe this was one of the challenges in The Amazing Race.
Wow. Has anyone flown off the track by not using their brakes enough?
Holy Cow!~!! I want to ride! Why don't they have these here in USA???
You know. BY A CHAIN HILL!
I just didnt see that in the video,,, i knew about the lift, on other coasters but I just never saw it
Cool vid........thanks.
Looks like you definitely get your money's worth for this ride!
Was he braking or did he only slow down at the very end?
Nice
World's Longest Queue Length as well I presume.
Trust me, it's far from boring! ;)
Omigod. At 2:00 you don’t even see where you’re going!!
How many feet long is it. It looks really long.
Roadkill.
it kept going.
yea, okay i live in germany and i have no idea where this is .. how does the city called? :o
the brake is in the middle to stop pull up
It should not be compared to "real" roller coasters.
But please try one first before judging. This thing has more airtime than most coasters!
This is one of those rides that would never work in the U.S. Some troll would just stop on the middle of the track.
with a lift ( like a snowlift for skieërs
I wonder how long is that track.
No, it's not possible. The cart is fixed to the track just like any "real" roller coaster.
You'll have a LOT of g-forces sideways though when you go down full speed. ;)
What would happen if I didn't use the brakes?
TH-cam is giving me a hard time posting links ...
Go to the official "Wiegand Slide" Homepage (google it), go to "products -> Alpine-coaster", then "references" and the "United States".
Hope that helps.
Why does TPR never do flat rides?
yeahhh,germany!!! :D
i was on one of those in switzerlad there class
says "Not Found" can you get me any more info?
how do they get the cars back up?
Fall off and u got a long ass walk ahead of ya
There you go! :-) Sorry, didn't mean to give you a hard time. Sometimes I just can't help myself.
Wow....how fun..... -_-
Wow! That thing probably cost an awful lof of money to make XD
i want to go on alpine coasteeeeeeeeeeer
There are a few Wiegand Alpine Coasters in the US. So yeah, your argument is invalid.
That's a long ass coaster but I would be better if It just went straight Down the mountain fast
but won't you fall off or fall out the track?
Jechalem osobiscie rewelacja
There's a lift for them ...
These are one of those rides that would be fun as hell to ride in person but boring as hell to watch on video
What if their was an animal on the track though...?
What's 'alcahol'?
Its long but it does not look very fast
Arguing on the Internet? There's an app for that
You should not be able to fall of the car. You are buckled in.
No, not possible. the car is fixed to the track just like on any rollercoaster. ;)
Not if you smoke a joint before watching it!!! :)
this is the longest ride....
Seems to be a long and funny ride.
What about your ass at the end??? XD
Why am i watching a rollercoaster vid and readin comics about ALCOHOL? Really?
Bob
Chairlift ;)
What if you had to take a piss?
That's the *only* point he made that I agree w/. Other than that, he's a dolt. Do you know what 'alkahall' is?
