Yes, the event starts like an short prologue of what's going on and Mega Man will join you temporarily. You need to max out his Friendship points to get him to permanently join your party.
He's a bit of an oddball. He's a wand user but unlike them, he shoots his classic lemon shots instead of the mana arrows. He's auto equipped with Rush as his shapeshifting but it turns him from an assault rifle to a shotgun. An idea for DPS would be to get in close when an enemy's break bar hits zero then go Rambo. Edit: An even better strategy after further testing is to pop Metal Blade and inflict Triple bleed, then swap to Leaf Shield, run up to the enemy, pop leaf shield, then watch as the enemy's OverDrive gauge disintegrate. Unfortunately, Megaman suffers some drawbacks. The downsides being: A: The fact that he has to get in close to use Leaf Shield which means he's putting himself in harm's way, which is kinda bad since he's a wand user and they tend to have low HP. B: His stats for a 5* are actually kind of low compared to others so don't expect anything like the Gala Unit's stupidly high DPS and HP. C: Even if he can melt OD bars, he can't capitalize on them without using leaf shield again, and that's finite due to the ammo mechanic. so you'll need a strong teammate who can capitalize on his breaking.
Personally, I think Midgardsormer or Mercury get difficult in the expert level. Midgardsormer somehow has you unable to move properly (I think it's some kind of windbox like with Wind Man) which makes avoiding certain attacks kinda hard. And Mercury has some straight up *_CRAZY_* moves. They're all pretty easy to avoid, but you can't turn your attention away at all. However honestly, none of them are all too difficult, even on Expert difficulty, just because Mega Man cheeses them so hard.
