  • Time to team up with the 3rd engineer and change the nozzles of the fuel injectors and let's see if the newbie can explain how they work!
    This is for yanmar 4 stroke diesel engines, a maintance done every 2500 running hours!

    I just started as a marine and technical engineer (student). These demostrations of the main parts, helps a lot better, for fully understanding hos the engines are operating.
    Thanks ❤

    You seem like a good guy and your videos are very clear and informative. They will help me for when i go to sea next month. Watching the fuel injector spray must have been satisfying after re-assembling and reaching 45mPa. Good luck for the future.

      Hahaha I'm glad you think that about me Adam, to tell you the truth I think we in the engine room should just be without mask, just how we are love it or hate it because those type of people don't hide stuff.. Hiding stuff from the engine team is dangerous hahah. Anyway about the injectors yeah its satisfying however I should have mentioned that the pressure depends on the model of the aux. Engine! I went to a different vessel with YANMAR Aux. Engines but they were a bit smaller and of course opening pressure was less (32MPa)

    The injection pressure is actually 34.0 MPa. I also work on these engines.

    • @ShrimptoShark
      @ShrimptoShark  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the size of the engine.. I have also worked on the smaller one that have an opening pressure of 34MPa..their max load was about 700KW.. Those in the video where for engined of about 880KW..in any case I should have explained in the video it depends on the engine.

    do you reuse spare nozzles ? even after 2500 hrs? is it possible to recondition spare nozzles( using a super fine grinding compound on the tip of the nozzle assembly? and grinding it on the inside on yanmar engines?

    • @ShrimptoShark
      @ShrimptoShark  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen this done and it can work in emergency, however most times the nozzle cannot be saved and the problem will persist.

    I think the calibrating oil medium to be used for testing must be an hydraulic an oil depending on your suppliers brand rather than diesel oil. Just an observation but still keep it up. :)

    • @ShrimptoShark

    • @ShrimptoShark
      @ShrimptoShark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha quite specific my friend.. For the best information please consult the maintenance manual for your specific engine.

  • @nirloveangal6508
    @nirloveangal6508 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why testing pressure is low comparing to main fuel injection system in marine main engine?

    • @ShrimptoShark
      @ShrimptoShark  ปีที่แล้ว

      One should check the manual, a mistake I made is that I didnt specify the YANMAR model I was working on at that time, each injection pump on different engines have different working pressures, therefore the nozzles also have different opening pressures to correctly atomize.

  • @wilfredlakra7063
    @wilfredlakra7063 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    These are manual injectors right. Do ships even use electronic injectors?

    • @ShrimptoShark
      @ShrimptoShark  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct they are manual injectors because they are timed by a mechanical part - the camshaft which activates the fuel injection pump.
      Also as you could see the spring is adjusted manually to open at a certain pressure..incorrect adjustment can cause premature opening or late opening
      There are electronic injectors famous in MAN B&W ME series, check them out! No chain and camshaft.. All hydraulically operated!

  • @ShrimptoShark
    @ShrimptoShark  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Small correction.. When I say matted surface when referring to the spacer and nozzle it's actually an error.. Matted means uneven and this is the exact opposite! This has very smooth surfaces which should be kept clean!
