Vintage days for Scottish football. Dundee Utd and Aberdeen challenging my lot Celtic - who were defending double champions. Rangers, struggling by their standards, but still had some good players. Arabs winning the league. Aberdeen winning the ECWC. And the Scottish national team had some class as well.
Used to love watching Sportscene on a Saturday night - now honestly I couldn't care less. These goals don't need a slick soundtrack to them either - just Archie's dulcit tones. All the teams and grounds had such character back then. It's all gone so wrong.
Thanks for posting these great goals. Scotland had such a wealth of talent those days. Great players such as Kenny Dalglish, John Wark, Charlie Nicholas and Hamish McAlphine.
Funny that..... Such a class Scotland team that we finished bottom of our Euro Qualifier group. Sure, we had more players of a high calibre back then, but could we put them together as an effective team? Bloody nostalgia, it ends up getting in the way of the facts.
We were shite in 83 but i remember the season well and the standard of football was far superior to now..The fact is Rangers didn't have a bad side then, probably win the league today but Dundee utd,Aberdeen and Celtic were very good sides..
@@tonysoprano2912 Btw as a wee boy i had the red jersey, but have you noticed a difference in the shades of yellow Forest wore in the European Cup days? Shorts were a different shade from the rest of the away strip.
Crowds are higher now than they were then. It's just that in those days Sportscene only did one game per gameweek, now they do every game and the terraces look fuller than all-seaters.
@@Alexmarr14Blogspot Not true - Maybe for the old firm as they were comparitively struggling but Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hibs, etc all had bigger crowds in the 80s
Good point - Goal of the Season and no Rangers candidates, proof surely that their brand of anti football is not a new policy! Dalglish, Nicholas and McStay were sublime in those days... Ralph Milne too - why are kids not called Ralph any more?!!
It should be pointed out that in 1983 the ball weighed 24 kilos and contained the ref's packed lunch. These were screamers. Gough's was well a cross btw, shameless.
Players had swagger about them back then. They all wanted to go out and impress and show what they could do. They also didn't want to look weak. It was a macho/confidence thing, that player today seem to have lost.
Charlie Nicholas should have been an all time great. Velvet touch and control. Always looked like he had time to spare on the ball. Bloody London, champagne, coke and women eh...
Yeah and the fact that Arsenal in those days were pretty defensive. It ruined Nicholas. He also seemed to put on weight. Man U or Liverpool is where he should have gone.
Interesting to see this weekend that the Dalglish goal won the (English) Match of the Day goal of the season award that year. It wasn't anywhere near the best goal in this clip! Nicholas at Ibrox is the best IMO.
This is why i used to look forward to the football. Not anymore though. What an incredible decline in the space of less than 20 years.Did anyone notice not a single Rangers goal?
wow was there something in the water at tannadice that season? most of the goals were there! rangers ruined scottish football bringin in souness and a load of english internationals, average attendance at ibrox this season? around 13`000 mark,so much for `loyal` eh? loyal my arse!
it would appear that you have forgotten about the biscuit tin days at Parkhead my little bogtrotter. You must remember those days when a fox ran onto the park and doubled the attendance. And the players,oh my the players!! Anton Rogan,Lex Bailley,Wayne Biggins,Stuart Slater,Mark McNally,Baggio Fulton,Ian Andrews,Fat Pat McGinlay,Peter Grunt,Hot Shot Gerry Crainey,Tony Cascarino,Andy Shocker Walker and last but by every means least Tommy '' Nowortha'' Coyne!!! Oh the players!! Celtic scum!! haha
That Charlie Nicholas goal against Switzerland I've been looking for for ages! One of the best goals I've ever seen!
It was an amazing piece of skill. Charlie should have been the new Geoge Best but his career just sort of fizzled out.
It's not just a superb goal it's world masterpiece... By Dalglish

Really excellent goals! For me Dalglish (against Belgium) Wark and Nicholas (Switzerland) are the best. From Italy 🇮🇹🏴
listen to the atmosphere at some of these games..good stuff.

Excellent Stuff - My Hero Charlie!!!!!!
Notice the lack of overseas players!? Those were the day's.....
Mine too what a talent ,and 3 brilliant goals there
Thanks for posting these great goals. Scotland had such a wealth of talent those days. Great players such as Kenny Dalglish, John Wark, Charlie Nicholas and Hamish McAlphine.
LoL
Dalgleish goal was as good as anything you will see today. With so called athletic players now. He was world class
Dalgleish goal was a thing of genius
that richard gough goal was incredible!
Charlie Nicholas v Switzerland is the best goal I've ever seen
Didn't come close to King Kenny's against Switzerland
Wark was awesome, he scored a ridiculous amount of goals from midfield.
Funny that..... Such a class Scotland team that we finished bottom of our Euro Qualifier group. Sure, we had more players of a high calibre back then, but could we put them together as an effective team? Bloody nostalgia, it ends up getting in the way of the facts.
Ahhh, what a season. FTD83.
We were shite in 83 but i remember the season well and the standard of football was far superior to now..The fact is Rangers didn't have a bad side then, probably win the league today but Dundee utd,Aberdeen and Celtic were very good sides..
Bobby Russell would be the best player in the league by a mile these days but he never even got a cap for Scotland.
He's done it!
Great days I think I was at all the United matches. We are lucky if we get that many in a season now
those were the days!
Scotland has had loads of brilliant players & outstanding teams
Forest had quite a few of us at the City Ground and away winning Bigtime hehe
@@Kelly14UK most English teams in 70s & 80s owe there success to outstanding Scottish players 👍🏴
Don't forget the guys from Wales, Ulster and Eire

Some info.CHAMPIONS 80,84,85 ABERDEEN,SEASON 81,82,86,88 CELTIC,SEASON 83 DUNDEE UTD,SEASON 87,89 RANGERS.
The longest shortlist for a goal of the season charkie nick legend
Richard Gough scored a not bad one !
haha richard goughs goal was amazing
Goal O.
Happy Birthday Ralph
The only commentary that is obviously stitched on afterwards is the Dalglish goal against Belgium
That was a weird game. Souness missed a penalty and Scotland lost 3-2.
Aye - one that got away. Think the penalty might have been Frankie Gray and one the Belgium players threw mud at the ball during his run up.
last goal the best goal!
where did the crowds go? would love to see the scottish game like that again. competition for the league trophy and good attendances across the board.
Crowds are higher now than they were then.

@MiTVCanal He was more than pretty good, he was Dundee United's top european scorer back in the glory days, not bad for a winger!
Notable that Rangers only featured with goals scored against them! We really were shite in those days - better days for Scottish football though
The Scottish F.A. need to watch this clip and weep with shame.
They have no shame.
you don't see many clips when eamonn bannon still had a full head of hair
what a goal? my god. no scotland caps either, just ralphy
Good point - Goal of the Season and no Rangers candidates, proof surely that their brand of anti football is not a new policy! Dalglish, Nicholas and McStay were sublime in those days... Ralph Milne too - why are kids not called Ralph any more?!!
Ralph Milne, one of the saddest stories in football.
The Charlie Nicholas goal v Switzerland was world class. Just wonder how good he could have been if he'd signed for Liverpool.
His problem wasn't the club he signed for it was booze.
Some really good goals but Kenny Dalglish goal against Belgium is the best.
Charlie Nicholas reminded me of George Best
Well said! When I build my time machine, you'll get first refusal for a trip back to 1983!
Eric Black's goal was the best but I am very biased.
lol players running around with their socks down and no shin pads. Those were the days!
Goal C or King Kennys goal for me
It should be pointed out that in 1983 the ball weighed 24 kilos and contained the ref's packed lunch. These were screamers.
Gough's was well a cross btw, shameless.
Eamon bannans goal v hearts free kick was a duesy! ! !
Hahah the Tims are raging. Delicious

Imagine having these guys in the Scotland team now eh?
We wouldn't be in half the shite we're in.
@TanaHandbag
Rangers never needed to shoot from distance, pass and move the object of the game, we were the Arsenal of then.
RRREEETTTRRROOO! I love it
Charlie Nicholas should have been an all time great. Velvet touch and control. Always looked like he had time to spare on the ball. Bloody London, champagne, coke and women eh...
was that londons fault lol

No Hearts goals? Well it's not unusual!
Ralphie!
Goal J for me
Moved to Man U I think.
hahahahahha check the john wark mugshot!!!
@adamwasiak LOL xD Epic player, mind.
2018?
What won it that year?
Forget how good Nicholas was..

Clubs are also to blame. What's this SPL nonsense all about?
Someone see the players celebrate goals with joy, jumping and smiling?
