Has anybody ever ( before or since this game ) seen a free kick hit like that by Davie Cooper ? Precision, power & accuracy....It went in like an arrow....What a player he was....No keeper could have saved that...We are still watching his goals many years after his passing....His name lives on...
Never seen one hit harder than that. ever. I was in The Rangers End and, to this day can hear the net go "THOOT" before we celebrated. Easily my favourite Rangers moment. . Total legend.
I’m big Celtic fan, and I thought it was fantastic at the time age 11, and I still watch it occasionally, what a free kick.. it looks and sounds brilliant
Jim Leighton in the Aberdeen goal said to Cooper that he nearly got the ball....Davie Cooper was...aye on the way back out lol
Even as a Dons fan, have to say this was an amazing final. Jim Leighton still hasn't seen Cooper's free kick yet. One of the best strikes ever
What a player Davie Cooper was
He was a player who was a couple of steps ahead of those he was playing with ' should have got more caps ' he was a one off like jinky was at Celtic.
Rip Davie
One of the best cup finals ever, I read somewhere that Jim leighton said to Davie Cooper a couple of months after the game on Scotland duty, "I nearly got a hand to your free kick, and Davie replied, it must have been on the way back out" Class.
As a Celtic fan these skol finals between Rangers and Aberdeen in the late 80s were classic.
Fitting that Durranty got the winning penalty!!! He was immense that day!!!
Craig Gillon yep definately .
Absolute disgusting what that sheep shagging bastard Simpson done a year later to Durrant
Didn’t have to mention what happened a year later as it’s not connected to this game
Willie Johnstone stood on John McMasters neck in 1980 which nearly killed him and John McDonald head butted Dougie Bell then Mark McGhee in 83
Davie Cooper was phenomenal
I remember watching that Cooper free kick smack the back of the net....and goin absolutely feckin mental!!!!! Sheer class
Durrant LEGEND!!!!
One my first matches I ever watched. Best memory of the game was davie coopers free kick and Robert Flecks equaliser. Mind my Dad nearly spilling his glass of beer right across the room when Fleck equalised. Brilliant game. Then they played them in 1988 and 89 as well. Classics.
Davie Cooper's penalty is the perfect penalty kick. No GK has a hope in hell in saving that.
A lifetime later, I can honestly say that this was the best game I ever went to. It was so tense that it seemed to go on for 5 hours! Incredible
Great posting mate. A brilliant Final with two gifted teams, and we edged it. Davy Cooper? A genius. Gone too early.
best final i have ever seen . jim bett was class for us ,, oh the memories
Ian Durrant was top class this day and ran the show for Rangers. I was in the west terracing behind the goal for the penalty shootout.
WE ARE THE PEOPLE 🏴 🇬🇧
THAT free kick from Cooper, but I think of this as 'The Durrant Final'. Instant give 'n' go and a great run & finish for the goal, not to mention the finale.
Walter Smith knows it's a classic too, from his reaction :0)
I was at all 3 finals against Rangers 87, 88, 89. We got them finally thanks to Paul Mason in 89!! Great finals and great quality of football.
I was at the game with some University friends as a 19-year old student. An absolutely great final but a disappointing result. I can remember all of the goals as if they were yesterday. I also recall being very surprised, though delighted, that McCoist missed that guided effort into the keeper’s top left corner as he was normally very clinical. Cooper and Durrant were always a threat in that game when on the ball. 36 years ago FFS!
What an atmosphere :)! Have to acknowledge the composure of Bett with those penalties! Great final between two great sides and always happy to see the bears win!
What a game still remember it like it was yesterday,Even as an aberdeen fan you have to admire coopers freekick.
What a player Cooper was
One of the best days of my life. Wish I was back there right now.
Best game I've ever seen. Had everything!
me and my dad were in The Family Section. Directly in line with Davies freekick. A memory that will last a lifetime.
Another late 80’s league cup classic between these two.
Top class game ...as a Tim I was a Don for the day..but hats off to the wee glesga team ...Cooper was class RIP....ma celtic scarf was tied to inbox Gates the day after he passed when I was there with my unwashed rangers mates 😆 to pay our respects..
Sheer passion, drama and excitement, that game had all three in spades. Durrant was World Class that day,but Super Cooper took the headlines with "THAT" free kick. I can still hear the thud, the nanosecond of silence, then another thud as it hit the net then utter bedlam from the Bears. What a game!
Durranty was outstanding well done Gers 🇧🇲
Nearly 30 years ago... god almighty. Remember watching this on tv in my grans house in Greenrigg St Provanmill when i was 14.
nearly 40 now big yin, frightening
remember watching this game
what a strike from cooper
COOPER LEGEND!!!
Durrant, what a player
remember watchin this final on the telly i was only 9, id been to hampden the year before and seen us beat hearts 3-0 to win the scottish cup, but watchin this i was in tears, was at the same final the year before and that was worse, but one of my best trips to hampden was the year after when we finally got our revenge on rangers.....STAND FREE
Man,Davie Cooper,Wrote the book’s other player’s read ❤️🙏🏼🔥⭐️ Peerless ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Beautiful goal by cooper
Fantastic goal by Super Cooper
Fantastic highlights - well put together. What a performance from Durrant in that match.
copper on the wing the greatist
WHAT A FREE KICK!!!
16yrs of age , and this was my first Rangers game , my mum wouldn’t let me go before 😂😂😂.. i remember saying when i was 15 .. im going anyway , you can’t stop me ….. clipped round the ear , and she said , you go and see what happens , because i’ll find out …. put the fear of god in me ….. ah the good old days 😂😂😂
Copper's free-kick classic!!
Jim Leighton was a cracking keeper. That was 2 really good sides
My dad took me to this game when i was 12, my 1st game aswell
Love you Dad
Jaimie Watson i was there , my first cup final , i was 7. It made me a rangers fan for life
Remember it like yesterday , some shocking tackles there 👍👍
Cooper at 3-05 just oozed class
remember this game well good old days.
One of the best ever football games
What a come back we made
Absolutely great match - Durrant looked a very good player. I like the look of the old Hampden with the open terraces and high floodlights.
Northern Englander Durrant was a terrific player - if he hadn’t been injured by that bastard Simpson of Aberdeen in 88 he would have been the Best Scottish midfielder ever 😩
He always mentioned it in the newspaper before a dons game. Prick
Durrant that game ❤
My first final and what belter it was. Couldn’t find the supporters bus after the game and had to end up getting the train home very late!
what talent on show here ...nice vid m8 !
Fly high Super, sadly missed. 🇬🇧
davie cooper's got a boot like a rocket a great legend of the cottish game r.i.p
Was at this game , my first ever final , some game 😂😂
Jesus christ, that Cooper free kick nearly took the goals with it.
One of the first live matches I watched as a child I’m sure it was called the skol cup Davie Cooper was superb that day Aberdeen had such a good team then aswell I remember rangers had Nicky walker in goal and he wasn’t too clever
An exocet from Cooper, I have not seen a purer strike. RIP legend.
What a final
Sure I heard Coopers free kick hit the net, and I was at the other end.
Ah, the 80's mullet. Its finest hour in my opinion.
Was at the game , with the west winds crew ........good day
Leighton had the cheek to dive for Cooper free kick
Super Cooper you are missed so much
we beat Sheepie the next year too ...3-2 ...two great finals won by The Rangers !
Wee coop could certainly hit a ball, you could see even then the refs hated the bears
TheRangers1872 - Any chance you could upload the 1988 Skol Cup Final where we beat Sheepie again, 3-2. Your uploads are superb - best channel on TH-cam, keep them coming mate.
The lack of protection for Ian Durrant was horrific. Referees in Scotland encourage the hammer throwers.
only replays for huns?
Still get to you after all those years huh? :))
What a Player Durrant would have been if it weren't for that Thug Simpson. Bassa should have done time for that Assault. 😤😤
Would love to have Durrant and Cooper in the present squad
If that goal net wasn't there thre ball from Cooper's strike will still be orbiting the earth..
Imagine how much Ian Durrant would go for these days. Jesus Christ
At least we're a team.
We got you back in 89 with the Skoll cup
Matt McKimmie who fucking cares - Rangers went on to win the league that season and the following 7 seasons .
Is that right Aberdeen last won the league when tv was black and white 😆
I was at this match. Fun times. I must've been only 7 or 8.
Same here my 1st ever RANGERS game...!
Offside Robert Fleck goal. Hadn't noticed that before. Nice shorts all round though, almost rude.
another controversial decision in a big game goes rangers way.
Wee durranty fkn class 💯💯🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yes! lol. Was some game!!!!!!
Some say davie coopers free kick is still travelling
Miller clearly kicks the ball away before for coopers free kick, just watch the ball & nothing else
best free kick ever WATP
Games like this are proof that Scotland needs a Strong Aberdeen more than it needs a strong Celtic. Much as I hate Rangers - I can't deny they were excellent opponents back then.
The first time that a cup final in England or Scotland went to a penalty shoot out
Durrant/Fleck clearly offside at the 3rd hun goal.
Best free kick ever and I don't support Rangers.
pick it oot bandy!!
Was Fergie still the manager of the Dons at this time?
no, Ian Porterfield RIP
if the league was only rangers and aberdeen then aberdeen would stand a slight chance of winning. 4 times a season.
these 2 cup finals before we won the 3rd was joke refereeing. No wonder we hated Gers so much! Miler takes the ball of mccoist and ref gives a foul. Granted it was class from Cooper but never a free kick! The next game Mcoist doves for equaliser against Miller AGAIN! and the ref points to the spot, thankfully we went on to win it 1 It was enough Gers financially doping to their wins but refs were a feckin joke against them
Once a ranger always a ranger .....watp
this is it, this one went to pens
A don't know why' but football seemed better in those days 🤔🔴🇬🇧🔵
@chrispeeycritter What a ridiculous comment!Celtic are a way bigger club than aberdeen and traditionaly Celtic v Rangers have always been the match of the season in scotland.Aberdeen v rangers was arguably more important on the scottish callender in the very late 80s to the early 90s due to celtics decline.
It is true that scottish football needs a strong aberdeen, but it also needs a strong celtic. It has been 19 years since aberdeen were good, far too long!
from a rangers Fan could not agree with you more on this one
Gteat team gers!
ye can see its a rangers fan thats done this, all rangers highlights!!!lol
A drop ball, when's the last time you've seen that?
Aberdeen
Can't stand sevco but Davie cooper 👍
Davie Cooper… Player
