Here in the U.S. this is called freezer paper and usually comes in white. It's found in the section with plastic wrap, wax paper and aluminum foil. The shiny side has a very thin coating of plastic, so a lot less plastic than cling wrap or plastic wrap. I love using it. It can also be used to temporarily adhere a pattern piece to fabric or make a paper stencil that can be temporarily adhered to nearly anything that can have an iron applied to it (or a repositionable adhesive applied to the shiny side for things we wouldn't iron) A good idea is to still have plenty of ventilation since we are still melting plastic, even though we're using half as much.
Yes I often wondered about freezer paper. We don't have it here, not that I've seen it. I chose not to use anything plastic as breathing it in is toxic. So hence using the eco friendly Kraft paper. I've even used material with it and works tremendously. The stenciling though got my interest. Do you have or know where I can view a video of this. Kind crafty regards. Adsila ❣️
I fairly sure there is a layer of plastic on that craft paper. Cuz it's very shiny. Or some adhesive, (but that would be labeled as such). Paper does not stick with only heat. I bet if you ask the manufacturer they will tell you what's the shiny stuff.
Definitely. I've tried hunting for wax paper in Australia, but we don't sell it. 😥. Let me know how you go with it . I've seen TH-cam videos of people using it for similar techniques. 🌷
Lol. Have more 😊since your comment lol. Sorry I missed it. Been recovering from surgeries. And havent been doing videos. Yes. So many pretty napkins available today.
Hi Pat. Thank you for your comment. Yes different types of paper, parchment, wax, freezer paper. We used to get here in Australia, but not anymore. And too expensive to buy from the states. I so miss my stores like Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Dollartree.
Genius. Thank you so much for sharing. I have a store of freezer paper from my old silk painting days. I love to make decoupage cards, but I don't like cling wrap, & other methods are a bit hit & miss for me. This way I can mat & layer my cards like the old days! Now, where did I stash that freezer paper ......
When separating napkin layers I start in the center with an eraser. Gently rub the eraser ( use a light touch) until the layers separate, then pull from the center to the outer edges. Keeps the edges intact.
You can also transfer napkins to candles with PVA glue too I have done it myself did two 1 Xmas candle and a winter candle as long as you are careful applying glue to napkin it should not tear.
You don't need glue. Just lay the napkin or a cut out part of it onto the candle and iron it. The napkin melts into the candle. There are tutorials here on YT. It's a lot of fun and turns out beautiful!
Hello Wanda. I'm Rochelle in Australia. Sth Dakota is my home. Thankyou for subscribing 🙏🌷. Yes this technique is more friendlier than using cling wrap. What crafts do you create?
So is the "craft paper" the same as our freezer paper we use here in the US? Or am I confusing the two? And then place parchment paper on top to iron.....
I'm not sure, I just know that the craft paper has a wax backing on it. I stumbled upon it adhering together after a happy accident. From TH-cam videos I've seen of people using freezer paper, it seems like it does the same application.
Kraft paper is brownish in color like brown paper bags like super markets used to have. Freezer paper is usually white, maybe tan, it has one side shiny coating other side matt. Parchment paper , no glue, or tape will stick to it., good for crafting, and can be put in oven, like silicone Matt's. Hope this is helpful.
I found this a bit confusing- kraft paper is not shiny on one side, so I assume it's freezer paper? - the shine must be wax/glue coating which the heat from the iron activates - so it's not much different to using cling-wrap really - just simpler to use. Couldn't find the screenshot of the product details to check it out further to see if its available here in the UK. Thanks anyway.
Hi 👋. It's not freezer paper, as we don't have it in Australia. It's from Kmart. And the shiny side is a wax substance. It is eco friendly and that's why I refrain from using cling wrap.
Thank you. Can you explain a bit more about the surface you’re using so the iron doesn’t damage the table? You describe it as a “dish mat,” but I’m not sure what that is. Thanks!
Looks like just a regular mat that you put dishes on to dry after you wash them. They are pretty thick so water will absorb better than just using a towel.
Wow, 5 months ago. You don't get the notifications unless you go into TH-cam studio. I've missed so many comments 😭. Yes plastic is toxic. And if you can smell it as the iron is going over the project, it's already in your lungs.
I'll have to watch the video to understand what you mean. But if it's on the edge. You could simply cut the edge off. Which napkin are you referring to?
@@HAPPYJUNKIN62 appreciated your care it’s a general question as I always struggle with napkins as around the borders there are tiny dots pressed in , that still shows off after sealer or varnish it annoys me so was wondering for a solution may be I am doing something wrong
Ah yes, now I understand. As I was sorting out my napkins, not all but some had those pressed in dots you mentioned. Have you thought to gently iron them? I haven't tried that as the techniques I use don't seem to show the raised dots. Let me know how you go. 🌷
Hi. It has a shiny backing that has a glue like substance on it. I came across the ability to use it to adhere to other papers by accident. It's a Kmart brand.
Hi. I've never experienced that before, I just made sure the iron is hot enough to weld the Kraft backing onto the napkin top layer only. I have still some left after 5 years and they are still intact. I've even used it on materials too. With great results. If the melding between the napkin and Kraft paper isn't properly melded, I just continue to go over with the hot iron, making sure all seams are secured as well. I hope that helps. Have you tried this? And please comment your results. 🌷
Hi. It just called brown wrapping paper. I've copied the product code so you can ask Kmart to look up the product. SKU : P_41667934 I hope that helps. It's 12 metres for $5

That's what I thought. There's got to be chemicals in the shiny side, which dissolve with the heat of the iron.
No chemicals at all.

What makes the napkin stick to the paper?
That paper has some plastic on the back, it’s why it’s shiny, I’m guessing it’s like freezer paper or butcher paper?
