Congrats! Do not f*ck around with the mold. Even furniture that doesn't visibly have anything on it could spread spores in your new apartment. Clean everything well, optimally you get someone professional involved. Take it from someone with a lot of regrets in that regard, funnily enough that also happened when moving to Gießen :) Willkommen, ist okay hier.

For the wall, you could get some of those neat hexagonal LED panels and some noise isolation foam and cut the foam to fill gaps in a pattern. You'd get an interesting backdrop that provides a little lighting and also dampens the noise.
Congrats with new apartment and new uni for your wife! For me sound is just great, I'd say better than earlier
yeah personally i don’t really notice any difference but i’m sure baumi with do some kind of magic and make it better somehow
Baumi's referring to the longer reverb decay from the room, but yes, it is unintelligible to the untrained ears. Mostly because he hears the reverb more than we hear it from the microphone, if that makes sense.

For the tallness of the room you could try spanning a net over the room and putting some light but well stuffed cushions on there, that should reduce the echo significantly
