  • Classic Car Addict is proud to present this 1986 Ford Mustang GT convertible for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. This is an affordable survivor vehicle with an awesome presentation. In the Ford Mustang’s well-documented history as one of the world’s most iconic muscle cars, the Fox Body Mustang is often a heavy talking point. Why? Well, the third-generation model built between 1979 and 1993 is one of - if not the most, distinctive Mustang ever because of its polarizing design and performance.
The cabin features seats with lumbar adjustments and leg extensions upholstered in two-tone gray cloth along with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include cruise control, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, power steering, a tilting steering column, intermittent wipers, power windows, power locks, and air conditioning. The two-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under current ownership.
The car left the factory finished in Silver Metallic and it still sports its original paint, there have been NO resprays. Consignor did state that he replaced the black vinyl top about 2 years ago, so it’s in perfect condition. It features black hood graphics, black side body moldings (they have lightened over the years) and a trunk-mounted luggage rack with dual exhaust outlets. Up front, it features a mildly molded hood that feeds into a pointed bumper with discrete grills and pushed-in quad headlights. The Mustang rolls on BF Goodrich radial T/A’s, 225/60R15’s all the way around. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The 5.0 HO V8 features sequential electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 200HP and 285 lbs./ft of torque. This translated to a greatly improved acceleration time, aided by a 5-speed Borg-Warner T-5 manual that helped boost the RWD machine from 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. We look at these numbers now and think woah, not the fastest, but back in 86 it was! Old track numbers from 1986 show these 5.0 HO’s running a quarter mile in 14.7 seconds. The new engine for 1986 was undoubtedly the best mill the model had seen in years.
The 1986 Ford Mustang GT was simply one of the best-handling Mustangs to date, feeling more like a sports car than an actual purebred straight-line-only muscle machine. I had an 86 manual lx hatchback. I should've kept it.

I just can't get past that body style. Did Ford party with the rock bands and forget what car they were designing?
