I'm definitely not going to run a 5k before Christmas, but I will get back on those exercises! My #2018homestretch goal is writing at least one full chapter for my thesis.
Yeah, that seems....ambitious. I know from experience that I could do it, but with that short a time frame to prepare, it would hurt, and I'm not even trying to recover my strength after a big year of core surgeries.
PUT IT ON FROM THE BOTTOM GIRL!! Compression vests are hard af to put on. I have a flat chest but wide shoulders and its still hard. Slip it on FROM THE BOTTOM. Shimmy shimmy. !!!!!!
I believe in you, Hannah! Good luck in the 5K. My #2018homestretch goal is to hang out more with friends. I too work from home, and I go days at a time without talking to anyone.
Hi Hannah! I've recently had abdominal surgery to remove a benign ovarian cyst. Before my surgery I would go for a run 2-3 times a week, but now I obviously have to recover before I can run again. This video gave me a lot of inspiration on how to get my body ready for a run again! Thank you for the inspiration, and best of luck with your preparations!! Love, Laurine
Kudos to you Hannah for wanting to do this 5K before Christmas. I know how much it takes to fully recover from surgery. I've had 7 surgeries in my lifetime (I'm 25). You are one inspiring person :)
As a final year sports therapist, I am so interested in this series. I'm so glad you are enjoying the exercises and feeling the benefits. Well done for keeping them up everyday. I am excited to see how you get on with the rest of the journey, good luck x

I’m so happy you’re feeling better and able to do all these exercises! That’s amazing 💖 also going on long walks will really help build your leg strength as well so keep that up as well
I literally started doing crossfit yesterday after telling myself for A YEAR to get fit again with bodyweight training. It's just not possible for me to get to my limits just by myself. I need somebody to motivate me. I have a lot of respect for people who can motivate themselves on a regular basis.
I’m just after scoliosis surgery and I hate the fact that I have totally lost all my fitness. This video has given some hope that I will get better. ☺️
The physiotherapist in me is so excited for you!!! :) I'm actually about to do my first 5k on Thanksgiving (USA). I set a goal to become a runner this year, mostly because running is historically something I told myself I was bad at.
Thank you for starting this series. This has sort of gone hand in hand with me and my running. I run at Park Run most weeks (which I adore) but recently I've been running more often and I love it so much. I need to keep going with it but I'm feeling so much better. I'm trying to work up to a 10k before Christmas so I wish you luck with your 5k!!!!!
Trying to complete my reading goal of 10 books for the year. I know it's not much, but I'm on my 10th book. I haven't been able to read this much since I was a child, so I'm super excited about it. Where do you get your list of exercises from?
Loved the video! Just wanted to let you know that because of you, myself and my older sister have been doing 5km ParkRuns every other week! We're not yet at the point of actually running the whole thing yet, but we've kept a consistent time of roughly 40 minutes. This week will be my forth ParkRun and my #2018HomeStretch goal is to be able to run the whole thing! Thanks for inspiring us Hannah 💚💚
Hi Hannah, so impressed with your strength and tenacity! You’re a big inspiration to me. I also have to do exercises for joint problems I have, and I noticed something about the supermans you were doing (that’s what my physio called them lol). I could never do this one correctly and was always getting adjusted by my physio, and it was suggested to me that not having the right form in the exercises could hurt me and also not build muscle strength where it needed to be built. Essentially you’ve got to keep your hips parallel to the ground, without letting your back sink in (like when doing the cat pose in yoga) and then keep your hands and legs as straight forward and parallel to the ground as possible. I don’t know if you have a physio, but maybe show a medical professional these exercises (unless you’ve already done this in which case sorry for this pointless advice and I don’t know anything!) just so they can check you’re all good. I wish you all the best Hannah and thank you for having such a positive space on TH-cam, you’re really fab!
Thank you so very much for sharing your journey, attitude and goals with us Hannah. There are a few exercises you are doing that I'm going to add to my routine after making sure with the therapist this week. One of my goals this year has been trying to be more accepting of changing limitations.
Wow you seem so much stronger than in your first video! Keep up the good work! This is defo motivating me to continue my daily exercises after being a complete couch potato for 2 months!!
I'm wondering how you felt later the same day, or the morning of the next. Whenever I get around to some specific exercise (dodgy knees, could do with being a little more limber) it's always that morning the day after that tells me if I overdid it.
Thanks so much for these Hannah!! Had a laparotomy (c-section) & this series is so helpful... *I don't suppose you're able to link your exercises are you?* Thanks a million from Australia ❤ Emma 🌈☀
This is so good to see! And your attitude is amazing. Thank you for uploading this when you did, I'm currently recovering from a hip arthroscopy, and my eventual goal is to be able to run by early next summer, and walking normally by this Christmas! Right now I'm still on both crutches, but the surgery was only a week ago, haha!
Now that my flare is over (yay chronic illness 🙄) I want to start exercising gently again. This year has been so back and forth with my health I was never able to exercise for more than a few days per month, and my health has declined a lot! I think I might borrow some of the ones you showed here to start. I'm also prepping for the FODMAP diet I'm starting next year to hopefully get my GI system working better.
This is obviously not as big a thing as yours but when I broke my elbow and had surgery I lost pretty much all strength in that arm and had to do physical therapy, and I remember how much of a huge accomplishment it felt like when I was able to trade out 5 lb weight for 10. I just felt like sharing that story because this video reminded me but also to say that you should feel awesome and so accomplished even if it seems like only a small step up. Anyway, you're killing it.
Good job, Hannah! Keep up the good work! I expect seeing you doing jump squats in two months and seeing you doing 20 km of biking within the end of next Summer!
i wear a binder so im gonna assume a compression vest is sort of the same putting it on wise, u gotta like. step into it. like u would pants and then u pull it all the way up and then u sort of wrangle ur chest into it but then ur already half way done cause it went over ur hips and ESPECIALLY taking it off is so much easier to like slip off the straps and pull it down !!
I injured my hip and had to do things like this to be able to run pain free (turns out I was actually standing incorrectly... geez!) so I feel you! Don't give up!
Sit to stand.....cross your arms over your chest Hannah and consider a resistance band...it will help strengthen your knees and your IT bands very good for absorbing impact! Also loved the giggle after you said( favorit position) I do yoga and it's the best position ever!
my #2018homestretch is to establish some kind of home workout routine that actually fits around full time education and full time work - hopefully setting myself up for a healthier and fitter year in 2019
small amounts at the start are always good, i started on a rowing machine only 15 minutes twice a day after 2 weeks i increased that to 30 minutes twice a day but do it in 3x10 minute reparations that makes it much more manageable after 3 months im up to an hour a day once a day doing it in 15 minute blocks

This is such a good idea, I really should of done these exercises after my surgery to gently build myself up but no I went straight in and mucked out my horses stable and started riding and now it hurts behind my incision oops!! So NOW I want to do the correct exercises to strengthen my core and lay a good foundation. Can I ask where you got the exercises from? Thanks xx
Hannah you are such an amazing person! I have every faith that you can complete your goals but make sure you listen to your body (I know you already know lol)... looking forward to seeing what's to come for you!! Good luck :D
Did you used to have that painting on your wall in your Hannah Girasol days? I'd forgotten all about that's when I started following you but then seeing the picture reminded me! PS Well done on getting in the space - I felt very similar after my second c-section re insides of body (I know your op is much more epic but it's a similar thought haha!) Well done! x
You can do it Hannah! You’ve helped me so much with your Colitis/surgery/stoma videos, we have had a similar journey and I was watching them all in hospital after my surgery. They were a god send and so informative, they really really helped! And also inspired me that having a stoma is okay and I’m not alone. In fact, having a stoma is actually quite cool dare I say 😂 xxx
I'm an avid walker, not a runner or jogger, and basically get to around 6.5 kph. Depending on the weather and the managing of the contents of my water bottle, between 1 1/2 to 2 hours walk. If running/jogging the 5 k proves to be too much, how about brisk walking? 6 to 6.5 kph depending on the length of your stride is just about as much of a workout, especially maintaining average speed. Btw: I got just about the same exact exercises to perform after I developed a backache from 'sitting' too long at work ( I'm in IT ). So the were very familiar.
Great goals; great work! Be kind to yourself if it turns out they aren't realistic :) Knowing when to re-evaluate ambitious goals for your own wellbeing is a strength too. You motivate me!
Could you post more about your exercises? I'm trying to workout 3 times a week at the gym with little spurts of floor workouts here and there, because I'm a large human. Haha. And I feel like these are super doable for me, and I'd love to see more of this journey!
Babe! I love how you do these! I need to get fit again.. been couch bound sinds august cause i hurt my knee realy bad while skating. Going in for surgery 2 next week but need to get some exercise... What app are you using?
Home stretch 2018 goals are starting to regularly exercise (failed this one for years!) and to prepare for a pretty intimidating application for a 7 year training programme. I'd rather hide in my bed then tackle either of those goals though!
My #2018homestretch is to stop procrastinating as much and just do my three essays I have due within the next two weeks and treat myself to a lovely walk along the Kent countryside (cause I have been at London studying so I haven't been out much for walks, apart from work and it's one of my favourite things to do and I will back in Kent for Christmas) :)
Hannah, you're so charming that I didn't even mind the City t-shirt!! #COYG Also, I really appreciate you documenting your fitness journey, it's quite inspiring!
Hi hanna. I had surgery in september and had lots of complications. I can physically feel how my muscles are just gone. Can you tell me where you got those exercises from? I need to start from zero. Cant even walk stairs properly anymore. I feel like i need to go to an old people gym class or something. Help is appreciated
Are you seeing a physiotherapist? If you're worried about surgery bits moving in ways it shouldn't, starting to exercise with a physiotherapist will help you figure out which exercises will help you get better and which ones will be counterproductive! In Belgium they highly recommend it after labour because ? something ? about doing the wrong ab exercises can actually be harmful after your core has been under so much stress
I'm definitely not going to run a 5k before Christmas, but I will get back on those exercises!
My #2018homestretch goal is writing at least one full chapter for my thesis.
i believe in you!!
I'm not gonna say a 5K before christmas is impossible, but I am going to say you should absolutely not feel bad if you don't make it.
Yes, goals are good. AND be gentle with yourself!
Sounds a bit quick to me.
Yeah, that seems....ambitious. I know from experience that I could do it, but with that short a time frame to prepare, it would hurt, and I'm not even trying to recover my strength after a big year of core surgeries.

PS Well done on getting in the space - I felt very similar after my second c-section re insides of body (I know your op is much more epic but it's a similar thought haha!) Well done! x
Feel quite exhausted after that, and I'm sitting eating cheese on toast. Keep it up Hannah, you really are an inspiration to us all!
Good luck for the run! Looks like you're doing great with the exercises. Also super cute at the end trying to be a contortionist.
As someone doing PT this is so helpful😊
You have such a beautiful smile😁😀I am glad your feeling better!!!
Sorry! I've only just watched this! I'll have a think and pop you a tweet!
Great video! An inspiration as always.
You know what, from now on, I will try the same exercises with you!
Watching you exercise is kind of inspiring. Definitely helps motivate me to go find a phsyical therapist.
also you look super adorable!
Starting is always tough no matter how positive you try to be. Stick with it. 😀😀😀
Great goals; great work! Be kind to yourself if it turns out they aren't realistic :) Knowing when to re-evaluate ambitious goals for your own wellbeing is a strength too. You motivate me!
YAAAAAAAAS HANNAH U ABSOLUTE QUEEN ON A STICK
Could you post more about your exercises? I'm trying to workout 3 times a week at the gym with little spurts of floor workouts here and there, because I'm a large human. Haha. And I feel like these are super doable for me, and I'd love to see more of this journey!
You can do it! I believe in you! ❤❤❤❤
I am definitely gonna use this line in the future, "there is mud on the floor, what's that doing?"
Hannah, you're so charming that I didn't even mind the City t-shirt!! #COYG
Also, I really appreciate you documenting your fitness journey, it's quite inspiring!
Go Hannah, go!
Working from home is a constant struggle between the refrigerator and the TV/internet. Respect if you can do it.
You're so amazingggg!! Good luck ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi hanna. I had surgery in september and had lots of complications. I can physically feel how my muscles are just gone. Can you tell me where you got those exercises from? I need to start from zero. Cant even walk stairs properly anymore. I feel like i need to go to an old people gym class or something. Help is appreciated
Yes you will! Gooooo Hannah!!!
How does it feel to exercise after surgery Hannah?
I love this #2018homestretch thing. I promise that I have written 30 more pages to my novel.
I mean I just wanted to mention it in case you hadn't considered it yet, ultimately you probably have the best idea what you can handle!!
Apply for school! To stop being afraid of failing, and getting back in the game of life. *exhales* wish me luck.
