    In today’s video today we explore how to cut more complex shapes on your CNC using Autodesk Fusion 360. In our small shop we run our CNC every single day and we use Fusion 360's STL import tool to generate amazing 3d carvings using Walnut, Alder, Birch and even cheap ol' Pine. In this example we use a scrap piece of pine to make a gorgeous Eagle with Shield that will be added to one of our trademark Flags.     Good video. I made some clamps out of aluminum for a guys wheelchair using Fusion 360. This made figuring out step-over amount simple.

    Thank you for this. I've been trying to wrap my head around preparing files for 3D carving using Fusion 360 for some time now. Watched many videos but this one so far has provided the clearest path to finally learning how to do this. You're awesome man!

    Excellent explanation and tutorial . Liked how you took the time to actually help others not just skim through it to show what you can do
    Just started to experiment with CBC. My wife bought me a 3018 on my retirement and I am hooked. Looking now to upgrade and looking at either the shapeoko or onefinity
    Can’t wait to see what you post next

      I'm trying to make them thorough and answer questions that took me endless hours of reading forums to figure out.
      Upgrading from the 3018 was one of the best business decisions for my shop. You should join both of those cnc FB groups, there's been some recent chatter on 1F group that might effect your view of that system right now. They had to tune the feed/speed down a bit from advertised by almost 15%. 🤷‍♂️

    Thank you! I've been using Fusion for 3d printing for years. Recently bought a CNC for wood projects, the out of the box software worked well for signs and things but I really wanted to get back to my space. Needed an overview of where to get started and how to tweak my own tool paths. Found this very helpful. Thanks for posting

    Thank you for this tutorial. Thanks for the math tips that you included, I needed it. I ended up carving it out on my shapeoko, so I had to adjust the Feeds and Speeds slightly, but it came out excellent! Thanks

    Hey! I realized that at the 5:22 time, I talk about opening the mesh workspace but I forgot to mention that the Mesh workspace must be enabled first! Go to preferences>preview and click the checkbox for "mesh" to enable that workspace. Then you will need to restart Fusion in order for the mesh to become available.

      Great info, kinda hard to follow along but managing to(sometimes you going too fast, Fusion 360 completely new to me) . Got to finishing tool path an could not figure out how to add tools, there are no v bits i could find, and I working with small 3018 prover so bits limited. You got video on how you did custom tools

      Thanks for bringing up the speed and vbits issue. Actually the Vbits in Fusion is kinda tricky because they need to be created as Chamfer bit with the entered angle being off of center, so a 90 deg v-bit will be created as a 45deg chamfer bit. Regarding the speed, I recorded this twice, trying to bring it under an hour, but I plan to go over this one more time, splitting it to a video about importing the mesh, a second video on resizing the mesh, and a third on creating the 3D toolpaths... and now another one about creating custom tools. This way I can keep the video times down to manageable chunks. Thanks again for letting me know.

    Around the 30 minute mark, you remove T1M6 from the GCode. Not sure if you knew about a setting in the machine library and thought I would mention it. Under the Machine Configuration on the Capabilities tab, you can uncheck "Automatic Tool Changer" and "Supports Tool Preload". Not positive, but I believe that should work to remove that code.

      You sure can, as long as you create a machine. Before reading your comment, I had never created a custom machine. Thanks for the information. Now I've got a custom tool created and have unchecked those boxes!

    Hey, can anyone explain why the z zero at 34:36 was set to the top of the spoil board and not the top of the material?

      Hypothetically, IF i had measured the material incorrectly or entered the incorrect thickness, Lets say that I measured and entered it as 0.75" when it was actually 0.73" then a portion of my 3d carve would not get carved.... SO when doing the 3d carve I use TOP as my Z zero point. For the CUT out I use the bottom so as to not damage the wasteboard more than necessary. BUT IT you always measure perfectly than using bottom for both would be fine.

    So i am looking to upgrade my PC from a few year old laptop. More complex toolpaths take absolutely forever. Being that Fusion is mostly single core oriented i am wondering what CPU you are running on your PC? TIA

      I was running a laptop with an i5 quad core.
      I just finished, like 3 days ago, a custom build with i9-13900k and the Radeon 7900xt graphics card because rendering the models were taking long on the laptop and I wanted a real gpu finally.
      And so far it's doing great!

      My workhorse is a 1500x1500 Workbee, but i also have a SainSmart LE5040 Laser Engraver and a 3018 which was my first cnc from 2018.

      It was holding these comments for my review, weird. I use easel all the time for 2.5D stuff :) I'll be doing some more Easel videos soon too, showing some of the lesser known features in there!

      No need for ArtCAM. Fusion360 has the capability to get the job done 👍
