Unfortunately, this feature is only available with Easel Pro. If you don’t have Easel yet, setup an account and you’ll get all the pro features for a month - allowing you to carve this
Hi, I’m trying to do what you show in your video, but Easel says “this project uses features that require easel pro subscription to be carved.” I’m pretty sure it’s directly related to uploading a stl
@@mdandryhi, unfortunately Easel does require the pro version to use the 3D feature, as well as the v bit and some of the bells and whistles. When I originally made this video, I was paying monthly so it allowed me to carve this. I’ve tried to find work arounds since, but haven’t found any
You could definitely use a 3rd toolpath/bit. All you would need to do is set up your 3D tool paths and then a second file with the V bit and start them from the same place (center, lower left) and then run the 3D tool paths, switch bits, zero your z and run the detail pass!
Sure - that was just some Watco brand tung oil from Home Depot. This isn’t 100% tung oil because (apparently) that will take weeks to fully cure, so they cut it with some sort of thinner. It dries quickly and looks beautiful!
That look awesome! I’ll probably stick to Easel and upgrade to Pro. There’s CarveCo as well, but they don’t have a free trial, so I cant mess with it and see if it’s more or less better than Easel. I’m NEW to the CNC world, so I’m coming across a lot of videos such as yours to see its capabilities. I’m so impressed by what a CNC machine can do. I started small, I have the Masuter Pro but hopefully I’ll upgrade in the near future. So, whenever the machine is done with the roughing portion, do you need to dial the cnc (home) or will it pickup in the same spot once you exchange your tool bit? I’m not there yet, but just curious to know. All my test trials have been one pass (mostly lettering) and straight detail, no roughing yet. Thanks for the feedback and for sharing!
Thanks for watching. CNC’ing is definitely a learning process. For a 2 stage project, you would run your roughing pass ( larger bit) and then run a detail pass (smaller bit or v carve bit). After the roughing tool pass is complete it will return to the start position where you set your x and y zero. Once you’ve changed bits and set your z zero, the detail pass is ran
I am a current Carveco Maker user who is looking to switch. There used to be a free 3/mo trial, however I cant find links to it anymore. I am currently evaluating Easel Pro, but honestly I am finding that Easel Pro is a joke compared to Carveco (even the maker edition) when it comes to features. On the plus side for Easel however is that Easel is just stupid easy to use. There's pretty much no learning curve at all. It is , IMO not even close to being worth $25/mo when you can get Carveco for $15. The downside to Carveco for me is that their software is a bit clunky sometimes and I don't like their support at all. 2 times I have contacted their support and both times it turns into a circus where I am expected to jump through hoop after hoop if I want to find a solution. They always want you to upload your files to them before they will help you, which I do not agree with at all. The second time, I sent them a video of a bug in the software and they asked me to upload my file. I replied that the issue occurs with any file, and they got snippy with me and insisted I upload my file. The bug is still there a year later, and I've confirmed on more than one PC that is is in their software, so I'm done with them. The best option price wise may be Vectric vCarve Desktop (also 3D). It may actually have more features than Carveco and license is a one time $350. There is also Carbide Create Pro ($10/mo), but I wasn't too impressed with it. Good luck and welcome to the CNC club where software that is inferior to free software for 3D printing is locked behind $2000 paywalls by greedy companies.
i grew out of easel within a month, it is very limiting software. easel toolpaths are meant for beginners and they are not optimized at all. vectric software has more possibilities and easy interface but its made for vector files that you will be using everywhere anyway. add up those hours you lose to easel's bad toolpaths and calculate your earnings to see how limiting easel is. confusion 360 gets the best 3d toolpaths and everything has a tooltip next to it, 3d adaptive is the most optimised out of all programs i know.
Thank you so much - I definitely need to switch but I’m a creature of habit… lol. I’m also intimidated by the thought of learning a whole new program, but I know I need it. Is it easy to learn?
If i want to use a ball nose, I can just set up end mill other tool, set diameter to what ever it measure at the end, I don't half it do i... N then just change step over to 1percent or summit. Is that right guys?
You save the entire file as two separate tool paths (Easel will break it apart for you as “roughing pass” and “detail pass” ) run the rough path, the machine will return to its starting origin, change the bit and run the detail tool path
i have a dumb question when you did this carve do you use the touch probe for x y z. Im not sure how to set that all the material is gone for finishing pass to set probe on.
That’s a good question. If you have a spare piece of that same material, OR your project material is larger than your file and won’t get cut, (like with mine. My Poplar was 12” x 12” and my skull was roughly 6” x 8” ) you can probe Z from a spot on the far right (in my circumstance) Your router should return to the same X Y origin after the roughing pass. Let me know if this helps
kindly rply everyone is saying free easel 3d software but it is only available online and for trial version for a month can you plz tell me where to download computer version or how to reset trial period.
@@SJSSawdust I am sorry, but for someone who is not making money with wood working, but just a hobby, I cannot see 24 dollars a month just to use a V bit as anything but a rip off. Easel is also the worst piece of software I have used in years. I wish I had never purchased an x-carve
As far as I know, you can't edit or alter the files in Easel. I purchased my file from Etsy and then imported it into Easel. Once the file is imported, you can do slight alterations to the file ( size, z depth) and then Easel sends the g code

Sounds to me like maybe you didn’t re-zero your “z” axis after you changed your bit. Either use the extra material that isn’t being cut away or grab a piece the exact same thickness and zero off of that. That should work 😀
@@SJSSawdust yes I had did that. I figured out the problem my router on z axis was too high for some reason so I adjusted it to the wasteboard and redid the whole thing and it worked beautifully. Thank you for your help though.

Yesterday I started with Tinker, CAD first timer today I’m doing cam all of this is very easy. You just have to learn.
I agree
Thanks for the video SJS. I thought I was the only one with a Onefinity machine that uses Easel to generate toolpaths.
Hahah. You said it! Apparently the toolpaths aren’t nearly as optimized as you can get with other programs
I’m impressed with the quality
As am I. This was the first time I tried 3D and it turned out that well !
Thank you so much. This video helps me a lot. I have one question please. Can I make 3D project with my 3x cnc without rotary machine
Great video please show how to not cut out the outer square?
Under "Cut Style", what was your cut depth, and what was your cut mode, like full cut out or model based or horizontal?

Which bit used
I used a 1/4” ball nose. The smaller diameter the ball nose, the more detailed it will be!
Can u do a video on 3d carving with easel?

When I import a 3D STL file, Easel goes into Pro mode, which does incur a fee, something like $24/mo
That’s very cheap compared to most of the other programs out there👍🏻

When do u know when to switch between the flat endmill and the ball endmill bit?
Your cad/cam program will divide the process up for you and create 2 separate tool paths so you know when to change
How did you create the 3d model? I am looking for a program that will convert 2d to 3d. not sure if theres anything like that out there.
