  • I went looking for a piece of White Oak but it turned out to be Acacia! Well, that'll work! Had some stumbling blocks as far as bowl design but it all worked out in the end. Finished in Shellac.

You have an excellent eye for wood and allow the shape to transform gradually in phases that express a dynamic beauty. There is considerable variety from one area to others in any direction. That holds the attention. The piece holds the eye and fascinates the mind. Excellent!

I really like the way it came out Phil! I'm going up to my folks house for Christmas and I'm bringing a couple chunks of wood to put on Dad's lathe! He is 90 and doesn't turn anymore and it's just sitting there. Back in 2018 I replaced the spindle bearings for him and he has used it once since then. It can turn a 20" piece! I figure a Cherry crotch and a 10/4 Black Walnut slab should keep me busy for a minute Lol.

Superb piece-enjoyed yet another of your masterpiece’s. Down under we call our many acasia trees Wattle trees. Ours have about a 15 year lifespan so our 5-acres of natural scrub is covered in many dead and dried hardwood- Eucalyptus, Acasia, Wild Cherry etc. spoilt for choice. What I once looked at as firewood-I now look at with a different eye, thanks to watching your wood turning video presentations. 👍😁🇬🇧🇦🇺🦘

That is one beautiful piece of wood Phil. It reminds me a bit of Siberain Elm that we had trimmed. I did drop 2 pieces off when we were up there. But once turned it is different. I think the bark is much nicer. Your shape really shows off the bark which we know is one of your favorite parts so well done on that. I will watch this again in the morning as we just got home and had to watch right away.
Looking forward to your next my friend,

Not a very long trip. Just 20 miles out to our daughters place for Thanksgiving. But it was enjoyable for sure. Grandkids were excited to see us.
Not sure if I marked the Elm but I think I did. I just turned another piece 2 days ago,
I miss judged what I could get out of it and I was about ready to get another piece.
As we know sometimes we have to change our minds to make the wood happy.
Boy I am glad because this piece made me very happy. Getting caught up so it might be a month before I use the video.
      Take care,
      Gary
