    I've written to you before phil, and you've graciously answered...to me the greatest pleasure of wood turning....apart from wood turning, is the joy on people's faces when I give them a bowl...each one is unique..

    I am a quilter and have found that I’ve learned something new each quilt I’ve made. Some techniques I’ll never repeat because they were frustrating. I see wood working is the same. I like your platter, it looks like fine china. You can now check off this technique as “tried it” and return to what you love best; which is marvelous.

    Well Phil, for all you put yourself down at times, you truly are an artist with such an innate understanding of wood. The platter turned out beautifully and I hope your reticence doesn’t put you off doing a coloured and textured piece in the future. Since stumbling across your channel fairly recently I have become addicted to watching. I must admit I do chuckle, but not because I think you are doing anything wrong (I’m no woodturner), but simply your wonderfully droll sense of humour helps lift my spirits and take my mind off the mindless hatred of the war here in Europe. You are giving me a sense of balance I need right now. You are a good man.🪵🎨👨🏻‍🎨🤩

    Phil - Love the plate, texture and colors(U.S. spelling of colors) . Request: would like you to demonstrate how you would support this plate and other turnings for final trimming of the base. As a relatively new turner that would be most helpful. Thanks for your sharing of your expertise. Johnnie C

    • @PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
      @PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, John! When I turn platters I almost always use a recess so there may not be further trimming of the base. If I had used a tenon, I would have used one of my flat, round blocks of wood and some non-slip material to hold the piece against the chuck, tailstock support and just removed the tenon on the lathe. I show this in many bowl turning videos, probably a couple hundred times, I guess. Hope that helps!

    Hiya Phil! I was going to suggest after adding color, a very light sanding over the scrolling to show off the texture. But you final result looks amazing and I wouldn't change a thing. Green is my favorite color so nice choice in my opinion. I know this is an older video but I'm going back thru your vids and getting caught up. Enjoying every one of them ! 👍👍

    I like what it did. The blue looks like the sky and the green accented the pattern. It looks aged.

    Hey Phil, you're not giving yourself enough credit mate. The platter is absolutely fabulous. I thought the spiral effect was great. Then you added the color which took it to a whole new level... The combination of the blue with the richness of the honey was a master stroke.

    I do enjoy your regular artwork but it’s nice to see you turn like this every once in awhile. It turned out magnificent my friend

    Really enjoyed this one, Phil, especially watching how you worked through the process. And it shows the effect of the finish on making the coloring pop!

      I almost made a real mess of it, Stewart but it did turn out in the end. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your time and comment!

      I might have tried darker wood stains on it before painting, but like most paints, you need a primer on there first. 😊👍🏻

    I love how you talk to us, the audience, and explain what you’re thinking! I’ve got a couple turners on my list but struggle watching them because they don’t talk. So, thank you sir! You keep my attention! Beautiful piece by the way!

      Thank you very much, Tina! I like to think we are all just gathered around the lathe shooting the breeze. 😊

    Hi Phil. Another re-watch of an oldie for me. Love the texture and hope one day to be able to buy the Sorby Texturing tools, but still feeling the sting of the cost of the new lath! :-) Sooo -
    I will stick with the natural turnings until I somehow manage to convince my bride that I "Really Need" those texturing tools. As you say -- "By for now" Stay safe - Dennis

      Cool, thanks, Dennis! I've got the texturing tools but I use them so seldom that, for me, it was probably a wasted expense. Still, if you can convince the bride, you'll be ready for anything! 😊
