    Good technique there, top to bottom roll. We used a roller too but not on a pole, ended up with lines. Kept adding coats but that didn't improve it one bit.
    Guy at the store said we should ve applied primer first (had new plaster with misty coat, builder had said was perfectly fine to paint on).
    What would you advise? We ll need to redo and I m dreading it

      If you're get lines off your roller usually because of bad application.. can be too much paint on sides of roller and not the correct even pressure on the roller.. if it's a visible build up of paint it needs sanding down to remove. Or you may have only put one coat on top of the mist coat and it's not covered.. thanks

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also the plaster its self can be uneven and have lines in it.. bad application... And that is something you have to live with or have it done again..

    Hi you added diluted pva on top of the filler on your last wall then emulsioned. Why did you not need to do a mist coat of emulsion on top of the filler? What's the difference in the why you do one or the other. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.. only one coat of emulsion was going on.. so I sealed using diluted PVA. So did not thin any paint down.. sometimes you may have large areas that you would mist coat.. usually diluted PVA for small areas..

    do you not use a mini roller to do the edges of the walls and around light switches, sockets etc to get rid of brush strokes and to maintain the texture?

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No... Lay paint off no brush marks . Thanks

    • @hithere3035
      @hithere3035 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's what i do, but there isn't a right and wrong way if you can't see the brush marks at the end of the day and to be fair he does feather out and brush the marks out a lot of times. I find it way faster to use a mini roller though. I use Hamilton perfection roller sleeve and the same Hamilton perfect mini roller sleeve for the same texture. The best scuttles for this which i use is the Wooster Pelican Hand-Held Paint Scuttle, has a magnet to keep the brush out the paint, stopping the paint getting all the way up the bristles and it holds the mini roller perfectly at the same time.

      @@hithere3035 ever since I started decorating for work years ago, I’ve back rolled, the Idaho painter drilled that into my way of working. All sockets and anything that can come off do, i mini roll all internal corners, and again back roll as i cut in the ceiling line. I also do ceilings, woodwork then walls, the pink q1 tape is brilliant for masking up, it’s yet to peel any paint so far

    Hello love your channel im just curious when you filled the holes/cracks why did you use diluted pva instead of doing a mist cost of the paint to seal it ? Is there different times to use either products ? Doesnt pva Cause “ flashing “ so to speak ? ( this is in no way a hate comment i am just curious as I want to to use some filler for repairs and want to know as much as possible before doing so )

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends if you going to apply 2 coats of emulsion then diluted PVA is okay.. alternatively you can touch them up diluted paint.. we sometimes use a hard stop filler (paint and filler mixed together) stops flashing and no need to seal.. if only one coat of emulsion is going on... We do change are approach depends what we are doing. And how large the area.. thanks

    could the bits in paint not be coming from dry paint in scuttle pulling off when rolling into new paint ?

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No scuttle is sound.. old paint customer had.. and I should have strained it.. but thought it looked clean enough.. my mistake usually always strain my paint.

    Thanks for the video. Since the original paint as not adhered to the surface properly. And scrapping it all off will take too much time. Why not use zinsser primer on the wall. Then apply top coat. Would this not make it a better quality job. Perhaps a little expensive. Also why use filler at shirting board . Would this not crack. I thought you would have used caulk. Just my thoughts. No disrespect intended.

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None taken.. as long as no movement the skirting will be fine... Hate caulk... On wood work... It's okay if it is the finest amount and left to dry for two days... And no need for Zinsser it wasn't that bad... turns out it's also some of the plaster is loose where it has been re skimmed... Small amount bubbled but it dries back fine.. cheers mate..
