    Can you do a tutorial on how you do skin tones/shading? Like, how you know which colors to use in different spots and what colors to use for them to not look awful when blended together?

    • @jaelynnquintero7340
      @jaelynnquintero7340 2 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      he’s basing the placement of the colors on their values (how dark or light a color is) like he wouldn’t place a very light color somewhere where he wants shadow. and plus complementary colors, when mixed together make a black, so for example he wouldn’t place a purple right next to a yellow unless he wanted that area to look very dark. just learn about how different colors blend together and values.

      I remember him saying in one of his vids that he kinda just puts them where he feels they should go, there’s no certain order he just picks a color he’s feeling and if you don’t like how a certain area is looking u can always scratch it off and do it again but better bc you’re the artist ❤️

    • @ethereallords3210
      @ethereallords3210 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oil pastels blend together almost very easily so as long as you know your shadows and highlights you can use any dark or light colour to your choice

    • @vivianruijin6786
      @vivianruijin6786 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the general rule is playing with the value.. With this, you can certainly play with every color combination you like, but ultimately the colours in his works are based on what he likes so that's the reason his works looks unified

    i found this vid bc im totally new to oil pastels, and im rly impressed by how good you obviously are at this. despite how you said to choose a random color, the colors you choose and place on every particular position of the eye feels like youre keeping in mind your values, as well as overall composition, of the whole piece. you certainly dont forget variety and keeping the viewer (of the piece, not the video; but the video, too) entertained, either, as you add in different colors every time you feel "there's too much of (a color) here for my taste." regardless of your simple sketches, both your eyes turned out amazing, and it really makes me think i should trust the process a little more.

    I love how you blend the colors on their faces. I've seen art like this before. Does this art style have a specific name? Lol and Im commenting before watching your video.

    I've been quarantined too long but on the plus side, I've renewed my interest I fine art! Besides discovering that I now quality for a senior discount at Michael's, I have discovered the BEST teachers are on TH-cam! I really like this channel because of your calm and no nonsense technique with a bit of humor thrown it! I actually learned something new with oil pastels color blending! Keep up the good work. BTW, I subscribed to a few channels but rarely do I hit the notification bell. But in this case, I made an exception. ✌🏾

    Seeing you use the crayola instead of the expensive oil pastels is so great, cause I was over here feeling like I was never gonna make great art cause I can't get the expensive stuff right now like all those other artists on youtube. I was feeling like just giving up on the oil pastels all together, but you showed me that I can make great art without breaking the bank. And your use of color is something I havent seen much of in other videos, its so inspiring. I love your style of blending too. thankyou so much.

    I've always loved art but fell out of touch with it for a long time. In January, I started a coloring addiction and went bananas buying coloring books and art supplies. I mean, I was decent in high school drawing still life and portraits but its been so long. This is the style of art that inspires me and motivates me to create. I bought coloring books to practice for my own art but now I'm scared to mess up the expensive coloring books with random color that doesn't work out. So, I've been watching random videos on blending color for a fantasy style. The layers just kept going. I'm a fan of yours now. Can't wait to see more.
