Stack the supreme court, allow ballot harvesting, get rid of the electoral college, end half the amendments of the constitution especially the 1st and the second, and amp up political prisoners. We will finally come out in a utopian rebirth of the Soviet Union.

    Small correction: the aircraft on Tenerife didn't take off into each other, as that's not how the runways are used (especially on controlled/towered airports). One took off while the other one was backtracking to vacate the runway.

      I was here to add this comment if I couldn’t find it. Because of the overcrowding of the airport, the taxiway was blocked with planes. Ground Control wanted to get the jumbo jets off first to free up space and begin sorting out the mess. The KLM had to taxi down the runway to turn around for takeoff. Controllers decided to send the Pan Am down at the same time and have it pull off to the side to allow the KLM to takeoff. Unfortunately the Pan Am missed its turn and was still on the runway when pre-clearance (but not final clearance) was given to the KLM. The crew seemed to have known what was going wrong, but the KLM captain was one of the senior pilots and senior trainers with the airline and crew deferred to his authority. Likewise, the use of three languages by both flights and the controllers contributed to the miscommunication.

    • @userXt
      @userXt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      and the airport might have been Las Palmas (as Joe said) on the island Gran Canaria (which is still an important airport today) and not some airport on La Palma, as the map showed

    • @TFlight77
      @TFlight77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I was looking to see if someone made this correction. We (USAF C5 crews) used to study this accident as part of crew resource management (CRM) as the crew of the KLM jet made several CRM mistakes by today’s standards.

    The fog that rolled in at Tenerife happened pretty regularly about that time of day. The Pan Am jet was still on the runway back-taxiing and the KLM jet was making its unauthorized takeoff roll. When they saw each other the KLM 747 it could not stop so it tried to fly and get over the Pan Am jet who was trying to turn left off of the runway. Needless to say it failed.

    Still watching but, the title touches on a point I've been thinking about for a long while, what with the damn dumpster fire raging away; the many improvements that the 'average" person saw after the black death burned through. Increased pay due to lower numbers of available workers--often leading to many improvements for the workers, more land available for food and with a smaller population needing said food, etc.
    Obviously it was an crappy thing to go through, but that crap was a wonderful fertilizer for the following generations. Similar to how wildfires can be a rough experience in the short term, but they can lead to healthier, more expansive growth overall.
    Idk that I'm as hopeful this will be the case this time around, but I'm trying to stay positive and think that some good will come of it. And from everything I've seen in microbiology and virology, the possible outbreak could certainly have been far, far worse, so hopefully this was a good slap in the face to wake us up to properly prepare for future occurrences.
    Probably some points made throughout the video.
    Edit - oh and no I'm not one of people more 'insulated' from the many horrors, where it's 'easy' to say this. I'm disabled, living with and taking care of my disabled mother while greatly struggling to keep us fed, with a roof (luckily evictions are kinda 'paused' here atm) over our heads, just to start.
    Edit 2- and yes he talked about it and in more, better detail, so needless comment I guess....

    As an aside, I met Kool Herc in 2000, he was playing a small club in Brighton (UK) on the seafront on a mid-week night in November with sideways rain. Only about 100 people struggled to the gig, and it was one of the greatest gigs I ever saw. Shook Kool Herc's hand after the gig and shot the shit. Dude was HUGE, biggest hands I ever saw. What a legend.

In Switzerland they have brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The Cuckoo Clock.' So long Holly."

I wish I could help them.

    Joe: correction on the Black Death stuff: feudalism was only around for less than a 1000 years by that point. Before the Frankish empire you didn't really have feudalism of serfdom, you had other institutes of taxation and land ownership in place (tho, in many places and cases, not that unfamilliar to feudalism).
    And "first time in history a middle class was born" - I'm pretty sure you had a middle class even around the Roman republic or the Han dynasty.

    • @squirlmy
      @squirlmy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      About the "middle class": there were people of middling wealth in ancient Rome and China, but they did not feel they had separate interests from nobility/aristocracy. The later European middle class did have separate interests. Their wealth was from directly harnessing and managing skilled labor, not inherited or bequeathed titles, or collecting taxes. And their land rights were also of a different nature. In the empires you mention (and those you didn't), the people of middling wealth saw their interests as directly intertwined, not only with the rich, but even the emperor himself. I'm having trouble understanding why you are ready to make the "correction" about feudalism, but then make such a wild assertion about middle class, with absolutely nothing to back it up. Why?
