@@HowToPaintYourCar Hi Tony. VIP here, quick question I am painting my Jeep with a tri color, base, metallic and clear. The question is if im not happy with the results after the clear was applied and dried, do I have to start with primer all over again? I am afraid that if I scuff the paint with 400 and then shoot the base it might not match the rest of the jeep. What should I do? Thanks.
@@HowToPaintYourCar I just bought a paint stripper on eBay today too gonna use it before I put this brand new paint I ordered I decided to buy two pints of paint so it would be enough and the paint stripper machine was 129 on eBay. I already have a rotary polisher and getting more other pads for that for polishing waxing I almost got everything but I don't know how far I will go with painting vehicles but I do like doing it a lot now since I started painting my truck even though am a begginer at it still and I have made mistakes also but I will learn eventually.
I would love to see the faces of the people who sold your wife that lawnmower, if you tried to return it as a prank. Store: why are you returning it? Tony: I need to see the manager, the color is ugly, doesn’t match the picture on the box. Like going to subway and order a sandwich that looks great, but when you get it, it looks nowhere near the picture. Manager: are you on drugs? That’s a better paint job than I have on my limbo or my 1967 corvette.
Great video Tony ! I have been painting since the straight lacquer & Lacquer days till now and still doing it every day ! You never to old to learn new tricks. I use all PPG & HOK products from start to finish, no paint bench chemist here. One trick I have been doing for awhile is adding DX57 (PPG) to my base & clear mixture. What I do is after the project is covered in base mix your base & clear. Say on my cup using 1 to 1 scale say 4. I put up to 2 base color then up to 4 clear, then add reducer then add the 5% DX57 hardner. This is your sprayable material, each cloat add less base then add more clear till nothing but clear, shoot it then wet sand. To me this adds more depth to the finish. This was the way we did lacquer back in the days, allow plenty of dry time between coats for evap. you know. The DX57 is a basecoat hardner & clear coat hardner. You can color sand it then add your typical clearcoats . It works great on designs, layouts, and multi layers of paint. Just a tip for all ! Paul
Not paid here... Don't know personally. I bought Tony's VIP course... I have painted 2 cars since. Planning a 1967 Mustang next and a 1953 Olds after that. Not an over the top course but everything you need to get you going. Worth every penny. It is inexpensive course. He keeps it simple. Thanks again Tony...

Hey thanks for the great paint job . So much has changed from outside in back yard paint jobs,to computer down draft boths. I've seen alot and experienced alot of different things while being around the painting business. Best advice I got that's real and works no matter ur price ranges, be clean as u can paint well as u can do the best u can do even if from a can paint job wet sand between costs , wipe down, taco cloth off, clear , sand between coats, start off around 1500g.up to 2500 to 3000. Tony, Im very happy for you man. I love to see how much love your daughter have for you. You have done well my friend, good for you👍🏻 and thanks for the video.
I doubt many people would do that to a lawnmower but to see the process and result in a compact way, yes fantastic, just beautiful. I cant call myself a painter but i'll say that anytime a person is willing to go slow and stick to steps, the result gets better and better. The paint projects I did 8-10 years ago still look good today, the ones I suffered and pained over. The fast ones looked great but needed re-dos in 3 years. You can see that in action in Overhaulin' segments. The show visited owners after 5 years and the cars literally looked like crap. Some had redone the bondo work and paintwork because nothing held up.

Hi Tony question if I have a part that has been power coated no dents are any thing brand new can I just sand and paint if so what grit should I use before painting
This young guy is going to go places 👍 though he needs to finesse his hand sanding method. The art of painting relies on perfect preparation of the surface. Having said that, his artistic talent and knowledge of paints more than makes up for it !! 👌
did you visit the site? learnautobodyandpaint.com you can download a free auto body book and get more information! It's basecoat clearocat and candy that I used.
Tony , I ready to paint my mower but curious about when you sprayed the red it didn't cover up the black parts. Did the red just mist over it without changing it much. ?
This was Amazing to see. I have never used a paint sprayer before. Are they hard to learn how to use? What are the differences between painting wood vs metal vs plastic?
Well i self taught myself and im not the brightest star in the sky lol watch enough videos, set the gun up mix paint correctly, follow the painting process as you should ie prep primer, build up the coats rather than trying to get all the paint on in one shot...wet sanding and polishing after you should end up with good results..practice makes perfect.
Wow....absolutely BEAUTIFUL! That candy apple red never get's old. I first saw that color when I was a kid 40yrs ago, and to this day it still looks stunning. Great job! You inspire us mere mortals :-)
Hello there. The work you do is amazing. I have a couple of questions. Why do you sand the paint between some layers of paint? What is the purpuse? How many layers do you need to apply of primer, base, paint and lacquer? Last, what do you do with your gun between applications of the same type of paint? I have seen people applying 6 layer of clear coat. If I do that and wait 15 min between layers then it will be 1.5 hrs of my gun of being loaded with the paint. Will it dry, clog? Put in the fridge? I am assuming you are not cleaning the gun after each coat. What is the rule about cleaning your gun Thankssssss
fffffffffffffff it all depends. Because we did a layer of metal flake. Not always necessary to sand the base like I did. I really think you should checkout vip to learn more step by step. learnautobodyandpaint.com
Man, that is definitely one of the better paint projects I've seen on YT. Very impressive finish. I used to get spectacular finishes in lacquer, but it wasn't from any talent, just CRAP LOADS of work. I could literally read my LCD watch in the black paint from a foot away, though...optically flat surface. When there was very little light out at night the car would practically disappear (70 Cuda). It looked GOOD!!! Not so much straight out of the gun, though, that I would classify more as looking like CRAP. One great product I used back then for final rubbing was Liquid Ebony...it was well named, zero swirl if done right.
The best painting ever. IM watching and learning. I have a 75 Ford Maverick i love that red color im trying to paint myself because i dont have tons of money to spend on a painter. thanks for the good info
Boss Painter, @ 12:50 or so, you say never want to use grease and wax remover on primer or filler cause it will melt it, yes? In that instance, what would be best to clean primer down with? Could i use white spirits?.. or is that just as bad?
Filth mate filth!! As far as the primer goes because I used a 1K primer, that happens.... if you use a basic 2K primer which means that you add an additive hardener, then you don’t have to worry about it melting with the waxing grease remover spray. Only if you are using the cheap aerosol can “1K primers” then you have to worry. Get what I’m saying? Basically just do as I did if you’re using the cheap aerosol can. Send it, tack it off, then shoot it!! Good luck mate thank you for the wonderful comment 👍🏻
@@HowToPaintYourCar thank you so much. that makes perfect sense. im going to be spraying with 2k, so i don't have worry. woot!! Cheers mate!! stay golden 🤙
Simply amazing the candy was perfect on your lawn mower I painted my 96 Thunderbird I live in Gig Harbor Washington and it rains a lot I did it in 2016 and the paint is still good I did it with spray cans outside nothing below 65 humidity at 60 degrees or less never sanded primered painted or clear coated a car in my life until I did my car and it still is not flake nothing but I want to know you were sanding the clear coat with 800 grit correct and then put the final coat on it cuz I did the 3M perfect fit and I went to 5000 grit on my car and then just put on the buffer and had my way with it with their system and I only used the the super fine buffing pad in the compound anyway I think your lawnmower is the baddest thing on the planet and I would love to get a hold of you and pick your brain thank you very much
How well will base coat clear coat hold up to heat on a engine I want to paint my ls motor metallic blue but am a little worried about heat flaking it off. I thinking of painting over the factory black heat paint on the block to help the new paint a little what’s your opinion on base coat clear coat of engine blocks?
Omg loool 😃 A 10k paint job on a ride-on lawnmower!!! 😨 Seriously dude? Some poor teenager out there needing their vw painted and this guys in his shed messin around painting lawnmowers for fun! 😃haha Absolutely Beautiful paintwork man. Please don't cut grass with it. I'd be going down the shops on it to get a carton of milk an stuff, Show that damn thing off ☺
@@ZHGAmingAllTheWay 10k is an exaggeration of how much it would cost. He's spent as much time on this lawnmower as he would spend on custom paint job on an expensive car. He's went through the same process as if he's painting a Ferrari lol. 10k paint job ☺
I luv the red colour with the silver flake look. It is very beautiful. I like it a lot. I don't thick u put too much of the silver flake, i think it is perfect. All this while i didn't know that we have to add the silver flake into the mixture. You save me, tq ,tq n tq so so much. U get 2 thumbs up from Malaysia.
wanna paint my pick up. clear is flaking off. can i sand down to base coat and paint or do i need to prime it 1st? base coat is good. you do great work!

I really appreciate your comment. You are the guys who I make these videos for. I got a new one coming by the end of the month. It’s called the CRV Jurassic Park project.
Hello, this may be late to the video, but do you happen to know a good place to buy basecoat in a aerosol can, I’m fixing my bumper and don’t have a spray gun. Thanks.
Tony, could you explain the advantages and disadvantages of the guns you were switching between. I know that the tip size has to change with viscosity of paint. Also with the quick cup systems or any screw on top cup feed. How does it let air in to displace the paint being used?
Wow looks great Boss Painter!! I haven't painted in 15 years and maybe I'm wrong, but I used to put the "flake" in the color coat and then clear it, isn't this a very long and expensive way to do a paint job, especially on a vehicle?
Did you scuff up the paint before applying body filler and how do you clean the panel after wetsand without using wax remover water then let it dry for along time then tac cloths?
i wanted to paint a 1994 honda accord ex 2.2l coupe just like that ,but i wanted to do it my self ,i love the way you paint the drive mower bro ,good work
can I use that spray gun on inside paint for my wall in a flat paint? or use it to throw polyurthane on wood floors? so satisfying watching you has got me wanting to paint my car too lol maybe once I get done with house paint I'll learn this from your channel. good video thats to lawnmower is so flyyyy
@@HowToPaintYourCar yes a house wall hahahaha it looks like a good one and can't find any that don't suckkkkkk. I'm offended you think I drive a Crv. unsubscribing hahaha I will watch that video though. Well actually its a 2009 volkswagen Passat. I really love cars though. I've owned alot for being only 32 years old. I know what I don't like thats for sure. Still looking for the type that doesn't break down and actually reliable for as much spontaneous travel as I used to do especially after the 160k to 200k age . I put 100k miles on my first car I ever had. I think I will get a manual for my next one to see how those compare as far as maintenance. Right now my volkswagen got a little bit of mold in that I got out but black leather isn't as bright anymore. I left sunroof cracked by like 2 inch when my water pump went out and was leaking coolant. I didn't drive it for two weeks but that was enough for inside to get dingy I guess. its not to bad just messed up that it looks clean when I first finish cleaning. then it goes right back to light black areas. Are you a pro at detailing too? Your daughter is adorable. You can tell you two are close. She will be able to paint a car by the time she is 11.
Forgive me if this is a silly question, but why add metallic flake to the silver bases coat if you covered it with black and candy red. Dose the metallic flake still show through somehow?
do you have the video link to tack cloth prep or "making of" thanks - then also maybe the link to te paint mixing for each step - minus primer that one is easy but hardner, reducer added to paint, et al.... I know that I have seen some of it in one of your vids - thanks again - mower looks great
from how I learned at my technical school you can just scuff with scotch bright or 800 grit and then primer sealant and then base and clear but this came out just as good

Tony , I ready to paint my mower but curious about when you sprayed the red it didn't cover up the black parts. Did the red just mist over it without changing it much. ?
WOW! She's ready for the lawn mower show....
Your home garage setup is goals 😜
Super job love the black edging
very nice painting buddy.... great work
Thanks man!
best painter
Awesome John!
DUDE, SERIOUS? I was waiting for the end to see what the Mrs said. Her reaction after you show'd it to her.
DO you have to add the black u derneath the cherry to.give it that darker color? and also do they make a burgandy cherry????
I really like how the black blends into the red, what is that method called?
The LABAP VIP method! Learn more here: learnautobodyandpaint.com
Good stuff, needs a supercharger hanging out the hood.
At point is it best to use wax n grease remover when doing a paint job? After all sanding is done before the paint goes on or what?
You should see his snowblower
The best painting ever. IM watching and learning. I have a 75 Ford Maverick i love that red color im trying to paint myself because i dont have tons of money to spend on a painter. thanks for the good info
When you turn your family lawnmower into a lowrider 👊🏼
Cool color, looks awesome.
How bad does the overspray get over time in the garage though? Does it layer on anything laying around?
great👍👍
Thank you!
Now you have a $10,000.00 lawn mower.
Simply amazing the candy was perfect on your lawn mower I painted my 96 Thunderbird I live in Gig Harbor Washington and it rains a lot I did it in 2016 and the paint is still good I did it with spray cans outside nothing below 65 humidity at 60 degrees or less never sanded primered painted or clear coated a car in my life until I did my car and it still is not flake nothing but I want to know you were sanding the clear coat with 800 grit correct and then put the final coat on it cuz I did the 3M perfect fit and I went to 5000 grit on my car and then just put on the buffer and had my way with it with their system and I only used the the super fine buffing pad in the compound anyway I think your lawnmower is the baddest thing on the planet and I would love to get a hold of you and pick your brain thank you very much
Wow, I'm gonna have to sign up for you teachings. I have to paint my xk8, but I'm doing a color change to atomic silver that you see on the lexus.

The tractor is just outrageous. Really fun.

How well will base coat clear coat hold up to heat on a engine I want to paint my ls motor metallic blue but am a little worried about heat flaking it off. I'd be going down the shops on it to get a carton of milk an stuff,
Show that damn thing off ☺
10k? What do you mean this definantly didnt cost 10 grand, is 10k a paint term?
@@ZHGAmingAllTheWay
10k is an exaggeration of how much it would cost.

Hey FireMan99, don't forget to grab your free manual! learnautobodyandpaint.com/free-autobody-manual
That is gorgeous wish I could do something like that with my 76 Nova..
Of course you can! Check out VIP here and get started with your own custom projects! www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/vip-offer/
Awesome paint job! I love the colors looks amazing! It's got me thinking about painting my mower now lol
Go for it Man!! You might wanna grab free trainings and more tips on auto body and paint at www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/
Wow looks great Boss Painter!! I haven't painted in 15 years and maybe I'm wrong, but I used to put the "flake" in the color coat and then clear it, isn't this a very long and expensive way to do a paint job, especially on a vehicle?
Truly awesome work! I love doing projects like this with my kids as well! They will remember those times forever.
Did you scuff up the paint before applying body filler and how do you clean the panel after wetsand without using wax remover water then let it dry for along time then tac cloths?
Thats the best color combo ive ever seen also wanna paint my car kinda like that!!!
Start cranking! :)
I shall after all the snow we have go away
i wanted to paint a 1994 honda accord ex 2.2l coupe just like that ,but i wanted to do it my self ,i love the way you paint the drive mower bro ,good work
Tedroy, Yes you can absolutely do it! check out VIP! www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/vip-offer/
can I use that spray gun on inside paint for my wall in a flat paint? or use it to throw polyurthane on wood floors? so satisfying watching you has got me wanting to paint my car too lol maybe once I get done with house paint I'll learn this from your channel. good video thats to lawnmower is so flyyyy
A house wall? They have different paint guns for that :) see my latest video spraying the CRV Honda. Thanks for the comment :)
I know that I have seen some of it in one of your vids - thanks again - mower looks great
Can I ask wha air compressor you are using for the paint spray gun?
Dude that paint job !!!! I’m in love with that color nice work man nice work...👍👍👍👍
Thanks David!
from how I learned at my technical school you can just scuff with scotch bright or 800 grit and then primer sealant and then base and clear but this came out just as good
Hi, how long does needles and nozzle tips last for you before requiring replacement due to wear out?
I would definately drive that lawnmower to work! The paint job is top notch in comparison to most...nicely done
