You can totally tear an egg open. Milinaro snake lab had one tear while separating last year. He managed to seal it and the hatchling made it (they named him leaky)
"You can totally tear an egg open" isn't the best advice to be posting since repairing isn't as easy as it may look in a video and it doesn't always work. By gently separating only the eggs that allow it, Emily and Ed are doing the right thing.
@Cara-39 I don't think OP was saying it in the way of "yeah, go for it", but more like "yes, that can definitely happen, it happened to someone else".
The babies are like “oooh you’re here to separate me from that annoying sibling!!” Emily: “I think it’s cute I’m gonna keep them like that” the babies: “ahhh gosh dang it!”
15:18 the tearing an egg open by accident happened to another breeder Molinaro Snake Lab he was in fact successful in fixing it and a healthy baby hatched from this egg it was very interesting to see this journey happen
I mean it could still be possible that it could* possibly hatch even though it's detached and a torn piece. But I also watched him all the time and it was just so fascinating of how he managed to fix it and it hatched successfully
A quick comment about spagnum moss - it is not sustainable and coco coir is a better option. More details below: More spagnum moss is being removed from where it grows (and it grows very slowly) than it is being harvested. A more sustainable (and usualy afforable) option is coco coir, which has those same water retention properties, but sustainably and by taking excess waste from the coconut business! And so many cute wiggly VBBs soon!!!
The Guy from Molinaro Snake Lab accidentally tore a good egg whilst trying to remove a bad egg, Her mixed some of the anti fungal powder with pva and parched the hole and it hatched out a beautiful healthy snake. Keep up the great work and content 😁👍
13:18 man I need to work for someone like ed and Emily, the idea of the spreadsheets and the paper trails they have to have for every snake (or gecko etc) makes me sooooo happy. I just love that organization. 😂
Look into studbook keeping! It's a branch of biology and they often work in zoos, wildlife centres, and even wild populations in certain cases. And they do exactly this + making sure genetic diversity is maintained.

The second batch will hatch on my birthday! That will be exciting :D and I’ll be honored that I’ll share my birthday with some lovely little snake babies
Snake Discovery is my comfort channel since when? like 2021 or something? It’s crazy how far you guys have come since then, and you deserve it all and more! Love you guys. 💕
They have really calmed down since being there! And so pretty! We've been having some snek discoveries here at our house...we've got a thriving population of Dekays Brown snakes...we found our first ones, very young, when we had chickens so we had to scoot them elsewhere so the chickens couldn't get to them...but now our chickens are gone they are all over the place! And...that first batch of yellow eggs...looked like a Dugtrio. lol
Vietnamese blue beauties’ clutch is one of my favorites! They’re so pretty, and once they hatched they just wiggle their tails like happy puppies! I can’t wait to see their cute lil faces pop out!
The colored eggs for a 2nd year makes sense I think, chickens lay eggs that are the same color and often almost the same shade for their whole life. A lot of people who get Easter Egger hens discover this and can use the color of egg to check on the health of their hens (shell thickness, how often they lay, funny shapes, etc.).
There was another reptile content creator Keary Molinaro who tried to remove a mouldy egg half way through incubation and accidentally ripped the good egg. He managed to kind of paper-mache it back together 😮 and the good egg survived! It was touch and go though and only had to get through the last part of incubation! So they can definitely rip!
I recall being a kid watching you guys take care of snakes from your home, unboxing new reptiles etc. And now that I am older and still love reptiles I have only one thing to say, thank you! You peaked my interest and sparked my curiosity. Now what was once scary became a passion. Thank you and congrats for all the things you guys achieved. You truly deserve the world!
Unfortunately, only the tv viewership counts towards ratings, which are the deciding factor on whether shows are extended another season or canceled and as a local show, Jason's viewership numbers are unlikely to be impacted much, if at all, by Snake Discovery's 3+ million subscribers. That said, the show has been on since 2015 and regular appearances actually may benefit Snake Discovery more than the show as people not on YT will learn about and visit the zoo.
I love how when you’re trying to get the eggs the mom is protecting them while also kinda being clueless of what’s going on. The mom’s like “Hey! Whatcha doin’? These are mine! Why are you tryna take them?!” Then when the snake’s head is in the brick thing she’s like, “I give up, you can have them. You want them more then me for sure.” Then just casually goes back in the brick thing. That’s so funny to me! 🤣 (The first clutch in the video by the way)
I do appreciate that after all this time, Emily will still explain what and why she's doing things, even if it's stuff they do all the time. Like with the perlite 😊
@Bing467 wow, which part of America? I’ve only ever been to New York, Washington DC and Boston. I’d like to visit again one day. Where would you recommend?
Okay, I've been sitting on this question for a TON of these videos, and I apologize in advance since it is a little dark. Have you ever had an accident when separating eggs where the adhesive caused one or more of the eggs to rupture?
I LOVE THE BLUE BEAUTIES!!!!!!! Also what can I do about a turtle that my dad accidentally hit with a lawnmower? It has a shell wound and I don’t know what to do about it.
