    I’d suggest putting the number of eggs laid on the box top - that would help with keeping track of how many should be in the box/how many went bad during incubation, etc.

      @@kitkatsnowfoxthe adult variable king snakes (the parents) where surrendered to snake discovery through their adoption program because their previous owner (their father as the original commenter put it) passed away. Instead of adopting them out they decided to keep them and breed them (partly because they arrived overweight and breeding helps them loose weight) it's all explained in their egg laying video. Hope this clears up the confusion x

    Man, these are the ferrets of the snake world! BOING! And so beautiful... very ferrety. They made me miss my old Variable King, Diefenbacher, who was a sort of soft tan with brilliant red black-edged bands. As an adult rather elderly snake he was pretty calm and had this thing about climbing on top of my head so he could get into my hair; friendliest snake I ever owned. May your fifteen go on to make their owners as happy as Dief made me.

So I’m thinking of getting a baby Hognose soon (my first ever snake) and I’ve been doing as much research as I possibly can but I’m still unsure about basically- everything. :’) So I was asking if you guys could do a how to video for a new baby hog? Being feeding time, enclosure sizes throughout growth spurts. You guys are my most trusted reptile channel and I would feel a lot more confident in myself if I got some advice from you guys. If this is a bad time or something that you don’t have time for that’s completely ok! As I said I trust you guys a lot because you guys are genuinely good people. Wish I could’ve gone to the recent expo but I was unable! As I said before if this is something you cannot do then I understand it’s just a small request! I would assume the colors depend on the parents and the ancestors kind of like how it works with dogs. If the breed can have multiple types, it's hard to pinpoint which type the puppies will end up. Some types are more dominant (eg. If you pair a white/ cream with a brown, most of the puppies will be colored rather than white.) But sometimes colors skip generations, two white dogs can get multi-colored puppies or even a black puppy. It all depends on what the dogs have behind them liniage-wise

  • @eddragereon654
    @eddragereon654 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That baby just YEET! You learned a few things from this clutch, twitchy, all will escape and can just YEET! Plus they arn't as variable with their parents, lol. It might be because the parents are both simular in color. If you breed two vary different colored ones you might get combinations you haven't seen hence the variable. So it might just be because it was a red to orange pairing.
    Magnificent video as always. . . I just can't get over how the baby just said "I'm outta here" Was kinda expecting others to do it too. Cause it could have been a response to danger. "I've cut the egg, something is trying to get in so I must leave"

  • @ShikiKiryu
    @ShikiKiryu ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I wonder what the reason is for so much variation? Is it like certain species of butterflies that can have so many variants all part of the same genus? I wonder how it works for this species even when mixing parents that have different patterns still producing random patterns genetically, versus other species where traits like albinism or reduced patterns are more determined odds or guaranteed to occur?

    • @ettinakitten5047
      @ettinakitten5047 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's probably polygenetic. There's a lot of traits like that, eg in humans skin color, height, IQ, etc are all polygenetic. Basically it means instead of a couple big-impact genes making most of the difference, the variation comes down to the interaction of hundreds of genes that each have only a small impact on the individual's phenotype. If the parents have a mixed bag of alleles for a polygenetic trait, you can get a lot of variation in the offspring.

    • @ShikiKiryu
      @ShikiKiryu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ettinakitten5047 That does make sense, but I wonder how diverse that is, as we see with the more orange-y pattern snakes here, is there a case for it not being 'as' random as Emily suggested or did they just unlucky in their variety? I have to wonder how many varieties are possible as there can only be so many combinations, right? Biology was not my strongest subject and its 3am writing this.
