Honestly some of the best advice out there! Especially being one step ahead of the trades man/woman. That kind of stuff can be the difference between you and the competition. Have that screwdriver ready, have that level and have that drill ready! You’ll be surprised how quickly you absorb what’s going on when you’re actively learning like that

It’s crazy how many apprentices come through that won’t take this advice aboard. Good to hear that there’s others that agree👍

I’ve found that having my notebook on my at all times is also near essential. I write down specific job notes, interesting things my tradie tells me, diagrams for the job, doodles about various electrical things during downtime, questions I want to ask, answers to questions I’ve asked.
Occasionally my notes and have proven invaluable for follow up work as well.
Probably for the most valuable aspect of keeping detailed notes is that I can refer to them when completing eProfiling 😛

That’s a great tip. Something I used to do a lot but haven’t kept around. It’s even helpful for simple things like when I ask the apprentice to go grab a few things. 50% of the time they forget what to get😂.
Good to hear that you’re doing that. It places you higher on the keep list for myself👌

All great advice, especially about anticipating the needs of the tradesman.. honestly the standard is so low for apprentices out there particularly in construction, if you do what is laid out in this video you’ll blow the other apprentices away. And then you’ll actually be regarded as a valuable employee, so the company will want to keep you on, and they’ll look after you, you’ll also build your reputation in the industry which helps down the line

Love the channel. A few other thoughts are
1-Coming back and asking what’s next is one thing. It’s even better when the come back and say. “I’ve just completed this ....and have noticed this ..... needs doing. Would you like me to do that or did you have something else in mind.”
2-if you get caught with nothing to do for a few minutes. Clean up the site or the work van/truck.
3- never forget to complete something that’s asked of you. I often gives guys a list of 4-5 tasks to complete. It’s on them to note them down and see them through to completion. This includes when being asked by another tradie to do something. I’d expect them to say “ yea I can help you with that. I have been asked to do ..... by the other tradie. Is it ok to finish this task first or can I complete it after I’ve helped you?

The tape is a great tip! Always have tape on me and my boss will always need it

American here, and I'm curious what is a "nikko." I haven't come across that term before.

Hey mate. Nikko was a brand of permanent marker. We call those pens nikkos in Australia.

Seems obvious, but the amount of apprentices I get that don’t care for the work and don’t won’t to be there is crazy.

      @@AddictedtoTools That is crazy.
If i break into this field, its all business from day 1.
Ill need to dump out all the junk out of my head, keep my ego in check, and absorb as much as possible.
      Thanks
