Like the video mate, very helpful. I recently finished my nvq level 3 site carpentry. But tbh, would rather do joinery/cabinet making. Would you suggest just calling around for those positions or start on site carpentry until I get experience and then move onto joinery etc. Lots of places want experience so hard to find a starting point.
Well done on passing mate ! Your more qualified then me ! I’m only level 2 👍🏻 Yes mate ringing around is always the best bet, I’ve had loads of people texting me and to be honest that puts me off straight away, seems lazy…. And phone call is always better 👍🏻 or if you see a carpenter in your travels stop and talk to them. Joinery is great that’s how I started you learn alot of skills that you don’t when doing site carpentry, the only problem is the money is better on site/in people homes. If you can get in a joinery shop for a few years to build up some experience then I would but don’t be disheartened if the money isn’t the best 👍🏻
@@LTWCarpentry yes please because I think can be really helpful for people like me need to start to work in carpentry and don't waste money for power tools don't need.
Each to their own really mate, some people prefer them some don’t, some prefer a wooden handle, I like the steel shaft…feels very robust but I have lots of different hammers that I use for different jobs, my framing hammer is a wooden shaft
I wouldn’t say at the very start but I would show keen, if you have a start with someone maybe ask them what they expect you to turn up with on the first day.
class vid mate, appreciate the details and the honesty!
Cheers buddy, hopefully it helps some people 👍🏻
My grandson has just started his carpentry level 1 in college bought him set of tools a year ago as he has always wanted to go into construction 😊
That’s brilliant mate, really hope he sticks with it ! If he has any question tell him to reach out
Tip, invest in a set of letter punches. Cheap ones are about £10. Looks way better when marking your tools than just scratching your name on
That’s a very good idea ! I tried using a dremel when I first started and made a right mess 😂
@@LTWCarpentry i engraved my hammer with a dremel cuz i had one lying about and realised all my tools were gonna look shit if i continued lol
@@iplayzthegames6968 I know exactly what you mean mate ! 😂😂
spray paint is the go

Does a apprentice carpenter need to buy tools at the very start
