    You know what would have been a better romance? If Padme had been the one to pursue Anakin. Instead of this guy who has ignored ten years of Jedi training to obsess over a pretty girl he met when he was kid, Padme could have fallen for her badass Jedi protector and made an impulsive move that Anakin rebuffs because of his vows, but which prompts him to think for the first time about how the Jedi Order have taken away his chance to find love.

      The part that had me laughing was Amidala packing, her irritated expression as Anakin whined, and Mark decoding what she was obviously thinking: "...shut the f*ck up, already." 🤣

      I always assumed the 'jar jar binks thing' was a deliberate decision by the writers. Something along the lines of 'Hey guys, everyone loathes jar jar so lets just go with it. In the next movie we'll have him do something really dumb. That way he becomes an utterly despised character even within the Star Wars universe'.

    I felt the exact same way about the title. When I first heard the title, I was like "Oh yeah, the Clone War. We get to see them fight the clones." Then I saw the movie and I was like, "Oh, the clones are fighting for the Republic? Against the droids? And they're only in it for like the last 20 minutes of the movie? Oookay, that felt a bit deceptive."
    Also, I cannot believe the puppet Yoda in The Phantom Menace. It looks awful. The puppet Yoda from Empire looked so much better and that was like 25 years before that! Unbelievable.

    • @DemonBoy3223
      @DemonBoy3223 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

  • @anthonyfins7519

    To be fair, the puppet Yoda from Phantom Menace looks horrendous, nothing like the one from Empire and Jedi, the CG looks much closer.

    • @Chrisjseattle1
      @Chrisjseattle1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They made a huge mistake in trying to make the puppet in Phantom look younger, but at least they tried and didn't use more CG. The CG is just too overpowering in all these prequels, I feel like I'm watching a cartoon half the time.

    • @Brabbel93
      @Brabbel93 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Joe A. Verage you damn know that he didn't say this at all. The thing is, that thew OT used it's cutting edge technology to tell the story. main focus was always ont he story. The pushed the boundaries of technology while doing that, but that wasn't the main intention.
      In the prequels the intention changed. I have no problem with them using CGI in Star Wars. In fact, there are SOME changes in the Star Wars Special Edition that are very welcome. Like replacing the lightsaber blades with CG ones or cleaning up the framing from the models. It's good that the X-Wings now look like they're floating in space and you don't see the weird flciker around them where they were edited with 70's tech.
      But in the Prequels they relied on CG for everything. Litereally everything. ANd it hurt the performances. YOu can really feel, that the actors don't know where they are. They are not in some epic space location, no, they are in a blue box.
      That wouldn't matter if the director knew how to work with that. Look at Avatar. It's all CG as well and although the sotry is even shitier than the prequels, at least the actors act like they are on that lush planet and not in a blue box. Why? BEcause James Cameron did a good job at telling the actors what's going on in that blue box right now.
      Some scenes are just sooo void of emotion because the performances, the fake CG-look and the flat camerawork don't do nothing at all. The only thing saving such scenes is John William's score. Seriously, take Anakin running into Palpatine's flat to witnesss the fight between Palpatine and WIndu. It's a totally stale shot of Christensen running a few steps and then strolling chilled out of frame. No performance, no cameramovement, but at least the music is dramatic so you don't notice it right away

    • @Brabbel93
      @Brabbel93 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ira ProV wello, I admit, I exaggerated a bit,. but there is still more blue and green screen than real sets. I know that because I DID watch the BTS footage.
      The sets that have been build mostly (!) covered the basics. There were like 2 pillars and a floor and that would be the Jedi temple...the rest CG! They are even bragging about how there is so little real things in their movie

    • @markusbisma5015
      @markusbisma5015 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I suggest you watch the prequels again and see how the CGI hold ups. The Phantom Menace and attack of the clones looks very outdated now

    • @Brabbel93
      @Brabbel93 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      But they can dare to have outdated effects since the characters hold up
      The visuals are everything holding together the prequels since they distract you from the 1st draft script
      Oh and regarding the enhancements: Again, I like the polishing of the rougher 70's effects and additions like the windows for cloud city....but Jabba? The beak of the Sarlacc? Those robots and creatures in Mos Eisley? That's sooooo bad CGI, it baffled me even when I was 10.

      Honestly, I don't think Boba Fett needed a backstory, not when the main plot of the movie was so God damn slow. I know he became a fan favourite, but his role in the original trilogy really isn't all that important. He could have been switched out with any other bounty hunter with any other kind of personality, which I really think was the very reason why he became so popular. Boba Fett could literally have been anyone. We didn't even know what he looked like under the helmet, and everyone just projected all of these badass fantasies on to him that could all equally have been true.

      malignor The crazy huge battle at the end was considered to be the worst part of the entire movie. Do you even realize how repetitive the background fighting scenes were? GL shot each scene separately at pasted in the scene. Therefore, lot's of fighting squeal were re-played multiple times in the background!

    Until you pointed it out, I always blamed Jar Jar for the downfall and collapse of the galaxy. But you’re right, It’s actually Padme’s fault for giving him representative power in the first place.. So in Revenge of the Sith, when she does her whole “so that’s how democracy ends” spiel, she has no one to blame but herself..

    The most positive thing I can say about "Attack of the Clones" is that Hayden Christensen went to my High School. =)
    The thing I found most jarring about Anakin was his conflicting behaviour. We're told that turning to the dark side of the Force means giving into raw emotions so Anakin being immature seems fitting enough. And yet as Darth Vader he was cooler than a cucumber hardly ever losing his temper. This is one of those weird inconsistencies which I think needed more fleshing out in the writing process.

    The droid doesn't spread open the window, it uses like a scanning light on the window; that green expending square is nothing more than like a green laser pointer.
    Once it does that green square thing, then it cuts a small hole into the glass window before releasing the bugs.
    Edit: Jango didn't target the Jedi because well; Zam was about to reveal Jango. Had he killed one Jedi, the other would still hear Zam say "Jango Fett", and once Jango hits one Jedi, I'm pretty sure the other will pick up on that before he can be hit himself. It's safer to kill Zam before she reveals Jango than it is to take a change in trying to kill both Jedi.
    Edit: It's not a pear. It's CGI fruit.

    • @Sheepy007
      @Sheepy007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow, you really bent backwards to defend stupid decisions. If a droid cut open the glass, so could have jango. And, the best bounty hunter in the universe would surely have been able to shoot 2 poison darts in short enough time to take out those 2 jedis

  • @subraxas
    @subraxas 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I mean the thing with Jango killing the assassin he had hired instead of the TWO Jedis seems to me quite logical. First of all, the fella apparently wanted to go unrecognized, so he therefore hired someone else to carry out the riskiest part of the order. This would not happen for a first time in history, and I'm now talkin' about real-world and cinematic assassinations alike. Secondly, I don't know if he, Jango, is anyhow able to shoot two venomous darts or spikes or whatever it was AT ONCE, and aimed at TWO SEPARATE targets, but even if he were, I myself would rather go with the bungler who botched up the order and got caught, because there simply was no certainty that he could take on TWO Jedis at once, and in addition, still stay in secrecy in a concern of his identity and the whole business of his. I mean those guys neither had known nor learnt who he was and they just very briefly saw a rip-off of Commando Cody swiftly flying away from there. And thirdly, even if he somehow managed to kill both Jedis, no-one knows what kind of shitstorm he would thus get himself and his employer into. Why? Because those were frakkin' Jedis!!! Now go and try to shoot dead two cops here in this real world; especially in the USA. Fuck, man, I'd sure as hell not want this. But finally, I must agree that the female assassin should have tried and pulled it off herself and not sent there the droid instead. :-) In addition, you forgot to bring up the last link and that was the worms. The droid, again, wouldn't have done it itself. :-)

    I love the prequels. I enjoyed them very much when they came out and they fit in quite well with the OT, which always held a special place in my heart. The prequels could've be done better, but that applies to 99% of all movies. They brought me much joy, love the music and the video game revival that those prequels started.
    Nothing that the despicable disney wars can even come close to.

    Jenga Fett (sigh, my apologies in advance to all the Star Wars fans if I spelled that wrong) really kind of got the raw end of that deal. Here's an idea, instead of paying an assassin to do YOUR JOB FOR YOU who uses a robot to do HIS JOB why didn't he just buy or build a robot (or since it's the future and robots are a common commodity surely the guy probably ALREADY owns one or even just outright steal and reprogram one) so the robot could do HIS JOB for him. I mean I'd rather steal a robot or buy a robot which I assume is much cheaper then wasting a huge chunk of his signage fee giving it away to an assassin who the guys who hired him to do would have been better off hiring her in the first place because you know, he's a bounty hunter AND SHE'S A SHAPE CHANGING ASSASSIN! Then again she fucked up badly so I guess maybe not the best candidate.

    Why doesn't Natalie Portman get more shit for her performance in Star Wars? Yes she's a better actress now and yes she did have to deal with crap dialogue, but some her acting in this movie is AWFUL. Half the time it looks like she's not even trying. She & and Hayden are almost equally bad in this film in my opinion.

    As it has been pointed out elsewhere, the only character in these prequels who actually undergoes a story arc is Palpatine. The prequels should have been his story, not Anakin's. Anakin should have been just a background character. We could have journeyed with Palpatine through his arc from Anakin's viewpoint.

    • @death-king1834
      @death-king1834 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is with Anakin to quote Plinkett: ''All we do is learn why he's angry'' we never got to know Anakin at all as a person other then he's pissed off all the time. We never get to really see his skills as a pilot other then ''spinning'', we never see any of his friendship with Obi-Wan other then talking about things we never get to see. Lucas just keeps shoving in obvious foreshadowing of his eventual fall as Darth Vader instead of giving him his own personality and character in which we can relate or care about.

    The main issue I had with this movie is when Boba Fett picks Jango's head up, and the head doesn't fall out. I will say I like the CGI Yoda in the Prequels more than the puppet in Phantom Menace. The puppet looked kind of creepy sometimes.
    Jango Fett is one of my 3 favorite Star Wars characters behind General Grievous as my favorite character, and Boba Fett as my 2nd favorite character.

    I watched the prequel trilogy first, which helped put up with the bad acting because who cared about acting when you were 5? It also made the original trilogy look SOOO much better. So I don't really hate the prequels as much as others do.

    I got 10 more questions about star wars episode 2: attack of the clones:
    1.Why is Samuel L. Jackson in episode 2 and 3
    2. DAMN IT, why is Jar Jar back????
    3. Why didn't George just write that Palpatine made the death star? Would of made sense!?!
    4. How do we get to 3 films before we get to see Pat may & Darth together?
    5. Why does Pat may have A hat made out of A Evoke at 6:27? That Bitch, I like those Evokes.
    6. Wouldn't the Jedi's technically be weaker with light savers against the republic with lazer guns?
    7. Mark would of liked the theme song from the original trilogy, right?
    8. Wh is Natalie Portman in this movie?
    9. How did obi 1 and Darth Know about A hit on Pat May?
    10. Is it me, or does this movie look horrible? ;)

    On the title - I always thought it was supposed to be misdirection - like we're supposed to think the clones will attack the Republic - but, surprise! They're on the side of the Republic! But also, FORESHADOWING! They WILL eventually cause the downfall of the Republic! A huge chunk of the prequel trilogy is devoted to foreshadowing the original movies, while trying to use misdirection to confuse us as to how they'll get there.

    I remember an old radio show in which an old woman was reading a comic book called either "The Attack of the Clones" or "the phantom menace." I heard it again on an old time radio show, but sadly I didn't make a note of its name. Maybe someone could find it. Lucas might have used that for the name of his movie.
    Also, characters with no depth are 2 dimensional, not 1 dimensional.

    I've typed and deleted several things because I try not to get too involved about opinions but a lot of the questions you ask in this video are easily answerable using a simple bit of logic. I'll tackle the Jar Jar one for example: You may not have liked the midiclorian explanation of the force but it takes star wars out of the mystical magical realm and seats it closer to reality, it also ties in with a central theme in TPM which is about the connections all living things have. One of the lessons learned in that movie was that the humans on Naboo aren't the only intelligent sentient life, so why wouldn't the Gunguns be able to nominate a Senator to serve alongside Amidala in the Senate? And who better than a decorated war hero (yup, Jar Jar). So Amidala isn't just randomly giving Jar Jar charge of her seat, she's deferring to the junior senator from Naboo. In addition, I think these 3 movies are about the rise and fall of Anakin but I wouldn't call him the protagonist. If there is one point of view that you can point to with the most regularity it's that of Obi-wan. Anakin is the antagonist, hence why he sounds like a whiny bitch. Just my point of view though.

      +cancer sucks Disagree, you can say those lines without being whiney. In fact you should go over every line of his and try and redo them in your head with an angry tone, but not whiney. The dialogue could be better yes, but it didn't have to be done so badly.

      @cs-zr9xy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gandoan He worked with the script the best he could. The whiny aspect, which i don't really notice, could've just been part of Anakin's character. The character can be kind of a brat.

    • @Gandoan
      @Gandoan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      cancer sucks Its true Lucas could have directed him to be like that. Which is extremely sad, Darth Vader, the most bad ass in the entire Star Wars universe reduced to a whiney brat. I wouldnt mind if he were angry, but not whiney. I wish the actor had the courage of Harrison Ford who actually changed his lines so Han Solo wouldnt have been a romantic sap.

    If you watch this movie on DVD it's chapter structure is perfect to just scene skip all of the Anakin and Padme romance. Watch it this way and the movie is a streamlined action movie that is kind of enjoyable. This isn't a cheap shot at any actor involved just a way to make the movie's pacing issues disappear.

  • @JediDanD
    @JediDanD 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anakin isn't the protagonist of the Prequels. The Hexalogy is about Anakin/Vader, but Anakin is like the Harry Osborn (superior Raimi series) of the trilogy, he's the best friend who wants more and gets corrupted by his desires.
    The protagonist of the Prequels is really none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi. I mean really Obi-Wan was in TPM since the beginning (I mean even in ANH it didn't take very long to get to Luke) and he had far more to do than Anakin. Really Anakin just blew up the Droid Control Ship and killed Dooku. Obi-Wan, defeated (not kill, Savage Opress helped him come back) Darth Maul, tracked down Jango Fett, discovered the Separatist on Geonosis and revealed everything (before being captured), killed General Grievous, barely survived Order 66 being the first Sidious executed the order on and defeated Darth Vader leaving him after he burned alive.
    Interesting when you think about how two things make something totally new;
    Story of Obi-Wan + Story of Luke = Story of Anakin/Vader
